Connected Innovation in a Connected World

Everything will be connected in the future. The Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the booming industries of today. But no incumbent has delivered an end-to-end solution for IoT yet. Not even close. Additionally young and agile startups push into the market with disruptive innovative products. Therefore the challenge of today is not only to get a stake out of the IoT market, but also foster innovation and include startups. Today we need connected innovation in a connected world.

Our answer – Challenge Up!

Having understood the innovation challenge and a way to face it, three global tech players – Intel, Cisco and Deutsche Telekom – teamed up to address the challenges of IoT and be a true pioneer of Open Innovation 2.0 and connecting innovation. That joint partnership is Challenge Up! IoT Accelerator targeting IoT startups. The aim of the Challenge Up! Is to help innovative IoT startups go-to-market faster through joint projects, mentoring, high-value networking and corporate assets. It is an example of true pioneer Open Innovation 2.0 with bringing together startups, corporations and customers in a new platform to perform cooperation and build use cases overarching corporate and customer limits.

Challenge Up is about co-innovation, co-development and co-sales!

Meet the 12 IoT Rock Stars at UnBound Digital!

Challenge Up! received applications from over 40 EMEA countries, more than 1500 entrepreneurs registered on the platform but only 12 startups were selected for the Incubation. The 12 IoT Rock Stars will present the outcomes of the 4-month Incubation at UnBound Digital in London! Meet them at UnBound Digital in the Startup Expo in the Great Hall 1 and do not miss major Challenge Up! panels during the conference:

COMFY

Diabetes is the fastest-growing cause of inpatient and surgical care costs in the world. Worldwide spending on diabetic care already exceeds $400 billion annually, with 43% of these costs coming from hospital care in Europe and the United States.

Over 40% of patients admitted to hospital are now at diabetic risk.

Despite this, techniques for controlling glucose levels in hospitalized patients have remained unchanged for nearly three decades, and are too imprecise, labor-intensive, and coarsely implemented to address the growing need.

Admetsys has created the first artificial pancreas for hospital care that improves healthcare at lower costs through high-tech automation of sensing, modeling and treatment. Proper control of blood glucose levels and avoidance of harmful low levels saves lives, decreases complications, and speeds recovery.

CHALLENGE UP! JOURNEY

Admetsys has partnered with Intel and Cisco to power our system with next-generation Intel chipsets and certify the system for Cisco’s advanced networking capabilities. Our collaboration allows for the future of connected healthcare to become a reality. The Admetsys device powered by Intel chipsets and Cisco networking allows for nurses and physicians to care for and manage a patient wherever they are in the hospital or across the world.

ComfyLight is a simple and elegant home security solution, which is build in a smart, sensor-enriched light bulb and controlled by a smart phone application. When you are away, ComfyLight protects your home by automatic presence simulation: It is the first solution which simulates your presence in a 100% realistic way based on your movement behaviour and without the need to program a time switch. Your home seems always occupied, would-be intruders are deterred and you feel safe. Moreover, ComfyLight reacts to intrusion, as it immediately sends an alert to your phone if it detects unexpected presence, empowering you to take instant action. When you are at home, ComfyLight makes your life more comfortable by providing automatic lighting in soft white shades.ComfyLight is extremely easy to install like any normal light bulb and it fits in every household. Susanne Porsche, mentor of ComfyLight, states that “Security has never been that easy.”The results of ComfyLight so far: ComfyLight is one of Switzerlands most rewarded startups with more then 200 KCHF in prize money, the solution got great feedback from more then 50 participants in a first field test, and ComfyLight is honored by a CES Smart Home Award 2016. Next steps: A Kickstarter campaign will be realized in January 2016. Already today, interested users can register at comfylight.com to get notified in time. The market launched is planned for February 2016.ComfyLight - the elegant way to protect your home.

CHALLENGE UP! JOURNEY Four months of intensive collaboration have led to strong results: There are clear synergies between ComfyLight and Intel, Cisco, and Deutsche Telekom. Intel and ComfyLight share their passion for IoT hardware. The combination of Intels’ know-how in signal treatment, and Intels’ Internet of Things (IoT) chipsets fit perfectly with ComfyLight. We are more than happy to announce the joint development of ComfyLight V2 with Intel based on the Curie chipset. Planned Launch: Q4 2016. Ciscos’ strength, both in IoT infrastructure and B2B sales, have led to concrete results for ComfyLight. Based on Mozaiq, a European IoT platform, ComfyLight evaluates the integration with further Smart Home devices. Additionally, Ciscos’ sales know-how and network brought ComfyLight into contact with strong partners like Conrad Electronic. Deutsche Telekom (DT) and ComfyLight are pushing DTs Smart Home solution to the next level. As a foundation, ComfyLight and QIVICON will provide a joint integration from Q2 2016. Thanks to this integration, Deutsche Telekom Smart Home customers will probably be able to profit from ComfyLights’ security functions as of Q2 2016. Hardware, infrastructure, customer access: three pillars of ComfyLights’ ChallengeUp! results; three touch points with Intel, Cisco, and Deutsche Telekom; three chapters of a true success story.
