Local TV Host - Irene R. Smith 2008 National Award Winner

TV SHOWS CURRENT EVENTS PRODUCTIONS PRODUCE MONTHLY

TESTIMONIALSAmici Italian Cafe, Covington, GA“During the month in which our segment aired on Taste of Newton, we had customers on a daily basis tell us that they saw it. Many of these customers we’re first-timers to our restaurant and many were customers that had not been to our establishment in a long time. We definitely saw results and feel that the money we spent to be a part of this show was recouped very quickly in the increased business we received. This was probably the best money we’ve spent on advertising to date.”

Buncie Hay Lanners, Covington, Ga.“The work that Current Events did for the Arts Associa-tion was of the highest quality, including skilled videog-raphy and effective choice of segments to put together a whole piece that really told our story in an artistic way!”

“Dear Chris and Terri, I would like to take this opportu-nity to thank you for the wonderful job that you did on our Taste of Newton ads. Being new to the downtown area we were a bit skeptical about investing in a cable ad. Believe me, we were overwelmed with the response. At this time we can’t even estimate how much new business we have gained. A lot of our new customers tell us, we saw you on TV and didn’t know you were here. I would say as of now that this has been the most successful cam-paign ad I have been associated with. Tell all your staff, especially MS. Irene, thank you for a great job. Sincerly, Jim Williamson, Plain Nuts Catering and Deli” www.plainnutscatering.com

Tommy Hailey, Covington, Georgia“Just wanted to say how impressed and how pleased I am that the Newton Co. Recreation Commission chose”

A Taste of Newton” to help market our department. The show and the company Current Events are “First Class” and I would never hestitate recommonding this company to anyone considering moving their business to the next level. Kudo’s to a great group of people that really love this community. Tommy Hailey

“We are very pleased with the results that our featured segment on Taste of Newton brought. Being a new busi-ness in town, and being on the local channel with Mrs. Irene increased our business in a hurry! Taste of Newton exceeded our expectations and I would recommend anyone who owns a local business to get on the show. They are easy to deal with and make it a very comfortable process. Like our menu and dishes, Taste of Newton is suprisingly affordable and top notch.” Debbie Cussen, Debbie’s Deli & Cafe, (next to BP gas on Pace Street).

Nothing gets the phone ringing and the orders coming in like lots of big media adversing. TV, Publicaons and major Internet sites reach thousands, even millions, of potenal customers around the clock.

Even with the breathtaking development of the Internet, Television remains the king of media. Almost 99% of North American homes have at least one television. The average person watches TV seven hours each day. And people consistently say they get most of their news and informaon from television, especially local TV news.

TV adversing is also very expensive. With prime-me 30 second commercials in medium-sized cies cosng several thousands dollars each, broadcast TV ads are out of reach for most small and medium sized businesses. Mass appeal television lacks the ability to closely target the audience. Even if you can scrape together enough for a few TV commercials, much of your investment can be wasted on

thousands of people who aren’t interested in what you sell.

Cable TV provides a soluon, especially for small business. Cable TV ads tend to be dirt cheap, even though their audience is huge. Over half of all American homes subscribe to cable. Cable’s subscribers watch more television and have higher incomes. Cable also has the ability to send your commercials to specific parts of town and neighborhoods.

LOW COST AND TARGETED Many media experts are recommending cable TV adversing to their clients. “Prime me spots on broadcast TV cost $2,000 to $3,000 in this area. Prime me cable spots go for $175,” says Leslie Speidel, a media buyer in Raleigh, North Carolina.

For instance, commercials on cable systems in the suburbs outside New York City are cheaper. Your 30 second spots run on CNN and ESPN for $25. Nick goes for $20 and TNN, BET, and VH-1 are $15 per commercial. Expect to get beer rates when you buy packages of mulple spots.

Small town cable prices are even lower. It is not unusual to buy commercials for $2 to $3 in a town of 40,000 people.

While most of the commercials on cable

TV programs are naonal spots for major corporaons, four to six commercials per hour are made available to local adversers. New digital technology allows many cable systems to easily and accurately schedule your commercials on specific channels to be seen in chosen communies and neighborhoods. “This new digital capability is great for placement purposes. The target is very focused. The geographic area is as big or as small as you want,” Speidel points out. “Plus, the price of spots is affordable.”

The ability to target specific groups of viewers is one of cable’s most important advantages. A clothing store specializing in kids cloths can adverse on the Family Channel. A pool maintenance service can put their spots on the Weather Channel. In most cases, regular broadcast TV with more general programming would be inefficient adversing for specialized businesses like these. Take claims of big audiences with a grain of salt. It’s not the number of eyeballs watching but a carefully targeted audience that gets results for your business.

PLACING YOUR ORDER AND PRODUCING YOUR COMMERCIAL Cable rates, like everything in media, are highly negoable. Some channels will cost more than others. The zones you choose to send your spots to, the size of your

town, and the me of year will all have an influence on the spot price you pay. Don’t wait unl the last minute to place your spots. Plan weeks in advance. Placing your order early will ensure you get the mes and channels you want at a lower price.

Geng your commercial produced can be expensive and me consuming. A razzle-dazzle TV spot will easily cost thousands to produce. Keep costs down by planning your spot carefully. You won’t want to make costly revisions while the producon crew is there with the hourly meter cking. Look into a smaller producon company such as Current Events Producons (www.ce-producons.com) for your affordable commercial projects.

Dramac commercials with actors are best le to the major networks. For a small business on a limited budget, it can be a challenge trying to produce a commercial yourself. They rarely work out and oen look amateurish, which could send a negave impression to potenal clients. Keep your concept simple.

ADVERTISING SOLUTION:No maer how large or small your ad budget, check out Cable TV. The power of television to demonstrate your products and services is hard to beat. Low cost cable is a sure winner for small business.

FILM TRANSFER & VIDEO CONVERSION“Dear Chris: My family and I are thrilled with the transfer of 4000 ft of my Dad’s old 8mm film to DVD. My sister and I have laughed and secretly cried as we showed our own children moving pictures of ourselves as chil-dren. Seeing our parents again in theiryouth, even in 1946 full color, is such a thrill. To see our grandparents and even great grandparents LAUGHING and SMILING as they were 60 years ago is a wonderful sight. We cannot say THANK YOU enough for a profes-sional product, ease of workingwith you, and your courteous service. Without a doubt, we’d do business with you again and recommend you to all our friends.” Sincerely, DAVID GINN, Loganville GA

“What a wonderful feeling to now have all of our 8mm movies trans-ferred to disk. Chris and his entire crew put in many extra hours to get everything just the way we wanted it. Now we have all of those years of memories with our children to share and laugh with them. What a joy to watch our grandchildren laugh at their mom and dad seeing them when they were their age. Without a doubt this was one of the best things I have ever done for our family.” - Rick & Jane, Oxford, GA

“For so long I kept my old 8mm film reels in a box thinking one day I would get them transferred to DVD but not really know HOW I would do it. Last year I drove by Chris’ building and there it was: “Film Transfer” written under his business name, “Current Events Productions”. The next day I dug out the reels and within a week I was home watching a crisp DVD transfer of my childhood memories. I actually brought tears to my eyes! Chris and his crew were so easy to work with and they gave me a lot of options. I highly recommend utilizing their services. “ - Brian Healy, O.D. Covington GA

“My experience with Current Events Productions was really nice. The time that the work was completed on both occasions was very quick (within a work day). Which was great for me since I was needing the job done fast. The pricing is very reasonable and I look forward to doing business with them again!” Dana Burton, Mansfield GA

Preserve Your Memories Now and Convert Your Home Movies to DVD!

Growing Up, Birthdays, Baptisms, School Plays, Sports, Family Vacations, Family Reunions, Favorite Pets, Graduations, Awards,

Wedding, Bridal/Baby Showers, Child Births, Anniversaries, Holidays, Deceased Relatives

Timeframe of technology and consumer useDuring the late 60’s, and then the 70’s consumers could film their home movies on 8 mm and 16 mm. Once they completed filming a reel they could then take the film to be processed and developed much like photos at a photo lab. This process was similar to making negatives but on long continuous strips. The images were permanently “burned” into the film. Once processed, the reels could then be watched while using a film projector to play back the home movies.

Then technology changed to a completely different format – VHS. VHS became popular to the average household around the mid 80’s. This also required a VCR to play the home movies on. In order to be affordable to consumers, a magnetic medium was used for the tape, which basically “develops” it own images directly onto the tape! No more need to have the reels developed at a video lab! The main disadvantage being that it was not a long-term solution for keeping precious memories stored.

Currently, the popular and affordable medium is DVD, which is completely digital. Once you transfer all your old home movies to DVD you can be rest assured that all your valuable memories are preserved for many generations to come!

How and Why VHS deterioratesDue to the magnetic medium for VHS, this magnetic field will weaken over time weather you watch the video or it simply sits on a shelf somewhere! Videotapes will physically deteriorate in a relatively short period of time (typically after five years). After 10-15 years of storage the quality of video decreases dramatically. DVD is designed to last for generations without any loss of video and audio quality.

Benefits of converting all sentimental video to current media – DVDIn addition to the DVD, the digital video files on the disc will be valuable even when the DVD format itself has come and gone. The deterioration is stopped once the video transfer to DVD occurs and digital video is here to stay. We also transfer photos and slides to video on dvd. The video files we place on your DVD are not encrypted so you

can transfer them to future formats!

DVDs are easy and affordable to share. All family members will be happy to receive your latest home video on dvd; without the hassle of setting up all the old equipment they need to play and view it.

We have taken every precaution to ensure the safety of your precious and irreplaceable home movies. We process on site, by hand cleaning your film, DIGITALLY capturing each frame of 8 and super 8mm film. Most film transfer companies simply project your movie on a wall and then record it. This method is poor quality. We capture using the latest technology – frame by frame into a high end, sophisticated system. We can even enhance your video by color correcting and adding background music and/or voice over narration. We employ film and video professionals to transfer and handle your movies. See pricing on our website. We are very competitive and affordable! Remember…you will only need to do this once; you might as well use the best! Your past, present and future generations deserve it!

FILM TRANSFER & VIDEO CONVERSION“Current Events did a wonderful job on transferring my movie film to a DVD. I was afraid they would not be able to salvage any of the movies I had taken them because they had been damaged by fire, smoke and water when our home burned. After meeting with Chris I felt they were going to do everything in their power to give me a DVD showing my children growing up, holiday celebrations, vacations and etc. The people at Current Events were very sincere and knew how im-portant these films were to me. I really liked the fact I could sit down with an individual and hear how they would try and save the wonderful memories on these film. I did not have to be afraid of my film getting lost in the mail. I would certainly recommend Current Events to anyone wanting to convert their movie film or videos to a DVD. Our DVD has been such a blessing to us and I am very thankful to Current Events being here.” - Sue Malcom (Social Circle, GA)

“Current Events was very helpful with my project. They were able to produce a DVD from my VHS in a short period of time and were very helpful with the corporate billing needs I had. Thank you.” - Tammy C., Oxford College, Oxford GA

“We were extremely happy to see our old collection of slides scroll across our TV screen after Current Events cleaned them up and scanned them onto a CD we could play on our DVD player. THey did an excellent job of color correcting and dealing with very old (30+ years) 35mm slides. Kudos to their crew.” - Terry Clark, Oxford GA

“My husband was turning 41 and I could not think of a thing to give the man who has everything. I saw an advertisement for Current Events Productions Film Transfer and it all clicked. I had my husband’s child-hood 8mm films converted to DVD. He loved it! He thought the video was well done and the best gift ever!” Marteeta Spradling, Covington, GA

The importance of transferring your home movies to DVD

Did you know VHS videotapes have a shelf life average of 12-15 years? That’s right! Even if you store your tapes in an ideal environment. They begin to deteriorate and fade even after as little as the first five years. Handled properly, DVD’s have an estimated shelf life of 100 years! Make extra copies and store in home safes or bank safety boxes. So that, no matter what new video formats come out in the future, your precious home movies will be preserved.

Several years ago, Chris and I began offering this service after we observed our youngest son (9 years old at the time) watching his big brother’s baby videos (13 years old at that time). When I asked Chris why was the color so “washed out” looking, I had assumed it was our VHS player needed cleaning. After several cleanings, it still played faded and grainy. I asked him if these were my Mom’s copies (who had passed away in 2000) and he stated that they were our originals. We suspected it was due to the magnetic tape medium used in VHS tapes and began our research. In a bit of a panic, we purchased all the commercial grade equipment necessary to transfer our precious memories to digital format (dvd) and now want to bring the awareness to the public. Even if you don’t use our services, please find somewhere to take them! And please make sure they transfer your tapes “in-house” and not ship them somewhere across country with thousands of others! We are very competitive with the larger chains and offer personal care and service of your tapes whatever format you have. It is an affordable investment that you will be glad you made for generations to come.

Did you have your wedding recorded to VHS? Make sure you are able to watch your wedding day for many years to come. Have the quality preserved right where it’s at now instead of waiting to do it “some day” when it’s too late. This makes an excellent and unique anniversary present.

Did you or your parents have their home movies transferred to VHS before DVD format was available? If so, someone in the family should take the steps to have it transferred to DVD (digital). VHS will only lose quality over time and eventually erase. Preserve the family history and preserve the memories for generations.

GRAPHIC DESIGNVIDEOGRAPHY - EVENTWhen you’re planning your next event, consider hiring a pro-fessional to videotape it. Don’t depend on a friend or family member to video tape your event for you, let them enjoy the festivities. It is unfair to put undo pressure on a friend or family member to be responsible for capturing the event.

Q: How will you know to capture the important details? A: We meet with our clients prior to the event to get details. If an event planner is involved, we are in constant communication with them every step of the way.

Q: What if you miss something that is critical? A: We have many years experience in Social Event Vid-eography. Our dedicated, full time staff is trained to be prepared for critical highlights and must stay informed the entire time during an event.

Q: Once you have hours of raw footage, now what? A: Our creative staff will sort, analyze and edit the footage that we feel best represents the event video.

Q: What about making the video interesting so that they watch the event all the way through? A: We use Prosumer equipment that is geared to capture footage in a high quality manner. We also use smooth pan-ning and zooming motions unlike friends or family. We’ll edit out “dead space” that is irrelivant to the event, leaving only the best scenes. CEP is also experienced in graphic design so that your text used in video, DVD menu chapters and packaging will be consistant, professional and polished.

Q: How are you going to share this event with ev-eryone that attended or the ones who could not? A: At Current Events Productions, our customers have many options to choose from. We can offer DVD duplica-tion as well as web-to-video services at affordable rates. This is an excellent way to say “Thank You” for attending with a DVD copy, or sharing the event with guest who could not attend by using the video-to-web service.

Your friends, family, future generations, organization mem-bers will have an enjoyable keepsake video they can look forward to watching over and over!

Video services from a small production company are more affordable than you think. We videotape a variety of events, listed below are just a sample of what we do.

• Birthday Parties• Sweet Sixteen Parties• Anniversaries• Retirements• Dance/Music Recitals• Graduations• Pageants• Family Tribute Videos• Class/Family Reunions• School Performances• Church Plays/Programs• Annual Holiday Parties• Funeral/Memorial Servicesand more...

We selected Current Events Productions to help us celebrate the 95th by producing a keepsake video on DVD that included the (2) day event. Chris Haler worked with us on Saturday and Sunday during the cooking of the whole hog and Brunswick stew. Teri Haler attended the Ewing Reunion on Sunday and recorded the family history for each family in attendance. The DVD was well received by all the Ewing family and friends as a result of the professional

job that was completed by Current Events Productions. - T.M. “Mort” Ewing, Treasurer Ewing Reunion

We have been using Current Events Productions in

Covington for two school years now. I can tell a big difference in the overall quality from when we did the recordings ourselves (and we have a great camera). Not only do

we have annual events now documented and archived for history reference,

but we can offer students, parents, and faculty the opportunity to have a dvd video they can keep and share with family and friends. They can quickly analyze each event space and get a great taping to portray it in the final version. I like the fact that there are more than one camera options and able to input sound directly into the video camera. In the past when we recorded ourselves, we had many ruined videos due to various mishaps such as surrounding audience sneezing, coughing, talking or even someone bumping into the camera during an event. It is also nice having them duplicate the dvd copies and handling the fulfilment orders. We are very pleased with Current Events professional services and will continue to use them for future performances. - Jennifer Sirotkin, Oxford College of Emory University

CINEMATIC WEDDING VIDEOGRAPHYWhy is professional wedding videography important to brides and grooms?

Sound, motion and storytelling. There is no argument that an artistically captured still photograph captures a moment in time forever. The beauty of a still photograph is a timeless snapshot and one that can easily be shown to friends and family for years to come. Video picks up where the photograph ends. Video helps tell the remainder of the story, and in a way that only it can do.

Sound. There is no more compelling story than your wedding day story. One of the most important aspects of this story is your commitment to each other with the reciting of your vows. Most brides agree that being able to “hear” their vows again, long after their ceremony, and for years to come, is very important to them. Only your professional videographer can capture the vows for you to listen to again and again. Your vows are an important part of your wedding day story. Keep them forever.

Many brides and grooms are so filled with the

emotions of the day that it is difficult for them to take in all that they have

created for their wedding day. Wedding day aspects such as how the music sounded when the guests were seated are literarily impossible for the bride to experience. We often hear brides and grooms ask their family or friends at the reception, “Did I sound nervous during the ceremony?”. With your professional wedding video, you can hear for yourself. How you sounded, how the music sounded and how your guests sounded are part of your wedding day story. This part of the story can only be told through your wedding video.

It is one thing to receive a heart felt card with kind words written that wish you congratulations on your wedding day. But it is extraordinary to see and hear candid remarks made to you and captured forever on your wedding video. You will be able to see and hear it for years to come on your wedding video. Only your wedding video can allow you to keep these precious memories for future generations to share.

Motion.Your story would not be complete without seeing the motion of you walking down the isle as a single woman for the last time. Remember, you are the last one arriving to

the ceremony and the first one out. Only video can capture this part of your wedding day story and everything you did not get the chance to see. The beauty

and grace of your first dance as husband and wife can only be fully experienced after the fact through your wedding video. What was your audiences’ reaction to the events of the day? Video can help to capture this story through their expressions too. You will be able to watch your guests and family move on the dance floor as they celebrate your day. The motion of your wedding day helps to capture your story like no other medium can. (Tip: 30 seconds of video = 900 photos!)

Storytelling. Most people love a good story. The best stories are told through the sound and motion and words of motion pictures. The story of your wedding day is no exception. We all understand the emotion that good cinema can provide. With your cinematic wedding video, you can relive the sounds and motion of your wedding day story. The combination of sound and motion, shooting and editing in a cinematic style, and capturing your wedding day events on video, allows for a unique and cinematic storytelling experience that only your wedding video can capture. Your story is the story of the beginning of your lives together. You have done everything you could to make your wedding day as special as possible for you, your family and your guests. Your wedding video is the only way that you can capture the story of your day at its best. Use a professional wedding videographer to create your cinematic wedding video.

TESTIMONIALS:

The Miller’s, Greensboro, GA“How fortunate we were to have been granted a beautiful weather day on the date we selected for our daughter’s wedding, AND to have selected Current Events Productions to videogragh this special day! Chris and Teri Haler did a FABULOUS job bringing the entire days events back to life in the wedding video. They were easy to work with, very professional with lots of good ideas and experience to produce a terrific video. . Chris and Teri chose great music selection to accompany the video. They did a great job editing the highlights and graciously

worked with us to make certain that our requests were included. Very important, but often overlooked, is the way they worked with all the other vendors, especially the photographer. They were “team members” trying to make certain everything went smoothly. We also appreciated how “inconspicuous” they were, especially in the wedding ceremony. “

Rob and Libby, Newborn GA“Current Events Productions was absolutely wonderful! From correspondence in the beginning, to our wedding day, to the final video - Chris and Teri were an absolute pleasure to work with. They captured our wedding day so creatively. We could never say enough wonderful things about them! We highly recommend Current Events Productions to anyone looking for a wonderful, stress-free videography experience.”

Jessica and Adam, Covington, GA“I agonized over whether I should hire someone to video my wedding, but after seeing a sample of the work Current Events has done in the past, I decided to take the chance. I am so happy that I did! It was very professionally done and caught many special moments. The staff was friendly, and VERY unobtrusive. I was unaware of the video being made at the reception until they asked for a final shot. The reception and formals footage alone was worth the cost! They are my favorite sections of the video! I HIGHLY recommend using Current Events Productions!!!!”

WHY SHOULD YOU HAVE A PROFESSIONAL WEDDING VIDEO?If capturing all of the excitement and emotion of your wedding day is important to you, then you deserve the best memory-capturing tool available. Our average wedding video contains over 200,000 pictures AND the sound that goes with them, including the vows, the cheers, and the laughter. Photos and Videos serve different purposes. Photos make for a lovely album and nice coffee table conversation piece. Video is like an actual movie with sound, motion and details that capture the day as it took place! Remember, after the day is over the ONLY memento you’ll have from your wedding will be pictures…and a keepsake love story video which is priceless.
