HAMPTON TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT

Parent Portal Contact Preferences and Automated Attendance Notifications

Starting on Monday, March 14, 2016, the District will begin sending automated attendance notifications via voice phone calls as it has

done in previous years. The main difference this year is that our new Infinite Campus system allows parents to set notification

preferences. If you have not set any preferences yet, you may not be receiving important announcements. As a reminder, please login

to the Parent Portal and set your Message Contact Preferences as shown in the example below.

Once logged in to the portal, from the menu on the left, select Contact Preferences under the User Account section.

Set Your Message Contact Preferences:

Email Address: yourname@emaildomain

Secondary Email Address: yourname@emaildomain

For each type of message (Emergency, Attendance, Behavior, General Notification, Priority Notification, Teacher), select how you

prefer to receive that message.

You may select to receive a message on more than one device.

To change or add a phone number, submit a household information update request through the portal for approval.

Note: Please double check phone numbers and email addresses to confirm accuracy before you submit changes.

Please check the Text(SMS) check box if you would like to receive text messages sent by the school.

, message and data rates may apply. Charges are dependent on your service plan which may

include fees from your carrier to send and receive these text (SMS) messages.

, uncheck the text (SMS) box anytime.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1. I did not receive a letter with my portal login!

Please contact Chris Grossman, Secretary to the Assistant Superintendent, at 412-492-6319 or via email to [email protected], to

confirm necessary details and a letter will be mailed to you.

2. Notes on receiving calls and text messages:

1. To stop additional calls, a recipient should always press "0" to confirm receipt of messages. If a recipient listens to a message

but does not confirm its receipt by pressing "0," they may continue to receive calls and redial attempts. Confirming receipt

by pressing 0 will also end the chain of phone calls to you which may impact other members of your household depending on

how your contact preferences are set.

2. Emergency text messages are only delivered to a recipient as a final attempt at contact. They are ONLY sent when all initial

emergency phone calls and the scheduled number of redials have been attempted for the number without receipt confirmation

from the recipient. Should the recipient confirm receipt of the message (by pressing "0" after listening), all text messages

scheduled for delivery to that recipient's phone numbers will be canceled. Additional phone calls and/or redials will also be

canceled.

3. Question: Why didn't I receive a phone call, email or text message from the system?

Answer:

1. You may need to update your contact preferences in the Infinite Campus portal to include the desired number.

2. Someone else in the household may have confirmed receipt of the message.

3. Certain communications are only sent as email or phone, as text messages are limited to 140 characters and are

sometimes not sufficient to communicate all of the necessary details.

The assessments will challenge all students with tasks requiring them to inference, problem‐solve, and identifying concepts.  Students will write their own responses to items as well as choose from multiple‐choice responses.

Parents can help their children prepare for the assessment by encouraging them to get plenty of sleep each night and to eat a good breakfast each morning.  Also, parents can reassure children that the assessment gives them an opportunity to show what they have learned in order to help teachers plan the best possible instruction for them.

An informational flyer is attached to help you better understand and answer questions regarding the assessments.

Sincerely,

 Amy Kern, Ed.D.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We would like to give our students the opportunity to explore possible STEM

(Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) related career choices. We’re looking

for dynamic, energetic presenters from a broad range of careers that tie in with

STEM related careers.

Presenters will be assigned to classrooms that are age-appropriate for 30

minutes to explain their career the weeks of April 11-15 and April 18-22. The times

will vary depending on the availability of the presenter, but we are limited to

afternoon times (12:35-3:00) for grades 3-5 due to PSSA testing. Also depending on

the age and class size of the students, some classes might be combined for a larger

audience or presenters may be asked to do multiple sessions if that works with your

schedule.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you or someone you know will be able to help us, please fill out this form and return it to

school no later than Wednesday, March 16. Please return the form to Mrs. Maley (School

Counselor) and someone will contact you to discuss the details.

Yes! I would like to share my STEM related career with Central students!

Central’s Cardboard Challenge

To help celebrate Central’s SCC school-wide theme: STEM, all students are invited to participate in Central’s “Cardboard Challenge.” This optional challenge provides an opportunity for students to play and learn by using cardboard and other materials to build the things that they imagine. The activity gives students a chance to learn important skills, such as, critical thinking, resourcefulness, perseverance, decision-making all while expressing their creativity. The goals are simple. They are for students to build something amazing out of cardboard, recycled materials, and imagination and to help students learn, practice, and express their imagination and ingenuity. Central’s Cardboard Challenge is a spin-off of a global initiative which was inspired by Caine’s Arcade, a 9 year-old who used his imagination to build an elaborate arcade out of cardboard in his dad’s auto parts store one summer vacation. You can see Caine’s story at http://cainesarcade.com/. The guidelines for the challenge are simple:

Projects must be made by the students (Age appropriate safety and child protection oversight is expected)

Building can include cardboard, tape, plastic, or other recycled materials

Projects can be decorated with materials such as markers, paint, glitter, pens, pencils, etc…

There is no size limit to the cardboard projects; however, you will be responsible for transporting the finished project to and from school

All projects need to have an index card attached to it with your child’s name, grade, and the name of the Cardboard Creation!

Have fun! If your child is interested in participating in Central’s Cardboard Challenge, please fill out the form below and return to your child’s homeroom teacher no later than Friday, April 15. All projects are due by the end of the day on Tuesday, April 26 and will be displayed for Central students to enjoy. If you have any questions, please email Ann Lieberman, RTII Math Support Teacher, at [email protected]. _________________________________________________________ Yes,mychildwillbeparticipatinginCentral’sCardboardChallenge.IunderstandtheprojectisdueonTuesday,April26.Name:____________________________________________________________________________________Grade:____________________________HomeroomTeacher:____________________________ParentSignature:_____________________________________________________________________
