The CENTRE FOR FOOD SAFETY AND APPLIED NUTRITION (CFSAN, pronounced sif'-san) is the branch of the United States FOOD & DRUGADMINISTRATION(FDA) that regulates food, dietary supplements, and cosmetics.

The FDA's mission to be the shield of consumers against dangerous and harmful Food, Drug or Cosmetic products.

Before any product that classifies as a food/drug/cosmetic enters our markets, the FDA tests it to make sure it's not "harmful" to consumers.

CONCLUSION

Although the food supply in the U.S. is considered the safest in the world, there is always room for improvement—hence the task of this organization.

A major program established in January 2001 is the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP), which was originally created to monitor fruit and vegetable juice production.

Purpose of HACCP is to provide preventive controls at the most contamination-prone points in the production process.
