En 2017 celebramos el 70º aniversario del establecimiento de relaciones diplomáticas entre Filipinas y España. En el marco de estas celebraciones, tenemos una agenda repleta de convocatorias literarias y cinematográficas, así como proyectos de colaboración e intercambios culturales. Nuestros alumnos han logrado que el Instituto Cervantes de Manila ocupe el primer puesto en número de matrículas dentro de la red de Institutos Cervantes. Un servicio académico de calidad sigue siendo una de las principales prioridades de nuestro centro. Nos visita en febrero el director del Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Barcelona (MACBA), Ferrán Barenblit, que participará en varias convocatorias culturales en Manila. ¡Un año más os invitamos a participar en la celebración del Día Internacional del Libro! La gran feria de la cultura en español, filipino, inglés y en otros idiomas, vuelve una vez más este abril para hacer del corazón de Makati un punto de encuentro para todos los amantes de los libros.

In 2017, we will be commemorating the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Spain. In celebrating this special event, we have lined up a host of literary and cinematographic encounters, as well as projects of collaboration and cultural exchanges.

Thanks to our students, Instituto Cervantes de Manila has managed to reach the top spot with the highest number of enrollments within the network of Instituto Cervantes. The quality of our academic service remains one of our main priorities in the center.

In February, Mr. Ferrán Barenblit, Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona (MACBA) will be visiting to participate in several cultural encounters in Manila.

And as always, we are inviting you to participate in the celebration of the International Book Day! An excellent cultural event in Spanish, Filipino, English and other languages; returns once again this April to make the heart of Makati a meeting point for all lovers of books.

La Iglesia parroquial de San José de las Piñas acoge la cuadragésima segunda edición del Festival Internacional del Órgano de Bambú (IBOF) organizado por la Bamboo Organ Foundation. Tanto la iglesia (1819) como su órgano de bambú (1821-24) fueron construidos por el sacerdote español Diego Cera de la Virgen del Carmen, párroco de Las Piñas entre 1795 y 1830.

La Embajada de España en Filipinas patrocina un año más este festival referente dentro de la escena musical internacional, en el que el órgano de bambú es el protagonista principal. The St. Joseph Parish Church in Las Piñas City hosts the 42nd edition of the International Bamboo Organ Festival (IBOF) organized by the Bamboo Organ Foundation. Both the church (1819) and its bamboo organ (1821-1824) were built by the Spanish priest Diego Cera de la Virgen del Carmen, who was the parish priest of Las Piñas between 1795 and 1830.

Once again this year, the Embassy of Spain in the Philippines sponsors this remarkable festival, a reference in the international music scene, where the bamboo organ takes the lead role.

De nuevo la Fundación Escuela Taller de Filipinas organiza un simposio en el que una de las temáticas es el patrimonio colonial español en peligro, esta vez en relación a las estrategias de prevención y conservación preventiva que se pueden desarrollar en Filipinas. Al simposio están invitados un buen número de expertos de la región (Taiwán, Indonesia, India, Japón, Tailandia) así como expertos filipinos y españoles del IPCE y de la Fundación Santa María la Real del Patrimonio Histórico. Las 5 sesiones del simposio recorren los aspectos clave de la difícil, pero valiosa relación entre las políticas de prevención ante desastres naturales y las de preservación del patrimonio construido. Un buen número de mesas redondas animarán el debate sobre algunos aspectos críticos, y ayudarán a los asistentes a este simposio a vislumbrar las enormes posibilidades para el patrimonio tangible filipino que se derivan de una apuesta por el binomio reducción de riesgos ante desastres y preservación cultural.

The Escuela Taller de Filipinas Foundation Inc. (ETFFI) is once again organizing a symposium, this time on endangered Spanish colonial heritage in connection with strategies of prevention and preventive conservation that can be put into practice in the Philippines. Invited to take part in the forum are experts from the region (Taiwan, Indonesia, India, Japan, Thailand) as well as Filipino and Spanish specialists from the Instituto del Patrimonio Cultural de España (IPCE) and the Fundación Santa María la Real del Patrimonio Histórico. The five sessions of the symposium will explore the key but difficult aspects of the valuable relationship between policies of prevention in the face of natural disasters and those of built heritage preservation. A number of round-table discussions will enliven the debate on some critical aspects and will help participants to discern the enormous possibilities for Philippine tangible heritage that stem from the commitment to binomial reduction of risks in the face of disasters and cultural preservation.

El cine dirigido por mujeres ha encontrado un lugar de estabilidad en el panorama español, dentro de la situación de inferioridad que todavía se detecta cuando se analiza la presencia femenina en las profesiones artísticas y técnicas en este ámbito.

"Espacio femenino" es un programa del Instituto Cervantes dirigido a presentar la cultura cinematográfica relacionada con el cine a través de una muestra monográfica. En esta edición, se presentarán varias películas documentales que aportarán distintas aproximaciones a este formato que ya se ha convertido en una referencia del cine español contemporáneo.

Our Traffic Way of Life es un innovador proyecto de investigación sobre el tráfico en Metro Manila desde una perspectiva centrada en lo humano, conducido por Dowayo y el Centro de Innovación para la Integración de De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, junto con el apoyo de la Embajada de España y el Instituto Cervantes de Manila. La investigación busca entender los modos de vida, valores, aspiraciones y motivaciones de los ciudadanos en su realidad cotidiana para así construir escenarios futuros deseables. En noviembre de 2016 hubo una investigación inicial centrada de cerca en las personas y en sus maneras, especialmente en sus acciones de la vida diaria. Se está resumiendo la información recogida, la cual descubre conocimientos que alimentan el proyecto con nuevas ideas y posibilidades. El 3 de marzo se celebra un seminario para presentar las conclusiones y revelaciones del proyecto.

In collaboration with the Embassy of Spain in the Philippines and the Instituto Cervantes de Manila, research specialist Dowayo and the Hub of Innovation for Inclusion (HiFi) of De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde conduct Our Traffic Way of Life, a human-centered research innovation project on Metro Manila traffic. The research seeks to deeply understand the way of life, values, aspirations and interests of urban denizens in their everyday reality in order to build more desirable future scenarios. On November 2016, an initial research was carried out, focusing on people and their ways, paying special attention to the ordinary, day-to-day things that they do. The information gathered is being summed up which reveals insights that reinforce the project with new ideas and possibilities. The conclusions and revelations derived from the project will be presented during a seminar on March 3.

POSPORO(S) VIDEO LAUNCH + CONCERT (TBD)

Posporo(s) es un proyecto de cooperación musical entre España y Filipinas, iniciado en 2016, a través de una serie de cuatro conciertos a dos bandas, un grupo español y un grupo filipino aptos para la sinergia. Posporo(s) vuelve a la escena en 2017: cada concierto tendrá lugar en una sala y ciudad diferentes del área metropolitana, integrándose de esa manera en la red orgánica de la música en vivo de la ciudad. El objetivo principal seguirá siendo facilitar el encuentro entre músicos españoles y filipinos a pie de escenario y promocionar la música alternativa española en Filipinas, en una megalópolis como Metro Manila; así como dar a conocer a músicos y públicos españoles a algunas de las bandas filipinas más interesantes presentes en la programación de los bastiones alternativos de la capital del archipiélago. Posporo(s) is a musical project under the framework of cultural cooperation between Spain and the Philippines. The key players of Posporo(s) are the independent music scene of both countries, represented by four Spanish bands and the same number of Philippine bands, with different styles and artistic approaches but are all an indication of what is happening in the contemporary music scene in Spain and the Philippines despite a 12,000 km-distance separating the two countries. The main objective is to facilitate the exchange and meeting between Spanish and Filipino musicians on stage and promote alternative Spanish music and introduce to Spanish media and audience some of the most intriguing Philippine bands.

Con la colaboración del Museo Nacional del Prado y la AECID, la Embajada de España y el Instituto Cervantes de Manila inauguran la exposición El Prado en la calle, una selección de fotografías de las principales obras del Museo Nacional del Prado -reproducidas a escala 1/1- que se expondrán en el parque de Ayala Triangle (Makati). El principal objetivo de esta exposición es ofrecer información sobre el museo español y sus ricas colecciones de manera didáctica y atractiva.

Under the auspices of The Prado Museum and the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID), the Embassy of Spain present the exhibit El Prado on the Streets will be launched at the Ayala Triangle Gardens in Makati City and the Instituto Cervantes de Manila. The exposition will feature life-size reproductions of some of the art treasures of The Prado Museum in an effort to make the public be acquainted with the Spanish museum and its substantial collection in an attractive and educational manner.

The Embassy of Spain in the Philippines and the Instituto Cervantes de Manila launch Perro Berde7, the 8th printed edition of the only Spanish-Philippine cultural magazine, which since 2009 has provided authors, artists and researchers with a common space.

The event opens with a press conference, after which we celebrate a year´s worth of hard work involved in raising our “rara avis” along with all the contributors who have made it possible. The nature of the magazine, as its name implies in Spanish, is singular, different and unique. This year we have made some changes. We hope to surprise you!

The Día del Libro lives on at Instituto Cervantes de Manila! The Teacher Development Program is offered to share practical strategies with teachers on how to teach Spanish as a foreign language. These include traditional and modern methodologies, as well as interactive and dynamic styles of teaching Spanish. The class is especially designed for those who are already teaching the language and would like to gain new insights, as well as for those who are interested in teaching Spanish as a foreign language in the future.

Instituto Cervantes offers preparation courses for each of the six (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and

C2) DELE examinations. To ensure that candidates are at their learning peak on the

exam date, the DELE preparation courses are run just prior to the DELE exam dates.

Add value to your language skills by taking D.E.L.E.(DIPLOMAS IN SPANISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE), the accreditation exam that provides you with a worldwide recognized and official certificate issued by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports.

The Diploma in Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE) is the official certification of an individual´s competence and mastery of the Spanish language. It is a globally recognized certification granted by Instituto Cervantes in behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports.

The DELE examination have been designed following the guidelines of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) which ensures a practical and objective way of establishing standardized international measurement of proficiency level that should be achieved at every teaching stage.

You can also take advantage of our Spanish on-line Course (AVE-Aula Virtual de Español). AVE GLOBAL is Instituto Cervantes’ Spanish Virtual Classroom, an internet-based educational platform set up to provide Spanish courses for distance learning.

The following resources are available to students: > Interactive, multimedia course materials, video recorder, audiotape, games. > Communication tools: E-mail for sending text and voice messages, chats,

forums. > An automatic assessment system that collects data on completed exercises

and to which students have access whenever required.

For the AVE GLOBAL with Tutorial programs, installing Skype and/or other apps might be a technical requirement. All online courses must be concluded within 45 days of commencement.

> A six-week course with 11 hours of online tutorial and 40 hours of workload. > Group must have a minimum of 5 students. > No previous knowledge of Spanish is required. > Beginners may avail of this type of course.

FOR LEVEL A2 > A six-week with 7 hours of online tutorial and 40 hours of workload. > For level A2 and up, the group must have a minimum of 5 students.

REQUIREMENTS AND METHODS OF PAYMENTTo enroll in any course, a duly filled-out application form should be presented to the Administration office.

Enrollment is on a first-come-first-served basis. Reservations and/or phone call transactions are not accepted.

Payments may be made in CASH and selected debit and CREDIT CARDS (MasterCard and Visa). For card payments, the amount paid must be above Php 500.00.

Exact amount for cash payments will be much appreciated. Only FULL payments will be accepted during enrollment.

DIAGNOSTIC EXAMSBefore registering for any language class in our center a diagnostic exam is required for the following cases:

> students who have studied Spanish in the past but have never studied at Instituto Cervantes.

> returning students of ICM (after one year of not taking Spanish classes)

> students with no formal Spanish language training (but can speak the language)

Diagnostic fee will apply.

The results of the diagnostic exam is final, official and for our internal use only. Validity of results is 90 days.

CLASS SIZEFor the general language courses, the minimum number of students required to open a class is 8 and the maximum is 20; Instituto Cervantes reserves the right to dissolve courses when the minimum number of students is not satisfied at the end of the enrollment period.

LEVEL EXAMPhase tests/Exámenes de etapas are given on after levels A1.3, A2.5, B1.5 and C1. If these tests are not passed, student will not be allowed to proceed to the succeeding levels.

COURSE DISCOUNT(MAXIMUM DISCOUNT PER STUDENT: 25%)

1. Senior citizen 10% A 10 percent discount applies to senior citizens, subject to presentation of valid documentation at the time of enrollment

2. Enrolling in a general and special course at the same time. 10% This discount will be given to a student who enrolls in a general language course and a 20 or 30 hour special course which both start on the same calendar month, therefore running at the same time.

3. Level Discounts 15% A 15% discount can be availed of on every fourth (4th) consecutive enrollment provided that no discount was applied in any of the previous 3 courses. All 4 courses must be taken within the same academic year to avail of this type of discount.

It is the student´s responsibility to inform the administration of their corresponding discount. Notice of the discount after the enrollment has been executed will not be honored.

Discounts are only applicable to individual courses imparted at Instituto Cervantes premises and the Saturday courses at the Ortigas Foundation Library.
