    1.4 Standard Features1.4.1 Communi atorThe control panel uses a built-in digitalcommunicator to send reports to the receiver. Itcan send reports in Contact ID, SIA 300, SIA 300with Text, Personal Dialing Format, and BasicPager Format.1.4.2 ZonesThe DS7240V2 supports up to 40 zones using on-board and off-board (including input expandersand wireless devices). The DS7240V2 supportsup to 5 DX2010 Input Expanders.

    The DS7220V2 supports up to 24 zones using on-board and off-board (including input expandersand wireless devices). The DS7220V2 supportsup to 3 DX2010 Input Expanders.On-board sensor loops are marked L-1 to L-8 onboth control panel types.

    1.4.3 Areas and A ountsThe DS7240V2 supports up to 4 independentareas. The DS7220V2 supports up to 2independent areas.All zones can be assigned to a single area, orspread out over the available areas.Users arm and disarm the control panel by area,and can arm and disarm several areas with onefunction. The installer can assign an authoritylevel to a PIN that allows a user to arm an areafrom a remote keypad in another area.Assigning each area its own account numbercreates separate accounts in one control panel.Assigning the same account number to differentareas groups them together into one account.Area options include exit tone and delay,separate fire and burglary outputs and autoopening and closing Skeds (see Sked Parameterson page 96 for more information).Area 1 can be programmed as a common area.SeeArming Options 2on page 63.A First to Open, Last to Close arming option isavailable (seeArming Options 2on page 63).1.4.4 Programmable OutputsFour on-board programmable outputs (PO 1 toPO 4) are available on both control panels.The DS7240V2 supports up to 20 programmableoutputs (4 on-board, 16 off-board using twoDX3010 Output Expanders).The DS7220V2 supports up to 12 programmable

    1.4.7 Alarm Event MemoryThe system uses alarm event memory to storealarm events for each area. You can view the areaalarm events at a keypad assigned to the area.The control panel clears the areas alarm eventmemory and starts storing new alarm eventswhen you arm the area. Alarm events are

    permanently stored in the control panels historylog.1.4.8 History LogThe system stores 254 events from all areas in itsevent log.Events can be stored even if the control paneldoes not send a report for them. You can viewthe log at a text keypad, print it locally using theDX4010i/DX4010 RS-232 Serial Interface Moduleand a serial printer, or upload it to the RemoteProgramming Software (RPS).1.4.9 Wireless (RF) Devi esThe control panel supports a variety of wirelesssensor devices, which can be included in the 40-zone maximum.

    2. System Installation andSetup2.1 Control Panel InstallationThe control panel and enclosure are shippedtogether. Hardware to attach the enclosure to thewall is not supplied.

    Only qualified, authorized servicepersonnel should install and maintainthis system. Test the entire system atleast once a week, and have aqualified technician check the systemat a minimum of once every threeyears.

    As this is permanently connectedequipment, a readily accessibledisconnect device shall be

    incorporated into the buildinginstallation wiring.

    The control panel contains static-sensitive components and must behandled with care. Follow anti-staticprocedures when handling it.

    Touch the control panels earthground terminal to discharge anystatic charge you may be carryingbefore working on it.

    2.1.1 Ele tro Magneti Interferen e (EMI)EMI might occur if you install the system or runsystem wires near any of the following: Computer network system Electrical lines, fluorescent fixtures, or

    telephone lines Amateur radio transmitter site Heavy machinery and motors High voltage electrical equipment or

    transformers PBX telephone system Public service (police, fire, etc.) using radio

    communications Radio station transmitter site or other

    broadcast station equipment Welding shop

    If you think that EMI could be a problem, useshielded cable. The drain wire for the shieldedcable must have continuity from the earth groundterminal on the control panel to the end of thewire run. If continuity is not maintained, theshielded cable can aggravate potential noiseproblems rather than eliminate them.

    Connecting the drain wire to ground at any placeother than the control panels earth groundterminal might also create problems. If you cutthe drain wire to install devices, be certain tosplice it together. Carefully solder and tape allsplices.2.1.2 En losure InstallationKnock out the desired wire entrances on the

    enclosure.Use the enclosure as a template and mark the topmounting holes on the mounting surface.Pre-start the screws (not supplied) for these

    holes.Place the enclosure onto these screws. See

    Figure 1.Tighten the screws.Screw in the remaining two screws into thebottom holes. See Figure 1.

    Use proper anchor and screw setswhen installing the enclosure onnon-load-bearing surfaces, such asdry wall.

    Use the screws provided to secure

    the enclosure cover (see Figure 1).

    2.1.3 Control Panel Board Installation1. Place the control panel board clips on the

    appropriate standoffs in the enclosure. SeeFigure 2.

    Slide the control panel board into the slots at thetop of the enclosure, and then secure it with thetwo screws provided. See Figure 2.2.1.4 Ground and Transformer Conne tion1. Connect the green/yellow earth ground wire

    from the earth ground stud to the controlpanel as shown in Figure 65 on page 129.

    2. Connect the orange and yellow wires fromthe transformer to the control panel as shownin Figure 65 on page 129.

    2.1.5 Mains Conne tionMake sure you have a good earthground before completing thefollowing steps.

    Follow all electrical codes when routing the ACMains power connection to the control panel.

    2.1.6 Standby Battery InstallationHigh current arcs are possible. Thered (+) battery lead and the controlpanels BATT + connector cancreate high current arcs if shorted toterminals or enclosure. Use caution

    when working with the red lead andthe control panels BATT +. Alwaysdisconnect the red lead from thebattery before removing the red leadfrom the control panel.

    Replace the standby battery every 3to 5 years under normal use.Exceeding the maximum outputratings, or connecting the controlpanel to an outlet that is routinelyswitched off, causes heavydischarges. Routine heavydischarges can lead to prematurebattery failure. Record the date ofinstallation directly on the battery.

    When the standby battery and the transformerconnections are made, the control panel chargesthe standby battery as you finish the installation.See Figure 3for details when installing thestandby battery.

    2. Install the jack on the street side of thephone switch, wired ahead of any PBXequipment. Line seizure temporarilyinterrupts normal phone usage while thecommunicator transmits data.

    3. Confirm that the panel seizes the line,acquires dial tone, reports correctly to thereceiver, and releases the phone line to thein-house phone system.

    2.1.9 Ground StartSome telephone systems require a momentaryground input to initiate a dial tone. To interfacewith a ground start system, wire PO 1 as shownin Figure 6. The PO 1 Jumper must be open.Program PO 1 for Ground Start. SeeProgrammable Output 1 (PO 1)on page 21 for

    programming instructions.Connect a proper earth groundreference to the earth groundterminal.

    Ground Start is not intended for usein fire or combined fire/burglaryapplications.

    2.1.10 Phone Line FaultThe control panel has a circuit that tests thephone line for voltage. The normal voltage on atelephone line is approximately 48 VDC (24 VDCfor some phone systems). The phone line monitorsenses trouble when the voltage drops lowenough (between 1 and 3 V).If the control panel senses trouble for 40 sec, itbegins a phone line trouble response.Programming determines the response type. SeePhone Line Fault Response Options in theDS7200V2 Expert Programming Guide(P/N:

    4998153891) for details.Bad line may test OK:The telephone line testcircuit uses the voltage level to test the status ofthe phone line. In some instances, a giventelephone line might be out of service withoutaffecting the voltage on the line. The phone linemonitor cannot recognize this trouble condition.

    2.1.11 Communi ation Failure (Comm Fail)The control panel routes reports to two routingdestinations. Each destination can beprogrammed with two phone numbers or IPaddresses.The numbers in {} are the numbers assigned tocontrol panel events.Communication Attempt Tableson page 123shows the circumstances when CommunicationFailure Events are created. When a Comm Failoccurs, the control panel responds as follows:1. Clear (dump) the initiating report and any

    pending reports from the dialer buffer for thedestination where the Comm Fail eventoccurred.

    2. Create a Comm Fail {69} or Alternate CommFail {70} report that includes the DestinationNumber (1 or 2). The Alternate Comm Failreport is used when an alternatecommunications path is used (for example,network communication).

    3. The Comm Fail, Comm Restoral {71},Alternate Comm Restore {72} reports followthe System Status Reports routing.

    4. If the Comm Fail occurred on Destination 1and System Status Reports routing is set toDestination 2 or set to Destination 2 onDestination 1 fail, then send Comm Failreport.

    5. If the Comm Fail occurred on Destination 1and System Status Reports routing is set toDestination 1 then send a Comm Restorereport with the next report for destination 1.

    6. If the Comm Fail occurred on Destination 2and System Status Reports routing is set toDestination 1, then send Comm Fail report.

    7. If the Comm Fail occurred on Destination 2and System Status Reports routing is set toDestination 2 then send a Comm Restorereport with the next report for Destination 2.

    8. If a Comm Fail report is sent successfully tothe other destination, a Comm Restore eventshould be sent when there is a successfulcommunication on the failed destination.

    2.2.4 Keyswit h OverviewYou can connect a maintained or momentarycontact arming device to arm or disarm any of theareas in the system. The keyswitch is connectedto an on-board or off-board zones sensor loop.The control panel offers a wide variety ofkeyswitch arming options. The default keyswitchconfiguration is tamper-wired. See ControlledKeyswitch Types in Zone FunctionConfiguration in the DS7200V2 ExpertProgramming Guide(P/N: 4998153891) foralternative keyswitch configurations.Outputs can be programmed to activate LEDs,sound alarm outputs, or activate strobes toindicate arming status for keyswitch armingstations.     2.2.6 Silen ing an Alarm with a Keyswit hMomentary Keyswit h:To silence alarms (stopAlarm output), operate the keyswitch. If the areais armed, operating the keyswitch to silence thealarm also disarms the area. If the area isdisarmed, operating a momentary keyswitch tosilence the alarm does not arm the area.Maintained Keyswit h:If the area is armed, turnthe keyswitch to the disarmed position. Thecontrol panel disarms the area and silences thealarm. If the area is disarmed, turn the keyswitchto the armed position (the control panel does notarm) and then return to the disarmed position.2.2.7 Exit Terminator ButtonWhen the Keyswitch Zone Function Options 1parameter (see Options 1, Zone Function ## inthe DS7200V2 Expert Programming Guide[P/N: 4998153891]) is set to 15, the inputfunctions as an exit terminator button. This zone

    function activates in the same manner as themomentary keyswitch. When Exit Delay is active,operating the exit terminator button terminatesExit Delay and immediately arms the controlpanel. If Chime Mode is enabled and Exit Delay isnot active, pressing the exit terminator buttonactivates the chime tone and the buttonfunctions as a doorbell.

    2.3 On-board Sensor Loop Setup2.3.1 OverviewThe control panel provides eight on-board sensorloops (L-1 to L-8). Each sensor loop operatesindependently and does not interfere with theoperation of the others.

    The default End-of-Line (EOL) resistor selectionfor the on-board sensor loops is the single alarmcontact tamper-wired configuration.See Global Zone Configuration in the DS7200V2Expert Programming Guide(P/N: 4998153891) tomodify the on-board sensor loop EOL resistorconfiguration.2.3.2 Tamper-Wired Zone ConfigurationThe on-board sensor loops can be used astamper-wired zones to report tamper conditionswhen the zone has become open or shorted.See Figure 15to wire a sensor loop as a tamper-

    2.3.3 Single Zone Configuration (Loops 1-8)When wiring the on-board sensor loops in thesingle zone configuration, install the resistor ofthe appropriate value (2.2 kresistors areprovided) at the far end of the sensor loop toprovide a reference for supervision. You canconnect dry contact sensing devices in series(Normally-Closed) and/or in parallel (Normally-Open) to any of these loops (see Figure 16).

    Loop resistance limits the number of Normally-Open and/or Normally-Closed detection devicesthat each sensor loop can supervise. The totalresistance for wire length and contacts, minusthe end-of-line resistor, must not exceed 100 .

    2.3.4 Doubled Zone ConfigurationWhen wiring the on-board sensor loops in thedoubled zone configuration, install the resistorsof the appropriate value (2.2 kand 3.65 k) asshown in Figure 17. The control panel can beconfigured to function with either Normally-Openor Normally-Closed contacts. Normally-Closed

    contacts are recommended.

    Each sensor loop is monitored as aseparate zone.

    2.6.5 DX2010 Tamper Input WiringEach DX2010 module provides an input fortamper devices. The tamper input is in additionto the zone sensor loops. Supervising anenclosure tamper does not occupy a zone. A faulton the tamper input is reported as a tamperevent to which the Data Bus address the DX2010

    is set.The tamper input can monitor external Normally-Closed (N/C) tamper switches when wired asshown in Figure 32. The tamper circuit must beclosed to provide proper Input Expander tampersupervision to the control panel. Do not use anEOL resistor.

    The DX2014 configuration includes a tamperspring. Do not use the DX2010 TMPR input in theDX2014 configuration.The DX2010s on-board tamper switch cannot beused when it is mounted inside the controlpanels enclosure (wire the tamper input asshown in Figure 33if installed in the controlpanels enclosure).If neither the tamper input nor the on-boardtamper switch is used, a wire must be placed asshown in Figure 33.

    Use either the tamper input or the on-boardtamper switch. Both cannot be usedsimultaneously.

    2.6.7 DX2010 Single EOL Zone WiringThe DX2010 supports both Normally-Open andNormally-Closed contacts in the single EOL zoneconfiguration.Use 2.2 kEOL resistors (P/N: 47819) whenwiring as shown in Figure 35.

    The Loop Response Time setting inthe Zone Function Configuration hasno effect on the DX2010. Its responsetime is configurable. See DX2010Configuration in the DS7200V2Expert Programming Guide(P/N:4998153891).

    The DX2010 cannot be used with two-wire smoke detectors.

    2.6.8 DX2010 Doubled Zone WiringFor the doubled sensor loop configuration, wireas shown in Figure 36. The loop response time ofdoubled sensor loops is fixed at 150 ms. Thecontrol panel can be configured to function witheither Normally-Open or Normally-Closedcontacts. Normally-Closed contacts are

    recommended.

    Each loop is monitored as a separatezone.

    2.6.11 DX2010 SupervisionThe control panel supervises communication tothe DX2010. If it fails to communicate with theDX2010, it sends a DBus Missing {125} report.

    2.7 Off-board Output Setup(DX3010)2.7.1 OverviewThe DX3010 Octo-Output Expander allows you toadd outputs to your system in groups of eight.The DS7240V2 supports up to 20 programmableoutputs (4 on-board, 16 off-board using twoDX3010 Output Expanders).The DS7220V2 supports up to 12 programmableoutputs (4 on-board, 8 off-board using oneDX3010 Output Expander).The DX3020 X-10 Interface Module allows thecontrol panel to control up to 16 X-10 modules.The DX3020 emulates up to 2 DX3010 modules.

    You can assign any of the programmable outputfunctions to the DX3010s individual outputsseparately. See Output Parameterson page 86 forprogramming details.Current Draw: 10 mA Standby plus 40 mA foreach energized output (relay) for a total of 330mA maximum with all eight outputs energized.See the DX3010 Installation Guide(P/N: 49529)for complete installation, addressing andoperating instructions.

    2.7.2 DX3010 Relay OutputsOutputs can activate when setting theDX3010s address DIP switches,programming the control panel,resetting the control panel or applyingpower to the control panel.Disconnect equipment connected tooutputs when performing thesefunctions.

    The DX3010 relay outputs are notsupervised and cannot be used in fireor combined fire/burglary installationsfor primary indicating devices.

    Each DX3010 output provides a Form C drycontact rated for 5.0 A at 28 VDC. Normally-Open, Common, and Normally-Closed terminalsare available for each relay output. When an

    individual output is activated, there is continuitybetween the Normally-Open and Commonterminals. When the output is not activated, thereis continuity between the Normally-Closed andCommon terminals.2.7.3 DX3010 Installation

    The DX3010 contains static-sensitivecomponents. Follow anti-staticprocedures when handling thismodule.

    You can install the DX3010 in the control panelsenclosure with the hardware supplied with the

    DX3010. See Figure 39.

    2.8 RS-232 Serial Interfa e Setup(DX4010i/DX4010)

    There are some board layoutdifferences between the DX4010i andthe DX4010. However, the twomodules wire, program, and operatethe same. The figures in this sectionshow the DX4010is board.

    2.8.1 OverviewBoth modules are RS-232 serial interfacemodules that connect a standard serial printer, orother serial device, to the control panel. They can

    also be used for a RPS local programming directconnection. The DX4010i is a DTE serial interfacemodule. Depending on which device you have,see the DX4010i Installation Guide(P/N:4998141106) or the DX4010 Installation Guide(P/N: 49539) for complete installation,addressing, and operating instructions.2.8.2 DX4010i/DX4010 Wiring

    These modules contain static-sensitive components. Follow anti-static procedures when handling thismodule.

    2.8.3 DX4010i/DX4010 RPS for Dire tConne tionClose the control panels InstallerSwitch before using the remoteprogramming direct connection.

    The module allows the user to program thecontrol panel, perform diagnostic functions, andretrieve history in RPS by using a directconnection between the module and the controlpanel.Follow these steps to connect directly to thecontrol panel for an RPS session:1. Set the modules address to Address 0 (zero).

    See Figure 46for correct DIP switchplacement. The DX4010 does not use DIPSwitches 7 and 8.

    P1 DB9 Cable Ground EnableSome devices connected to the DB9 connectorcan cause a ground fault condition on the controlpanel. If this occurs, removing the plug acrossthe P3 jumper pins can clear the groundcondition.Some devices can cause a ground fault even ifthe P3 jumper plug is removed.

    2.9.7 DX4020 SupervisionThe control panel supervises communication tothe DX4020 when it is used for networkcommunication. If it fails to communicate withthe DX4020, the control panel sends a DBus

    Missing {125} report, or a DBus Missing Alarm{187} report.

    2.10 Door A ess Control Module(DACM)2.10.1 DACM Overview

    The control panel supports up to 8DACMs. However, each DACM addedto the system replaces one keypad. If 8

    DACMs are added, you cannot add akeypad. For full system control, makesure at least one text keypad isincluded in the system.

    See DACM Configurationon page 105for programming instructions.

    The DACM grants or restricts access to a doorusing a keypad/credential reader, a Request toExit (REX) input, and/or a door contact. EachDACM supervises one door.The DACMs door contact input reports thedoors status to the control panel depending onthe DACMs programming. When the door isclosed, the door contact reports as normal. Whenthe door is opened, the door contact reports asfaulted or shorted.

    For complete installation,programming, addressing, andoperation instructions, see thedocumentation supplied with theDACM.

    2.10.2 DACM WiringDistance from the control panel is determined by

    the total combined wire length of all devices(including keypads) connected to the controlpanels data bus terminals.

    2.11 System Power UpThe system shows a trouble upon any power-upbecause the date and time settings are missing.This trouble remains until these settings aremade.

    To reduce the occurrence of false

    alarms upon panel power-up (orrestoration of power after a completeloss of primary and secondary power),the control panel ignores all zonefaults for approximately 60 sec whilethe devices stabilize.

    2.12 System Status LEDFigure 61shows the location of the controlpanels system status LED. Table 19shows theLEDs response to system conditions.

    2.13 Installer KeypadA text keypad can be configured as an InstallerKeypad.This keypad is not intended for permanentinstallation and must remain with theinstaller/service technician.

    Use the color-coded keypad wire assemblysupplied with the control panel (P/N: 15-04298-0000) to connect the Installer Keypad to thecontrol panels Aux/Data pins. See Figure 62.

    2.14 Installer ModeUse of the Installer PIN might berestricted. See Keypad ResponseOptionson page 75 for information onenabling/restricting the Installer PIN.

    When all areas configured in the control panel aredisarmed, the Installer Menu can be accessedfrom any LCD keypad by entering [InstallerPIN][#][4][1] or [#][4][1][Installer PIN].The default Installer PIN is 9876.Close the Installer Switch when using an InstallerKeypad.If any area configured in the control panel isarmed, only the Installer Keypad can access theInstaller Menu. After 20 min. of inactivity, theInstaller Menu is automatically exited. The controlpanel resets if it was in programming mode.If the Installer Switch is closed when the controlpanel powers up, the control panel completes itspower up. It then checks if there is an InstallerKeypad. If not, it finds the text keypad with thelowest address. The first keypad found is placedin the Installer Menu with installer rights, and the20-minute timer is started.If [8] is pressed to enter keypad programming,the control panel enters keypad programmingeven if keypad programming is disabled. Whenthe Installer Menu is exited, the control panelreverts to normal operation.

    2.15 Installer MenuThe Installer Menu consists of the followingchoices (the numbers preceding the descriptionsrepresent the keypad number key to press):1: Bell Test2: Strobe Test3: Battery Test4: Test Report5: Zone Status6: Output Test7: RF Menu

    8: Keypad Program9: Program Key (PK32)0: Call for ServiceThe following sections explain each menu choice.

    2.15.1 Bell TestPress [1] to initiate a Bell Test.The control panel activates the Bell Time (OutputFunction Type 1|5) and Alarm Output (OutputFunction Types 1|8 to 1|12, and 8|8) functions for3 sec.For a complete description of output functions,see Output Parameterson page 86.2.15.2 Strobe TestPress [2] to initiate a strobe test.The control panel activates the Strobe Outputfunctions and waits for the installer to press [#]to end the test. If the installer fails to press [#]within 20 min, the control panel automaticallyterminates the strobe test.2.15.3 Battery TestPress [3] to initiate a battery test.The battery test causes the system to run on

    battery for 4 min.. If the battery voltage fallsbelow 12.1 V during the 4-minute test, or if thebattery is missing, the system restores AC powerand displays a system trouble at all keypads.2.15.4 Test ReportPress [4] to send a test report.The control panel attempts to send a test report.If there is a system trouble at the time of the test,the control panel sends a Test, Off Normalreport.If the test communication is unsuccessful, thecontrol panel creates a system trouble and a

    communication failure.2.15.5 Zone StatusPress [5] to display zone/sensor loop status forthe first location in the system.The location, zone number and electrical status(Open, Short, Normal, or Fault) are shown. SeeZone Parameterson page 80 for a completedescription of the relationship between locations,areas and zones.Press [*] to advance to the status for the nextzone. Press [#] to exit the Zone Status mode.

    A closed DACM door contact displaysas Normal. If Use Tamper-WiredProcessing is enabled in DACMGlobal Options(page 107), an opendoor contact displays as Fault. Ifthis option is disabled, an open doorcontact displays as Short.
