Name of Activity: Role Optimization through Activity Analysis Description of Activity: In this activity, we will create an inventory of all the activities that occur in a patient/client journey and identify each provider role associated with each activity. This activity inventory will then be analyzed for role optimization and reduction of unnecessary duplication or conflicting roles. Learning Objectives: To reflect individually and collectively on the roles of providers in a patient/client journey. To consider and apply individual reflection and team strategies to support optimizing role and minimizing unnecessary duplication or conflicting roles. Number of participants: Ideally 8-10 participants. Amount of time needed: 15 minute to complete activity inventory analysis, 15 minutes for team reflection and role optimization planning. Space /environment considerations: Small group room with table top, poster board/markers and/or computer if electronic notes being taken. Instructions for Activity: Develop an outline of every step and/or intervention that a patient may experience during his/her visit with the team using the following list.

Name of Activity: Role Optimization through Activity Analysis

Description of Activity:

In this activity, we will create an inventory of all the activities that occur in a patient/client journey and identify each provider role associated with each activity. This activity inventory will then be analyzed for role optimization and reduction of unnecessary duplication or conflicting roles.

Learning Objectives:

To reflect individually and collectively on the roles of providers in a patient/client journey.

To consider and apply individual reflection and team strategies to support optimizing role and minimizing unnecessary duplication or conflicting roles.

Number of participants:

Ideally 8-10 participants.

Amount of time needed:

15 minute to complete activity inventory analysis, 15 minutes for team reflection and role optimization planning.

Space /environment considerations:

Small group room with table top, poster board/markers and/or computer if electronic notes being taken.

Instructions for Activity:

Develop an outline of every step and/or intervention that a patient may experience during his/her visit with the team using the following list.

This process helps to develop an activity inventory with a list of competencies and skills required to care. Complete the list on what each provider is currently doing within his/her present healthcare setting. Then review the list to see if there are activities or changes in activity to optimize what a provider could be doing to maximize care but may not be currently practicing.

Reflection Questions:

Are there areas of overlap, duplication or conflicting roles in activities?

What enablers (ie education, formal delegation) could occur to optimize what providers could be doing on the team?

What barriers (ie organizational/professional history or current workforce structure/resources) limit optimization?

Are there areas where your team could advance and optimize roles?

Are there areas where you team could learn more about potential roles and scope of practices?

Are there areas where your team could develop a new role or change in roles to maximize your roles?
