Debugging Effort on Supplier side
Reducing Effort on TSO side
Gaining Clarity about CGMES conformity
Increase overall quality of the exchanged data by
Adopting CGMES as standards (TSO’s)
Having TSO’s able to rely on applications/systems adopting
CGMES.

CGMES conformity assessment
• CGMES Conformity Assessment Framework approved – April 2014; documentationpublished on 10 June 2014.
Preparation stage
• Suppliers implement an approved version of the standard (CGMES)
• TSOs request this implementation as it is needed for the business processes
First party assessment
• Suppliers test their applications to be able to issue a Declaration of conformity to answer users (TSOs & ENTSO-E) requirements
• Issue a Declaration of Conformity and submit to ENTSO-E – to be available on the web site
Second party assessment
• ENTSO-E assesses the conformity
• ENTSO-E issues an Attestation of Conformity only if the assessment is positive
Detailed information is available here Different conformity levels – per functionality to provide the best possible service. There is
no requirement one application to support the full scope of the CGMES. Objective to have better tested Applications available for TSOs’ and ENTSO-E’s business
processes.

Test Configurations Specifications developed in 2013; tender process in 2014 => vendors selected to develop
and review
List of Test Configuration and status
MicroGrid – about 16 nodes
MiniGrid – according to IEC60909 – mainly for short circuit;
RealGrid – big model about 7000 nodes;
SmallGrid – about 120 nodes;
BigGrid – not yet ready
Dynamics – small models to test parts of the dynamics package. Some models available, but not now the priority on conformity is put for the rest of the CGMES profiles. In addition, there is parallel work stream to fine tune the dynamics profile.

Conformity assessment•3 important components:
Test Use Cases (TUC)
Test Steps (TS)
Conformity Categories
•It is not easy:
•The challenge to have something which is valid for all possible business processes; for all possible Applications
•The challenge to have something which is easy and attractive but at the same time credible.
•What are the right test use cases for the full scope of CGMES?; what are the right test use cases for a given category?....
-
Test Use Cases (TUC)
The test use cases do not necessarily reflect how the business processes are using data exchange functionalities defined in the CGMES
For each TUC a sequence of actions to be executed in order to cover a TUC is defined
There are 46 TUC defined as of now
-
Test Steps (TS)
There are 12 Test steps defined as of now
Each Test step has a sequence of actions that should be performed on a Test Configuration.
Pass/Fail score is given according to the assessment criteria defined in the TS definitions
-
Conformity Categories
-
Standard Category
The “Standard” category is the highest category which measures the overall support of CGMES by an Application. The category has three grades:
Gold (Full support) – shall be granted to an Application that passes all TUC defined for CGMES conformity assessment;
Silver (Support) – shall be granted to an Application that passes all TUC marked as “Silver” and “Bronze” across all functions defined for CGMES conformity assessment;
Bronze (Limited support) – shall be granted to an Application that passes all mandatory (marked with “Bronze”) TUC defined for at least one profile or function.
-
Profile Category
The “Profile” category indicates which CGMES profiles are supported by an Application. The category has three grades:
Gold (Full support) – shall be granted to an Application that passes all TUC defined for the following CGMES function categories: Import and Export. The Application supports this profile in combination with other CGMES profiles supported by the Application;
Silver (Support) – shall be granted to an Application that passes all TUC defined for the following CGMES function categories: Import and Export;
Bronze (Limited support) – shall be granted to an Application that passes all TUC defined for the following CGMES function categories: Import or Export.
-
Function Category
The “Function” category indicates the level of functional support of CGMES by an Application. The category has three grades:
Gold (Full support) – shall be granted to an Application that passes all TUC defined for a CGMES function for the profiles supported by the Application;
Silver (Support) – shall be granted to an Application that passes all TUC marked as “Silver” and “Bronze” for a CGMES function for the profiles supported by the Application;
Bronze (Limited support) – shall be granted to an Application that passes all TUC marked as “Bronze” for a CGMES function for the profiles supported by the Application.
