In the present context of GLOBALISATION and privatization, any developing technology needs a right blend of universal components and local components. In this context, it is worth recalling the statements made by late Mr. J R D Tata, the Doyen of Indian Aviation, in the wake of his re-enacting his historic flight on October 15, 1982, exactly after a span of 50 years. When he was asked what prompted him to do what he did, he replied : ―There is a feeling of disenchantment and lack of enthusiasm among the young people today. They have lost morale and belief. This should go. Then only there will be a feeling that they can do things themselves and do it better than others. I just wanted to inspire a little hope and enthusiasm in the Indian youth‖. FROM THE CHAIRMAN’S DESK……

Dear Friends,

I deem it a very great

pleasure to share the following with

esteemed AVIATION fraternity.

History is a mirror to the past and a

guide to the future. The dreams of

yesterday are the challenges of to-

day and they shall be the realities

of tomorrow.

The history of AVIATION

abounds in dreams and challenges.

It is very heartening to note

that tremendous developments are

presently taking place in our

country in the field of AVIATION.

In the present context of GLOBALISATION and

privatization, any developing technology needs a

right blend of universal components and local

components. Hence, the current developments

envisaged in Indian AVIATION should clearly

spell out the necessary local components, to be

judiciously mixed with the universal components,

so as to meet the requirements of our developmen-

tal goals in AVIATION.

In the above important endeavour, enhance-

ment of proper HRD is a paramount necessity. It

is imperative that the youth graduating in aviation

in India today should develop proper

professionalism. They should foster consciously

the attitude that they are neither meant for air-

conditioned suites nor for export to advanced

countries. Such an attitude is missing somewhere

in our socio – political system !

In this context, it is worth recalling the

statements made by late Mr. J R D Tata, the Doyen

of Indian Aviation, in the wake of his re-enacting his

historic flight on October 15, 1982, exactly after a

span of 50 years. When he was asked what prompted

him to do what he did, he replied : ―There is a feeling

of disenchantment and lack of enthusiasm among the

young people today. They have lost morale and belief.

This should go. Then only there will be a feeling that

they can do things themselves and do it better than

others. I just wanted to inspire a little hope and

enthusiasm in the Indian youth‖. What great words

from a great son of India !

It is our fervent wish that the students of

AVIATION in India may join the Aeronautical

Society of India in a larger measure and use the

Society as a good forum to develop their latent talents

in AVIATION. The Society, in turn, should revisit its

aims and objectives in an appropriate fashion to

inspire hope and enthusiasm in our youth who are

drawn into the field of alluring aviation !

We are very happy to note that the

Aeronautical Society of India has come forward to

revise the Curricula and Syllabi of the Associate

Membership Examination of the Society. It is

fervently hoped that the matter will be viewed in a

holistic manner so as to enhance the marketability of

the A.M.Ae.S.I Graduates.

I send my Greetings and Best Wishes to all

the Members of the Society !

OF THE AERONAUTICAL SOCIETY OF INDIA.

Greetings from Ae.S.I (Chennai Branch)

This is the third issue of AeSI, Chennai Branch

News Letter. I respectfully thank our Chairman

Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese for giving me an opportunity

to be the editor of this News Letter. I am indeed proud to

acknowledge the present constitution of Ae.S.I Chennai

Branch and work along with them to fulfill its vision

2016 and goals. Gathering news for Aero Society can be

challenging and of course enhancing the growth of aero-

space activities. My main job is to encourage contributors, assist in anyway I

can, finally select from the available articles and layout the publication. I

acknowledge the fact that April, May and June being peak period, lesser pro-

grams have been conducted and hence this issue focuses more on National and

International Aerospace activities.

For our next News Letter, I expect a overwhelming response from the

readers to highlight their activities with nice photographs and articles.

Happy Reading

GOI has cleared National Civil Aviation Policy

(NCAP) to enable flying to be cheaper. Norms have been

eased for start-up airlines. NCAP will enable increased air

connectivity. By doing this, GOI feels that the decade-

long controversial ―5/20 Norm‖ has been scrapped. The

regime of ―bilateral rights‖ and ―code share agreements‖

are expected to be liberalized.

Solar plane has gone through the globe- circling voyage which began more than a year ago

in the United Arab Emirates. The Swiss-made SOLAR IMPULSE landed at JFK international air-

port after a 4 hour 41 minute flight of about 265 miles from Pennsylvania. Its trip across the U.S

mainland began on 24 April 2016 when airplane landed in San Francisco from Hawaii. The next

leg of the journey is to cross the Atlantic Ocean for Europe or South Africa. It is a feat in AVIATION

to advance Environmentally Compatible Technology.
