1 Equipment

1.1 Cables

Primary Trunk Cable:

Central Region: 860QR(A) & 875P3 CIC(U)

Southern Region: 875P3(A) & 875P3 CIC(U)

Primary Feeder Cable:

Central Region: 540QR(A) & 625P3 CIC(U)

Southern Region: 625P3(A) & 625P3 CIC(U)

Notes:

-Cable inside of buildings will be designed with 500P3

-500 flex is an asbuilt feeder cable. Use only in design when communication came back from the field that

there are space challenges and cannot place standard coax.

-Ithaca nodes & Greene nodes 9-12 use Central Region cables, not Southern Region cables

1.3 Actives

Central Region - Auburn, Skaneateles, Spafford & Utica use FMB901 Amplifiers and FM331 Line Extenders. In

the Utica hub only, the first Amplifier placed off the node is a FMT901; then FMB901s will be placed

All remaining Central Region hubs use GNA601 Amplifiers & CCOR601 Line Extenders

Southern Region - Alfred & Bath use G4A828D40 Amplifiers & AMP0082001 Line Extenders. Norwich &

Jefferson use FMB901 Amplifiers, FM331TLC Thermal Line Extenders & FM331ALC AGC Line Extenders

Jamestown, Ellington, Clymer & Fredonia use FNB96CL Amplifiers, NL16CCJ Thermal Line Extenders,

NL14CCJ_ALC AGC Line Extenders

Ithaca & Cortland use GNA297/37 _46 Amplifiers, GNA197T_46.5 Thermal Line Extenders & GNA197A_46.5

AGC Line Extenders

Green nodes 1-8 and Avoca nodes 1-3 use GNA601 Amplifiers & CCOR601 Line Extenders

Avoca nodes 4-6 use FMB901 Amplifiers, FM331_TLC Thermal Line Extenders & FM331_ALC

Green nodes 9-12 use FM321G Amplifiers & FM601e_LE_A Line Extenders

All remaining Southern Region hubs use GNA601 Amplifiers and CCOR601 Line Extenders

New Mini Node Models: FTTM Pro Idiom Node Models: Lindsey 1Gig Plug In

6 Central New York Coax Design Specifications, Standards & Guidelines

1.4 Cascade

Cascade Limit: Follows Charter Enterprise Standard

Active Type Hierarchy: All new actives will be designed as AGCs. There will be no differentiation of Thermal,

Manual and AGC in cascade

Email Contact for out of Cascade Designs: [email protected], [email protected] &

your immediate supervisor

2 Powering

2.1 Power Supply Info

Power Supply Model: AL_XM3_18_90_2_SB

Power Supply Max Load: 80% or 14.4a out of 18

2.2 Power Supply Naming

i.e. BR104A

BR104 A

Node Name Unique alphabetic supply ID

2.3 Status Monitoring

Status monitoring will be represented with a SM cell from the feature manager. The DC power inserter must

be used for all status monitoring.

7 Central New York Coax Design Specifications, Standards & Guidelines

3 Customer Drops

3.1 Drop Codes

Syracuse builds RG6 off taps & deploys 2way, 3way or 4way RG splitters at the customer’s foundation. 8way

splitters will not be deployed in new builds

Drop Codes will be determined based off the distance from the tap to the customer, which will be taken

from the WOV

X Drop = 1-100’ Y Drop = 101’-150’ Z Drop = 151’-200’

Notes:

-Default to the ‘Standard’ or ‘STD’ drop if no drop distance is given (Generally same loss as X drop)

-A Drop cannot exceed corporate standard. Plant will need to be built out to the premises if a drop is greater

-If the WOV calls for RG cable other than RG6, then confirm with your Supervisor which drop code to use

(since the losses of the cable will be different per 100’)

-The Tap Window is set to 0 in the spec file, however up to a 3dB crossover is allowed

3.2 Utility Codes

Not used in this area.

4 Active Naming

4.1 Node Naming

i.e. BR10401A1413

BR104 01 A 1 413

Node name Node # Supply ID 1=SB, 2=Non SB supply Franchise Code

The Node # will always be 01. TWC will supply all new node names

Going forward you will have to request a node ID for any project outside of NYSBO county DID’s directly to

this DL: DL-CNY-NE-Regional-Design [email protected]

In other words, if it does not have a project name of “COUNTY NAME_ 1” , etc, you have to request a node ID.

We have had too many issues with the master node list not getting updated on BAU line extensions requiring

nodes. The Region is responsible for the integrity of node Id’s, billing updates, etc.

8 Central New York Coax Design Specifications, Standards & Guidelines

4.2 Active Naming

i.e. BR10402B2

BR104 02 B 2

Node name Active # Supply α Supply #

On Active Naming, the first 5 characters stay the same for every active (except on seg nodes)

The Active # is an arbitrary number for each active. This will increase with each active off the node. This does

not reset for every leg off the node or for each power supply

The Supply α is the alpha character of the PS that supplies power to the active

The Supply # is based on the PS that supplies power to the active, 1 for SB and 2 for non SB

5 Wifi Designs

Not done in this area.

9 Central New York Coax Design Specifications, Standards & Guidelines

6 Node Split/Node Segmentation

A minimum 60:40 percent of homes passed for new nodes, with a goal of 50:50 balanced homes passed.

• Ex. 1st port with 300 homes paused, 2nd port with 20 homes passed - Not approved

• Ex. 1st port with 160 homes passed, 2nd port with 160 homes is 50:50 - Goal reached

• Ex. 1st port with 192 homes, 2nd port with 128 homes is 60:40 – Approved

o There is not a governance on the maximum number of homes passed of a node.

o Design is authorized to add a new node on a segment to achieve a 60:40 split.

o Any variation from this rule requires approval from the Region VP of ISP and the VP of

Field Engineering.
