This is an incredible time of the year in our City and in the Central Police District as we are in the middle of Fleet Week with a lot of activities happening in the next few days. It is also exciting that the Giants are in the playoffs this year. Central Station Officers are prepared for all the activity and we will have extra officers deployed in the highly traveled areas such as Fisherman’s Wharf, North Beach, Chinatown and Union Square. Beginning tomorrow, we will see the Parade of Ships, then this weekend we will have our annual Italian Heritage Day Parade in North Beach and the 10/10 parade in Chinatown, both happening at the same time on Sunday. I will be working all weekend and I look forward to seeing everyone from the community. As a reminder, “See Something-Say Something.” If you witness suspicious activity, please report it right away. We are prepared to respond quickly and address the situation right away. Give yourself time to travel around the district as the streets will be crowded. Fleet Week!

This is an incredible time of the year in our City and inthe Central Police District as we are in the middle ofFleet Week with a lot of activities happening in thenext few days. It is also exciting that the Giants are inthe playoffs this year.

Central Station Officers are prepared for all theactivity and we will have extra officers deployed inthe highly traveled areas such as Fisherman’s Wharf,North Beach, Chinatown and Union Square.

Beginning tomorrow, we will see the Parade of Ships,then this weekend we will have our annual ItalianHeritage Day Parade in North Beach and the 10/10parade in Chinatown, both happening at the same timeon Sunday.

I will be working all weekend and I look forward toseeing everyone from the community.

As a reminder, “See Something-Say Something.” Ifyou witness suspicious activity, please report it rightaway. We are prepared to respond quickly andaddress the situation right away.

Definitions

Robbery – Robbery is the taking of property from another by using force or by using fear.

Assault – An assault is an unlawful attempt, coupled with the present ability, to commit a violent injuryon another person.

Battery - (Misdemeanor battery) is any willful and unlawful touching of another.(Felony battery) is the use of force or violence upon the person of another that causes

serious bodily injury.

*Assault is when a person swings their arm and battery is when that arm makes contact withanother person.

Aggravated Assault – Assault upon another person with a deadly weapon or instrument other than afirearm or by any means of force likely to produce great bodily injury.

Burglary – The intent upon entry into a property to commit grand theft, petty theft, or any felony.

Grand Theft – Grand theft is theft committed when the value of the money, labor, or property takenexceeds $950.

Petty Theft – Theft where the value of the property taken is less than $950.

Two unknown suspects approached the victims and pointed a gunat the victims. The suspects demanded their cameras. Fearing fortheir safety, the victims gave the suspects their cameras.

An unknown suspect was told he was not allowed in the store. Thesuspect used his right shoulder and pushed the victim to get into thestore. The suspect grabbed a handbag and pushed the victim toget out of the store.

An unknown suspect handed the teller a note and demandedmoney and stated that he had a gun. The teller was stunned anddid not move. The suspect reached over the counter and tried toget to the cash drawer, but was unsuccessful and fled away.

An unknown suspect entered the store and stole glasses. Thesuspect was confronted by the victim near the exit, but the suspectpulled out a knife and pointed it at the victim. Fearing for hissafety, the victim backed away and the suspect fled away.

An unknown suspect pushed the victim against a wall and stole thevictim’s cell phone from the victim’s hand. The suspect also tried totake the victim’s purse, but the victim was able to hold on to it.

The suspect was trespassing and when being escorted out, thesuspect pushed the victim twice. Citation issued.

9/30 11:52pm Aggravated Assault,With Force400 block of Powell

An unknown suspect cut the victim who was standing in line. Anargument ensued and the suspect elbowed the victim in the face.

An unknown suspect approached the victim and struck the victim inthe head.

While outside, the suspect approachedthe second victim from behind and struck the victim in the head. Thesecond victim fell and hit his head on the ground. Arrest made.

An unknown suspect was in the victim’s garage when the victimreturned home. The suspect fled when the victim went outside tocall the police. The suspect stole a tire gauge, medication,sunglasses and papers from the victim’s unlock vehicle in thegarage. It is unknown how the suspect gain entry to the garage.

Each month Central Police Station features one

of its officers in an effort to learn more about the

men and women who police our neighborhood.

This month, we interviewed Officer Mark Alvarez,

a 21-year member of Central Police Station.

Officer Alvarez was born in Detroit, Michigan. Officer Alvarez moved to San

Francisco and attended Lowell High School. After high school, he attended City

College of San Francisco.

Officer Alvarez joined the San Francisco Police Academy in 1990. After

graduating from the Police Academy, he was assigned to Mission Station for his

field training, then he was assigned to Central Station for his probation station.

After completing probation, he was assigned to Ingleside Station for his

permanent station. In 1995, Officer Alvarez accepted his transfer to return to

Central Station and has been working at Central Station since.

Officer Alvarez is a Foot Beat Officer and patrols the North Beach area. Hisfavorite things about the Central are walking the beat and the people he workswith.

2. Go to www.nationaltestingnetwork.com, choose law enforcement, and register to take the SanFrancisco exam ($45). Financial assistance is available.

3. Choose an available exam date that's convenient for you.

4. Schedule your exam.

5. You will receive an email confirming your exam date, time and location.
