    !

! This month many ofour youth and ward members are preparing toparticipate in the Pioneer Trek that will take placelater this month.

As we prepare, my thoughts are turned to thosepioneers that went before us, and the hardshipthey faced and the way they persevered. And theway their faith was strengthened through theirhardships and willingness to strive to do theLords will. Some of us may wonder How wouldI have done? (I know I do all the time) I guessIm glad I didnt have to find out.

SisterShanna Masten has a wall in her kitchenthat is decorated with cooking utensils, namely skillets, from past generations of cooks in her family. They areneatly arranged on a beautiful shelf that was designed andmade especially for each individual skillet. Shanna has astory for each ancestor and their skillet. I bet she has afavorite recipes of theirs as well! It is a very interestingway to introduce her children to their genealogy andreally bring them to life.

Do you have any interesting collections or ways youintroduce your family to their heritage? If you do, let me know and we

can highlight your story here in the newsletter.

I'm doing great. I really do love this little branch. It is a lotmore like the stereotype SC that I initially thought of when Iread my call letter. I've met a couple of people that can'tread and write. That really caught me off guard. We have alot of great people that we are teaching and preparing forbaptism this month. It is awesome. We are going to Sumter,SC tomorrow to hear from Elder Nash, a general authority.I'm pretty excited about that. It is a two hour drive. I thinkwe will drive part way there tonight and stay with the

missionaries that we have to pick up on the way so we are alittle closer and don't have to wake up as early. I spoke in church last week. I have a feeling I willprobably give a few talks in this branch. They are taking great care of us. We are getting fed quitea bit. I'm doing really well and loving it out here. Time is really flying by. -- Elder Ward was servingin an area that had not had a baptism for over a year and a half. While he served there, they we lcomed 6 new membersinto the ward!

" The Activity Day Girls enjoyed an activity centeredaround the theme of the Wizard of Oz. The girls enjoyedhearing from each of the characters as they learned to have

courage, give a heart full of love, always strive for higherthoughts, and there is no place like home with our HeavenlyFather.! We are all so grateful for the hard work of those peoplewho make activities like these possible. We truly live in awonderful stake and ward!

Gearing Up for TrekThe Young Women tried their hand at upholstery as they made cushions for their trek buckets. Each girl cut fabric and foam to fit her lid and then stapled and drilled them to the lid. They will

be using these as seats and pillows out on thetrail. Arent they cute?

    UpAEvery year the Young Women

program starts the year by introducing thenew girls to the Personal Progress

program. This years program centeredaround standing in holy places.Savannah Long gave a touchingtestimony and really summed it up bysaying that the church and the temple areholy places, but they are not the holyplaces that matter most to us. WhereverWE stand is and should be a holy place toourselves and to those around us.! The decorations were truly a laborof love. The food was also very delicious. It was a great evening for all of ourbeautiful young women and their parents.
