Chail Palace is an opulent and grandestate that is spread over 75 acres. This iswhere Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patialamoved to when he was expelled fromShimla. With a direct view of Shimla and at ahigher elevation than it, this was the perfectspot for the Maharaja's new palace.
The Palace with its spectacular mainbuilding, quaint log cottages, elegant lawns,thick deodar forests, quiet walks, badmintonand tennis courts is an ideal place to spenda quiet and relaxed holiday. There areseveral attractions close by and one can alsotry trekking and angling.
2 Cricket Ground
Chail Cantonment, Himachal Pradesh
This famedCricket Ground was laid down by theMaharaja of Patiala. Standing at an altitudeof about 2,444 m, this is the world's highestcricket ground. The ground is part of thecantonment area and is out of bounds forcivilians. You can, however, walk up to it andhave a look around. It is also used as a poloand football ground. The ground issurrounded by dense deodar forests and isused as a playground for students of theChail Military School. A unique feature ofthis ground is a historic tree which theMilitary School has converted into abeautiful tree house!
3 Chail Wildlife Sanctuary
Chail, Himachal Pradesh, India
Chail Wildlife Sanctuary is a small wildlifesanctuary in Chail. It is located between theKrishna River and Giriganga, a stretch thatencompasses some 200 villages. You canspot langurs, leopards, brown bears, hogs,ghorals, sambars and wild pheasants(including the endangered khaleej) in thissanctuary. According to forest officials, if upat dawn, one can spot wildlife on the way toKali ka Tibba and Gauda, besides the stretchbetween Chail Palace andJanerghat. The best time to visit ChailWildlife Sanctuary is from March to October.Accessibility to this Wildlife Sanctuary is
possible via the Kalka-Shimla route.ChailWildlife Sanctuary stretches from theKrishna River to Giriganga and includessome 200 villages. Gurudwara Sahib was constructed in 1907by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala. It isnow under the supervision of the HimachalPradesh Government. Since it is located in aremote place, apart from a few locals, veryfew people come to visit the gurudwara. Thelush green surroundings and tranquility ofthe gurudwara make it a special place. Themost striking feature of this gurudwara is
that it is not built in the typical style of a Sikhplace of worship. It is designed more like acathedral with spires and a courtyard. Thegurudwara houses a dormitory and smallguest rooms that accommodate visitors freeof cost.
5 Kali ka Tibba

Kali ka Tibba is one of the major touristattractions in Chail. There is a peaceful Kalitemple atop the hills that offersbreathtaking sights of the entire hill station.Fabulous views of the Choor Chandi Peakand Shivalik Range can be enjoyed from thispoint. Since the temple is located atop a hill,the road leading to the top is narrow andwinding. But going to all this trouble isworthwhile once you get to the top!
