• Orientation program• Mandatory competencies for all staff• Continuing education for all staff

• Administrator! – the WHAT?????– I had no clue what I’d just been given responsibility for or where it would lead

What did we do wrong?
• Lack of communication• Overthinking and yet not thinking• Too much text• Worked for the Educators (initially)
• BUT NOT FOR THE STAFF

What did we do right?
• We took a step back• We “talked” with our staff– and we listened!
• We got rid of the box• We make moodle fit us –not the other way around!• we work out what we want the result to be, then find a
way to make moodle give us what we want

How?
• Limited budget• Core moodle with a few extras• Never accept “moodle can’t do that”– Rolling enrolment
• Continually evolving– Sometimes by choice– Sometimes being dragged along with upgrades

On-going communication
• Forums as communication pathways• Force in / opt out
• Feedback module• Course not “complete” unless feedback submitted• Monitored by Educators for each course• Drives improvements in each course
• Access to moodle administrator– Email, phone, moodle message

Engaging staff…..continually
• Education, education and yet more education– Monthly help session at main campus– Assistance at other locations as requested– One-on-one help– FAQ
• Availability• Feedback module• Change of attitude/culture
– Need to assist with “computer” before moodle– Staff who required assistance, felt empowered
