Introduction

Use this conversion guide to find the right CM pump type when a CH, CHN or CHI pump is to be replaced.

Recommended selection of pump material versionThree material versions of the CM pump are available, see the table below:

The table below contains a recommendation of which CM pump type that can replace an existing CH, CHN or CHI pump.

Selection of shaft sealThe table below contains the available shaft seal types for CH- and CM-pump types. In the table it is possible to see a recommended selection of shaft seal when replacing an existing CH, CHN or CHI pump with a CM-A, CM-I or CM-G pump.

Technical dataPlease refer to WebCAPS or the CM, CME data booklet for motor data, dimensions, etc. of CM and CME pumps.

Adapter base plateSince the CM pumps have been designed with compactness in focus, they require significantly less space than the CH(N) and CHI(E) pumps. Furthermore, the distance between suction and discharge ports has been changed. Therefore, it may be necessary to use an adapter base plate (fig. 1) when an existing CH(N) or CHI(E) pump is to be replaced by a CM pump.

Fig. 1 Adapter base plate

Features• Adjusts the position of the suction port of the

CM pump to the same horizontal level as that of the suction port of the CH(N) or CHI(E) pump to be replaced.

• Oblong foundation bolt holes with the same dimensions as those of the CH(N) or CHI(E).

• Available as a kit for retrofitting, but can also be supplied mounted on the CM pump.

• Three different sizes are available, depending on the CM pump size and the CH(N) or CHI(E) pump to be replaced.

Kits for retrofitting

* Suits only CM(E) with motor frame size 71/80.

Note: CM pumps with pre-fitted adapter base plate are available. Please contact Grundfos.

Introduction

How to use the conversion guideExample 1 Existing pump: CH 4-30 with a rated flow of 4 m3/h.

Select the right CM 5-A pump as follows:

See fig. 1.

1. Find and mark the duty point of the CH 4-30 pump, i.e. point A.

2. Find the CM 5-A pump(s) matching the duty point of the CH 4-30 pump.

Result• If a lower head is acceptable, choose a CM 5-2-A

pump, i.e. duty point B.• If a higher head is acceptable, choose a CM 5-3-A

pump, i.e. duty point C.

Fig. 2 CM 5-A compared to CH 4

Example 2 Existing pump: CH 4-50 with a rated flow of 2.5 m3/h.

Select the right CM 3-A or CM 5-A pump as follows:

See figs 1 and 2.

1. Find and mark the duty point of the CH 4-50 pump, i.e. duty point D in fig. 2 and E in fig. 1.

2. Find the CM 3-A or/and CM 5-A pump(s) matching the duty point of the CH 4-50 pump.

Result• A CM 3-5-A pump is an almost exact match, i.e.

duty point F.• If a lower head is acceptable, choose a CM 5-4-A

pump, i.e. duty point G.

How to read the curve charts

Fig. 4 How to read the curve charts

Guidelines to performance curvesThe guidelines below apply to the curves shown on the following pages: • Tolerances to ISO 9906, Annex A.• The motors used for measurements of the CM pumps

are the specifically designed motors for CM pumps. The motors are based on Grundfos standard motors (MG).

• Measurements have been made with airless water at a temperature of +20 °C.

• The curves apply to the following kinematic viscosity: υ = 1 mm2/s (1 cSt).

• The QH for CM pump curves apply to rated motor speeds of approximately 2900 min-1 (50 Hz) and approximately 3400 min-1 (60 Hz). All CM curves are based on current motor speeds.Note: Please refer to WebCAPS for more precise curves. In WebCAPS, it is also possible to adjust the curves depending on the density and viscosity.

• When the motor is running at the lowest or highest rated voltage, the pump performance will usually vary by ± 0.5 - 1.0 m at a given duty point.

• All curves are based on pumps fitted with a three-phase motor.

• The conversion between head H (m) and pressure p (kPa) applies to a water density of ρ = 1000 kg/m3.

• Due to the risk of overheating, the CM pumps should not be used at a flow below the minimum flow rate. The curve in fig. 5 shows the minimum flow rate as a percentage of the rated flow rate in relation to the liquid temperature.
