Course Units (CPP20212)

To become employed as a security officer you are required to undertake training in the following units in order to obtain your South Australian Security Licence.

Core Units: CPPSEC2001A - Communicate effectively in the security industry CPPSEC2003B - Work effectively in the security industry CPPSEC2002A - Follow workplace safety procedures in the security industry CPPSEC2004B - Respond to a security risk situation CPPSEC2005A - Work as a part of a security team CPPSEC2006B - Provide security services to clients HLTAID003 - Provide First Aid Elective Units: CPPSEC2015A - Patrol Premises CPPSEC2011B - Control access to and exit from premises CPPSEC2014A - Operate basic security equipment TLIE2007A - Use communication systems CPPSEC2017A - Protect self and other using basic defensive tactics Crowd Control (inclusive): These units are in addition to the Certificate II in Security Operations units above. For employment in Crowd Control you must undertake the following elective units. Elective Units: CPPSEC2010A - Protect safety of person CPPSEC2012A - Monitor and control Individual and crowd behavior CPPSEC3002A - Manage conflict through negotiation CPPSEC3013A - Control person using empty hand techniques Responsible Service of Alcohol: SITHFAB201 - Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol Once you have obtained your security license (including Crowd Control) you are required to complete an additional unit in order to gain employment at a licensed premises. CPP20212 Certificate II in Security Operations is a Nationally Recognised Qualification

A critical part of your successful learning experience with the MSS Training Academy is to ensure that you read the participant guide for each unit prior to the training session.

You will be given the participant guide when the MSS Training Academy has received the $150 dollar deposit.

Please be aware that it will be a requirement for you to sign a participant declaration on the assessment record book to verify that you have read the relevant course participant guides.

Security Agent’s Licensing Requirements for South Australia

If you wish to perform duties as a Security Officer or Crowd Controller in South Australia you must have a Security Agents Licence. You can apply for this when you have successfully completed the necessary training requirements set down by the Commissioner of the Consumer and Business Services. Once you have received your parchment and academic record, call CBS on 131 882 to start your application over the phone, online at http://www.cbs.sa.gov.au/wcm/licensing-and-registration/occupational-licensing-and-registration/security-investigation-agent/security-and-investigation-agents-quick-links/ or visit: Ground Floor, Chesser House 91-97 Grenfell Street Adelaide, SA 5000. When applying for your Security Agents Licence you must provide the following information with you application:

Provide original copies of the qualification you obtained including the units you have successfully completed.

100 points of identification (eg: driver’s licence, birth certificate, passport, Medicare card, bank card or credit card, utilities bill).

A Personal Information Declaration form is provided at the time of application and must be completed in full (anything left blank will require you to re-submit). You will also need to be fingerprinted by South

Australia Police, these arrangements are made after the lodgement of your application. Pay the correct application and pre-grant fee which is: Application fee: $438.00 Pre - grant fee: $284.00 (this amount will be refunded if your application is not successful) For each subsequent year that you wish to maintain your licence: $284.00

These fees are correct as of 1st July 2014. Be aware that current information and prices are subject to change and we recommend that you make your own enquiries directly to the Office of Consumer and Business Affairs. Crowd Control

When applying for your Security Agent’s Licence and would like to undertake functions as a crowd controller it is recommended that you state this when you are submitting you application. If you fail to indicate this when you submit your application then it is considered an alteration to conditions of your licence and it will attract a $260.00 fee. After you have obtained your Security Agent’s Licence, with the inclusion of the crowd controller function stated on the back, and you would like to undertake duties in a licensed premises/venue. You will need to apply to the Office of Liquor and Gambling Commission and make an application to seek approval from the Commissioner. Furthermore, you will need to include a copy of your Statement of Attainment with the unit code SITHFAB201 Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol. The application fee for this will be $115.00.
