When Babbitt metal lined hydrodynamic bearings came into existence in the 1800s, designers knew that the limiting factor of their design was due to materials. The metals and lubricants of the day limited the safe operation of the bearings to around 200 F. The designs and parameters of the 1800s have languished without innovation, despite huge leaps made in engineering technology.

Old Concept Re-Invent Manufacture

HTB corporation has taken the successful aspects of the traditional sleeve oil bearing, such as ring oil lubrication and self-aligning capability, and eliminated its weakness through modern materials, lubricants and engineering analysis.

By eliminating the use of Babbitt metals, conventional lubricants, and low strength materials, the CG-1 hydrodynamic bearing can operate continuously at temperatures of 400 ⁰F. This eliminates the need for external cooling, improves overall strength, and enhances mechanical precision.

The CG-1bearing saves thousands of dollars during construction and over its lifetime by safely running hotter. This eliminates the need for external cooling lines, radiators, or chillers and gives the OEM the ability to reduce shaft diameters. The bearing has fewer parts, and is mechanically tougher, making installation and service requirements less intensive.

Our liner is20x more resistant than standard Babbitt metal to liner wipe failure based on taber abrasion tests. It obtains a much higher surface finish than Babbitt, reducing the risk of surface asperity contact in the event of oil supply interruption. Our liner surface is durable, strong and will not damage the shaft.

The capacity chart shown represents typical application ranges. The bearing is capable of operating under a broad array of challenging parameters when proper allowance is made during the specification phase.

All CG-1 bearings offer a standard Dodge RTL series dimensions on shaft centerline, bore length, diameter, and expansion bearing width and diameter. The bearings feature a fully split design, multiple ports pre-tapped for thermal probes, oil system adapters, and sensors. Our bearings do not require any form of external supplies, such as electricity or water supply. They come standard with high temperature contact seals and oil ring lubrication.

By eliminating the external water supply for a single typical Babbitt 3-7/16” bearing flowing water at the recommended rate of 3.5 GPM, our bearing will save an annual cost of $2578/year of operation. Furthermore this will proportionally reduce the volume of liquid entering the local MSD, improving the waste water output of the location.

Our water cost estimate is based on the international and domestic industrial water cost pricing provided by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, the average cost per cubic meter of water in the US is $0.37.
