Can you tell us who the Family Health Center of Mount Joy is affiliated with and why open a practice in Mount Joy? Family Health Center of Mount Joy is affiliated with Lancaster Regional Medical Center and Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center. Mount Joy is a growing community well situated between Harrisburg and Lancaster with a growing need for a new family medicine practice.

Can you tell us a little bit about your philosophy of medicine when it comes to treating your patients? As a board certified family physician, I consider myself to be a health advisor for my patients and also I’m happy to coordinate care with specialists as necessary. I’ve been in practice for over 25 years and I’m anxious to share my knowledge with all of my patients. I see patients of all ages from pediatrics to geriatrics. I see teenagers, a lot of them for college and sports physicals, I feel those visits are very important because in a way we have to educate them for the rest of their lives and if they have a good start in preventative medicine they will do well in life.

Family Health Center of Mount Joy is currently at a temporary location. Can you tell us when and where your permanent location will be? In the Lanco building of Mount Joy at 970 East Main Street, Mount Joy, and the new office will officially be open for patients beginning 2/29/2016. We are planning an Open House event for later in March or April to show off our new space to the public, we hope to have more details to come on this event soon.

What types of services will you offer at this location? We will be offering lab services, same day appointments, minor urgent care, and x-ray, as well as all aspects of family medicine. With our new office we are able to offer a one stop shop of our services for patients, having everything in one location like this makes everything that much more convenient for our patients.

For more information on Dr. Caron and the Family Health Center of Mount Joy please call the practice at (717) 653-0331 or visit the website at www.fhcmountjoy.com. You can also “Meet” Dr. Caron by viewing this brief introductory video (http://www.fhcmountjoy.com/Family-Health-Center-of-Mount-Joy/Physicians/2763.aspx)

Milanof-Schock Library Welcomes New StaffMelody Nissley began 2016 at the Milanof-Schock Library

as the new Youth Librarian. Several years ago, she started her public service career as a Youth Librarian at the Lancaster Public Library. She has a teaching degree and certification in elementary education and a master’s degree in Library Science and certification as a Library Media Specialist working in urban school districts. Nissley’s hope is to bring a variety of innovative programming that encompasses all members of the family, with a focus on preschoolers and their kindergarten readiness, as well as expanding programming for teens. “Equally important to this position,” she says, “is to embrace our increasingly diverse community with thoughtful, intentional programming that meets the needs of the larger community.

On Monday, February 1, the Milanof-Schock Library welcomed Barbara Basile as its new Executive Director. Basile was the Director of the Manheim Community Library for the last 10 years, and prior to her time there, she held positions at several nonprofits, two of which were libraries – Carthage Free Library in New York and the Hummelstown Branch in Dauphin County. from Norma Millard, RN, Certified Health CoachHealthy Eating: Worth it or Not?Choices make ALL the difference – it’s up to YOU

Eating healthy is a challenge because every expert seems to have their own take on what is good and what is bad, and every perspective seems to contradict all of the rest. You don’t need to be told that there is a lot of static in the health & wellness industry, but you do need someone to help you cut through the noise with practical, reality-based advice.

We eat for two reasons: fuel and gratification. The first is pretty straightforward. Our bodies need energy, so we consume it in the form of food to power everything we do. If we don’t eat, we die. In a modern society, however, fuel is rarely hard to come by. Our problem is instead that we have too much fuel, so we have started to form habits where we eat not because we are hungry but because we desire gratification. We might eat food to celebrate a special occasion, and we might eat food because we are feeling badly about ourselves.

In creating Habits of Health, you don’t have to stop enjoying food. However, I challenge you to make nutritional decisions that are grounded in the context of your bigger goals. While learning the basics of what to eat and when to eat it, one of your biggest projects will be to undo the habits that cue you to eat when you aren’t really hungry or that cue you to eat far more than you really should.

When you can break the Habits of Disease and follow them up with Habits of Health, you create the potential for dramatic, and very positive, changes in your health.

Proclamation Presbyterian Church in America would like to thank Mount Joy Church of God for their partnership and

help in getting this new church started. Proclamation has been meeting on Sunday evenings at Mount Joy Church of

God for the past two years as they strive to serve the people of Mount Joy and the surrounding communities. During this time the people of Proclamation were pray-ing and looking for a place to meet on Sunday morn-ings and have now entered into an agreement to share worship facilities with Florin Church of the Brethren, 815

Bruce Ave. Florin has generously agreed to change their worship time to 9 am to accommodate an 11 am worship service for Proclamation. Each church will also have Sunday school (Proclamation at 9:30 am and Florin at 10:30 am). Each denomination will maintain their own

identity while sharing the same building.Evelyn Dehmey, Leadership Team

Chair for Florin, noted that this is a wonderful opportunity for both congre-gations to proclaim the name of Jesus from atop Florin Hill. Pastor Troy DeBruin from Proclamation is grateful for this opportunity to work together to serve the surrounding communities and display the love of Christ and the unity of his church. It simply makes good sense – Florin has ample space and having a second denomination helps make more efficient use of the building.

Proclamation gathered for its first public worship service two years ago on Easter Sunday, and so it is fitting that this new partnership will begin on Easter Sunday, March 27. Why not plan now to “help them move” into their new location? They would be glad to have you join them!

Greetings from Mount Joy Area Historical Society

Our monthly Chamber luncheons are always held the second Wednesday of each month. They are usually held at The Gathering Place, 6 Pine Street. The cost is $10 which pays for your buffet lunch. Chamber luncheons are a Chamber member benefit and a great way to network your business.

We like our monthly luncheons to be helpful and informative for our Chamber members, and we try to pick speakers that can help you with your business. We also like to give our nonprofit Chamber members a chance to speak to us about their organization. We have many of them in town and unless you are involved with one or more of them, you probably have no idea what they are doing for our community.

We are looking for speakers or topics that you would like to hear about at our monthly Chamber luncheons. If your business has something to share with our membership that would be helpful to them or if you would like to hear about a specific topic, please contact the Chamber office at 653-0773 or email [email protected] because we would like to hear your suggestions! These luncheons are for you!

The distance is usually about 3500 miles plus the miles to South Bend and back, all in about 8-9 days. Watch for an event map and details on the tracks we will visit.

As part of the event Jim will be raising money for the Pa. Breast Cancer Coalition. For each donation of $10 or more you can put a name on the car and ride along with us. We can also do a name on the sticker of someone who has dealt with cancer “In Honor of”, or “In Memory of”. To make a donation see Jim at Jim Roberts West Main Auto, 14 W. Main Street, Mount Joy. Make checks payable to Pa. Breast Cancer Coali-tion or PBCC. You can also visit http://www.pabreastcancer.org/ and donate by using your credit card. Just click on “Do-nate” and follow the instructions. Be sure to fill in One Lap of America when asked for title of event.

“I would like to say Thank You to Mount Joy Chamber of Commerce members who have been very gener-ous over the years and were a big help in us meeting our goal of $3,000 last year.” Over the last few years Jim and Shane have raised more than $12,000 for this important cause. Their goal for this year will again be

$3,000 and they hope to count on your support. Check out their blog at onelapadventure.blogspot.com,

where you can follow along or go to Jim’s facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Jims-One-Lap-Adventure-233980713473708/?fref=ts

Each year the One Lap route goes off in a different direc-tion to another part of the country. This year Jim and Shane will travel nearly 5,000 miles in about eight days, working their way as far west as Colorado.

Jim is also looking for a few volunteers who are sympathet-ic to the breast cancer cause and would like to be a “Captain” to help collect funds from friends, neighbors, co-workers etc. Jim will provide you with a kit including donation sheets and other helpful items. Please email him at [email protected] or call 527-0110.

Jim and Shane would like to say, Thank you for considering a donation toward their effort to benefit the Pa. Breast Cancer Coalition.

The 2016 summer season is quickly approaching and the Mount Joy Lions Club Swimming Pool has been planning for the upcoming season, including staffing, repairs and mainte-nance and capital projects.

The community will see as the 2016 season begins that some significant capital improvements will have been made at the pool. Although not as obvious as some other improve-ments, the main pool building now has a new roof replacing a nearly 30 year old one. More apparent will be the replace-ment of our main driveway and new benches throughout the pool area. The floor(s) in the pavilions will also have been replaced. The Lions Club and the Pool Operating Authority will have invested over $50,000.00 in these upgrades this year.

The Pool will open for the season on a limited basis on Saturday, May 28, 2016, following the Memorial Day Pa-rade. Anticipated opening time will be 3:00 pm. Following the Memorial Day weekend opening, the pool will be open on weekends until school is closed for the summer at which time the regular operating schedule will begin. A day-by-day schedule for this period will be posted at the pool.

Membership information is available at [email protected] or by calling Isaac Greene at 471-0107.

The Pool will conduct an OPEN HOUSE on Sunday, May 29, 2016 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm, which will be open to all members of the community. Membership materials will be made available to all non-members. Also, the pool is offer-ing current members a discount for referring new members to the pool. A $50.00 discount on seasonal dues will be offered to current members who refer someone who joins the pool for the 2016 season. The Pool will again offer swim-ming lessons for pool members and residents of the Mount Joy area. The program will follow established American Red Cross standards. The program will be conducted by a coordinator and group of instructors who will be fully oriented prior to the start of the program. A description of the program and a schedule of classes will be available when the pool opens in May. Copies of the program description and schedule may be picked up at the pool during regular operating hours after opening weekend. We will not be ac-cepting any registrations by phone. All registrations must be processed at the pool.

The Pool is also looking for an independent operator for our Snack Bar. The pool does have a full kitchen/food preparation facility and is seeking someone to operate the snack bar independently on a lease basis. Interested par-ties, please contact Mike Guinivan at [email protected] for additional information.

$As an investor, you may be gaining familiarity with

the term “market correction.” But what does it mean? And, more importantly, what does it mean to you?

A correction occurs when a key index, such as the S&P 500, declines at least 10% from its previous high. A correction, by definition, is short-term in nature and has historically happened fairly regularly – about once a year. However, over the past several years, we’ve experienced fewer corrections, so when we have one now, it seems particularly jarring to investors.

How should you respond to a market correction? The answer may depend, to some extent, on your stage of life.

• If you’re still working … If you are in the early or middle parts of your working life, you might not have to concern yourself much about a market correction because you have decades to overcome a short-term downturn. Instead of selling stocks, and stock-based investments, to supposedly “cut your losses,” you may find that now is a good time to buy more shares of quality companies, when their price is down.

Also, you may want to use the opportunity of a correction to become aware of the need to periodically review and rebalance your portfolio. Stocks, and investments containing stocks, often perform well before a correction. If their price has risen greatly, they may account for a greater percentage of the total value of your portfolio – so much so, in fact, that you might become “overweighted” in stocks, relative to your goals, risk tolerance and time horizon. That’s why it’s important for you to proactively rebalance your portfolio – or, during a correction, the market may do it for you. To cite one aspect of rebalancing, if your portfolio ever does become too “stock-heavy,” you may need to add some bonds or other fixed-rate vehicles. Not only can these investments help keep your portfolio in balance, but they also may hold up better during a correction.

• If you’re retired … After you retire, you may need to take money from your investment accounts – that is, sell some investments – to help pay for your cost of

living. Ideally, however, you don’t want to sell stocks, or stock-based vehicles, during a correction – because when you do, you may be “selling low.” (Remember the most common rule of investing: Buy low and sell high. It’s not always easy to follow, but it’s still pretty good advice.)

So, to avoid being forced into selling, you need to be prepared. During your retirement years, try to keep at least a year’s worth of cash instruments on hand as well as short-term fixed income investments. By having this money to draw on, you may be able to leave your stocks alone and give them a chance to recover, post-correction.

And it’s important to maintain a reasonable percentage of stocks, and stock-based vehicles, in your portfolio, even during retirement – because these investments may provide the growth necessary to help keep you ahead of inflation. Consequently, as a retiree, you should have a balance of stocks and stock-based vehicles, along with fixed-income vehicles, such as bonds, certificates of deposit, government securities and so on.

Being prepared can help you get through a correction – no matter where you are on life’s journey.
