2013 MEMBERSHIP DRIVE Well, time has come to start saying our good byes. My last day here on the hospital campus is Thursday, April 11th. I’ve truly enjoyed getting to know all of you over the past 3 1/2 years and certainly wish the best for all of our employees and your families as well as for HMH. When you step back a moment and think about it, a lot of changes have taken place in this relatively short amount of time. Some of them are exciting and some create memories. The 2013 contributions will be used to purchase an autoSCAN-4 microbiology reader for the Laboratory Department. The autoSCAN-4 simplifies identification of organisms and identifies the antibiotics that will best treat them. This machine will allow the laboratory to cut down on the amount of time required to set up and read the tests. It will also significantly cut down on the wait time for patients to receive the results as the staff will be able to test more of these cultures right in our own laboratory rather than sending them to a reference lab. Our overall goal for the 2013 Membership Drive is to raise a minimum of $20,000. Membership dues are $10 per person or $20 per family annually. Your tax deductible contributions are greatly appreciated. With any contribution of $500 or more, your name will appear on the Donor Board in the hospital lobby. Help us prepare for the future of Horn Memorial Hospital by becoming a member today. Your membership contribution can be given directly to Jean Whiteing in Administration or placed in her mailbox. Patients have the right to review and/or receive copies of their medical records and this is the policy that explains the proper procedure and forms for this. Employees who receive healthcare services through HMH or HPC need to follow the proper procedure for reviewing and/or obtaining copies of their medical records. All patients should be encouraged to speak with their healthcare provider regarding the results of any tests done. It is preferred that requests be handled through the Health Information Department or HPC depending on where services are rendered. If neither of these departments are open and the request is urgent, please be sure to document all requests on the proper forms and return them to the Health Information Department or HPC.

Pharmacy, Respiratory and Surgery Departments work together to organize the Crash Cart in the Emergency Department! GREAT TEAMWORK!

Ann Knudsen is our new technician for Rehab Services. Some may remember her from when she worked in the Environmental Services Department! She is married to Marc and they have 3 children: Miranda, Marty and Matthew. They live in the country near Ida Grove. Ann collects Precious Moments, and her hobby is riding bike in the summer with Marc and the kids. She especially enjoys being with the kids in the summer when school is out.

Julie Andresen, RN, is working the day shift in the Nursing Department. She lives on a farm outside of Cushing with her husband, Evan, and puppy, Burt. Julie enjoys being outside and working in her garden.

Patrick Stevens is our new Respiratory

Welcome to HornTherapy Director. He and his wife, Cathy, live in Battle Creek, but come to us from Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh area), and before that, Michigan (Traverse City area). He has two daughters: Chelsie, a recent college graduate with a degree in Communication and a minor in Theology, and Cara a Junior at Murray State in Murray, Kentucky – studying Equine Science and Farm Management. Pat is interested in forensics and was a judge for high school forensics (not CSI stuff, but literally forensics)!

Jenny Anderson, RN, is working the day shift in the Nursing Department on the Medical/Surgical floor. She lives in Mapleton with her husband, Joe, and four children: Joyce, 15; Drew, 12; Hailey, 9; and David, 6.

Thirty plus employees and community representatives attended the Ida County Community Health Needs Assessment held on Thursday, March 21st in the HMH Conference Center. This group identified strengths and weaknesses of healthcare in Ida County. After all results are compiled, HMH will receive a report to help identify areas where we can work towards improving healthcare services.

Who says we don’t have fun at work?! There is an ongoing “war” between the Quality and HIM Departments on one-upping each other with funny pranks! ...Unsure of who started it, but this picture indicates that Megan Wellendorf is winning with her recent “I love Megan” signs posted throughout Kristin Dixon’s office!!

Thanks for 30+ great years in nursing, Nancy Schu...you will be missed!
