Aboriginal Engagement

Today, 21% of the Centrals workforce is Aboriginal. Last year it was 17%. Each year, we are committed to increasing Aboriginal participation and delivering new programs to not only get improved employment outcomes, but to foster cultural awareness among our team, building an inclusive workforce by nurturing relationships with our Aboriginal staff, their families and the broader Aboriginal community.

Delivering training and jobs is just one part of our commitment. Delivering true and lasting Aboriginal opportunities and overcoming disadvantage can only be done by also building relationships, breaking down barriers and improving cultural awareness in the community generally.

Our Company’s ongoing demonstrated commitment to providing training, employment and commercial opportunities for Aboriginal people, has meant we have become a trusted partner for Aboriginal people, Mining Companies and Government, when they seek to be able to deliver tangible outcomes for Aboriginal people as part of their project.

We are very proud that this commitment has enabled us to achieve success in establishing Aboriginal employment and training programs, the ability to assist Aboriginal businesses to set up and grow, to be able to provide business opportunities to these Aboriginal businesses, and the creation of joint ventures and in delivering real jobs and commercial opportunities.

6 | Capability Statement

Centrals is most proud of the growth and development of the Yagahong Alliance, which is the joint venture that Centrals are in with the Yugunga Nya people who are the traditional owners of the land north east of Meekatharra. During this period we have been able to increase the percentage of Aboriginal people working for the Yagahong Alliance at the Degrussa Mine Site from 15% to 82%.

The 3 year contract with Sandfire Resources has also enabled the Yugunga - Nya Trust to be able to purchase $1.5 million worth of equipment. As a result the Yugunga Nya people were able to increase their share in the joint venture by a further 10% during this period.

Sandfire Resources have consistently complimented the Yagahong Alliance on the safety, quality, responsiveness and reliability of the service that the onsite team provides. The onsite

team are strong and are prepared to speak up if any member of the team who are not upholding their standards. To date they have also successfully completed 2.5 years onsite with no recordable or lost time injuries being incurred.

The most astounding part of the success of the Yagahong Alliance has been how many of the Aboriginal people who were previously unemployed have then been able to flourish as a result of being given an opportunity. Sandfire Resources and Centrals

have not had to lower our expectations of the skills and the values that each of the Yagahong employees must have, we have however provided a clear pathway that initially required smaller steps.

As a result we been able to successfully train and employ Aboriginal people that have a wide range of existing skill sets that includes single mothers, long term unemployed and people that have had limited schooling.

Mine Site RehabilitationIncreasing legislative and community demands are being placed on mining companies to progressively and successfully rehabilitate areas that have been disturbed during the mining operation. As such rehabilitation is now a critical component of any successful mining operation.

Being able to successfully rehabilitate a mining site is a specialised skill. Without the correct advice, dedicated design, adequate controls, specialised equipment and skilled operators when undertaking rehabilitation works, then the outcome often results in poor results including the poor vegetation growth outcomes, ongoing erosion problems , high monitoring and compliance costs, and an unsightly area which can generate ongoing community opposition.

Centrals are part of a consortium of rehabilitation specialists who have a shared pride and the passion in being able to delivering outstanding rehabilitation solutions for mining companies. Our role is to not only ensure that exactly what has been designed is delivered onsite, but to also ensure we

• Assist with the location and identification of suitable materials for rehabilitation

• Develop safe and cost effective rehabilitation methodologies

• Provide budget pricing and commercial alternatives proposal to deliver the works

• Provide experienced specialised supervisor and operators to undertake the works

• Provision of the latest machine control technology to manage, deliver and record the actual works that were undertaken

• Provision of specialist seeding and ripping equipment

• Consultation with the local and Traditional Owners to maximise their involvement and ownership of the works

We are the people to engage when you have need to rehabilitate

• Waste Dumps

• Tailing Dam Facilities

• Rom pads and the remains of site facilities

• Roads, drains, access roads and drill pads

• Contaminated Soils

• Borrow pits

Centrals Mulching & Vegetation Services offer a variety of vegetation management options outlined below;

• Tractors specifically designed to tackle the heaviest vegetation and versatile enough to still complete small roadside mulching and clearing activities, as well as creating new tracks to assist in controlled burns and emergency access.

• Reach arm tractors designed for roadside tree and grass slashing, tree pruning and power line vegetation management. The reach arm can be run in conjunction with our mulching tractors for a complete one pass; and

• Mulchers that have proven to be a substantial improvement on traditional ‘bare earth’ clearing. The finished product provides excellent ground coverage for access roads, firebreaks and dust suppression.

One of the main benefits of the mulching unit is that cleared vegetation can be driven on immediately by light vehicles or heavy plant with minimal risk of punctures due to the unit’s unique swinging tooth configuration
