EDMS CAD exchange folders can be organized differently (e.g. by calendar year, sub-projects, special topics,…). It is the CERN technical pilot’s responbibility to specify how to arrange exchange documents in the CAD exchange folder. Only the two main sub-folders « CERN to XXX » (export documents) and « XXX to CERN » (import documents) are mandatory.

STEP 1 (folder lifecycle menu)

New document to be created in this folder

REQUIREMENTIn order to improve history and traceability of CAD data transferred, it is required to create one single EDMS export document and one single EDMS import document per « CAD Exchange job ». The « CAD Exchange job » is defined in a technical specification issued by CERN technical pilot. If the content of a « CAD Exchange job » needs to be updated, new versions of EDMS export and import documents must be created (no new EDMS documents).

REQUIREMENTThe content of this page has to be specified by CERN technical pilot in order to ensure clarity and traceability of the document.

Very important : the choice between a public access or a restricted access is defined by CERN technical pilot.

Change status to “Engineering check”

STEP 1 (« Engineering Check »)

After the change status into « Engineering Check », an automatic e-mail notification (« files are available in document EDMS XXX ») is sent to the list of persons which have access rights for the exchange folder. This list is accessible in the « Access Rights » menu.

STEP 2 (« Transferred »)

REQUIREMENTIt is mandatory to change the status of the document into « transferred » before creating a new version of the document.

!

It is CERN technical pilot duty to change the document status into « transferred » once the data transfer (local upload of documents) has been confirmed.

tRules for CERN CAD Exchange tool

CAD FILES IN EDMS CAD EXCHANGE DOCUMENTCAD files dedicated to CERN CAD Exchange tool can be inserted in EDMS CAD Exchange documents either as a compressed zip file (only one per document) or as individual files. It is strictly forbidden to mix zip files and individual files in the same EDMS CAD Exchange document.


CAD FILE NAMINGCAD files (CATIA) sent from CERN through CERN CAD Exchange tool are named as follow : CADxxxxxxxxx.CATProduct, CADxxxxxxxxx.CATPart or CADxxxxxxxxx.CATDrawing. It is strictly forbidden to rename any received file. New CAD files created by external users can be named either freely or in agreement with CERN technical pilot.

IMPORT AND EXPORT A SET OF CAD FILESCAD files sent from CERN are in « editable » or « read only » mode. The returned EDMS CAD Exchange document must at least contain the original set of CAD files (modified or read-only) and potentially new files which have been created (e.g. drawings) for a dedicated CAD Exchange job. Do not mix files from different exchanges. One data set for an exchange comes from one version of an EDMS CAD Exchange document and the result is returned by one version of an EDMS CAD Exchange document. If updates are needed, a new iteration of send-receive is made by versioning both EDMS CAD Exchange documents.
