joy that extra hour of sleep!

until 7:00p.m., shortly after progress reports are issued. This is a great

opportunity to discuss your child(ren)’s progress reports and address

any questions or concerns that you might have regarding your child’s

education. Teachers will send home additional information regarding

portant day in our history. We will be having an assembly on Friday, November 9th at 10:30a.m.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

For the last 4 years, our members of Central School have been travelling to Flint, Michigan to support on of the most

impoverished cities in North America. It started with the water crisis, when our students decided that M. Martin should

drive 100 cases of water there...so we did. We are now collecting gently used clothing, personal hygiene items and

school supplies and will be taking them in the middle of November. Please bring these items to the office at your earli-

est convenience.

FRONT PARKING LOT SAFETY

We are asking that students, under no circumstances walk across our front parking lot after school. We have cars com-

ing and going throughout the day. Your child’s safety is very important to us. Please remind your child(ren) to walk

through the school or the back playground, rather than across the front parking lot after school.

We understand that our front parking lot presents some difficulty with parking at times,

however we are asking parents to NOT park in front of the entrance doors, at any time.

In effort to assist parents, we have designated the 2 parking spots closest to the office

for parents to use when picking up students or dropping off items. The area directly in

front of the main entrance is a “KISS AND RIDE” area only (meaning you will briefly stop

to let children exit your vehicle and then continue driving). Parking in front of the office

presents difficulty for other vehicles to pass and also creates a blind spot for any pedes-

trians that may be walking up to the office. As the weather starts getting more sloppy,

this is even more important for safety.

Thank you for your cooperation.

P.A. Day on Friday, November 16th. - NO SCHOOL

BOOK FAIR

Central school will be having the first Book Fair of this year. This fair is focused on books in French, to help our students

expand their knowledge and interest in this great language. The book fair will be held in the library on Tuesday, No-

vember 20th to Friday, November 23rd. Parents are welcome to visit the fair before school at 8:30a.m. or after school

until 4:30p.m. Students will be given the opportunity to go the book fair during breaks each day.

Be sure to check the LOST AND FOUND before it

gets donated on November 16th!!

GETTING READY FOR MARY POPPINS JR.!

This year Central French Immersion will be presenting Mary Poppins Jr. (English ver-

sion). We are very excited to be getting started. Our cast will be made up of grade 4

through 8 students, along with a primary choir. Students will have an information

session on Monday, November 26th during first break to learn a more about the play

and general expectation of cast members. Auditions will follow that week on

Wednesday, November 28th and Friday, November 30th.

Look for additional information to come home later this month.

Remembrance Day - Honour Roll Slideshow Once again this year, Central will be presenting our Honour Roll at the Remembrance Day ceremony on Fri-

day, November 9th. We will be presenting the same Honour Roll as last year and we are putting a call out to

all new and existing families who may not have contributed to the Honour Roll in the past. If you have a

loved one who served in the military and would like them recognized in our Honour Roll on Remembrance Day, Please

send the information and photo to Mme Arsenault-Howick via email [email protected] by Wednes-

day, November 7th in order for it to be included in this year’s Honour Roll.

EcoNewsletter Items - November

Défi de déjeuners sans déchets

To kick of Waste Reduction Week (October 15-19) at Central, all students participated in the Défi de déjeuners sans déchets to help

reduce the amount of waste brought to school in school lunches! Overall we saw a great improvement with the number of waste-

free lunches that students brought to school. We would love for this to continue throughout the year and beyond.

Central is working towards a Fourth consecutive year of Platinum status (the highest) for Ontario EcoSchools certification. Waste

Reduction is one of the categories through which we can achieve Platinum status again this year.

Top classes in each division for the highest average percentage of waste-free lunches for the week will be presented at our Charac-

ter & EcoAssembly on November 6th.

Our goal is to have students continue bringing waste-free lunches to school and boomerang (bring back home) any compost back

for disposal in green bins at home. Thank you to all parents for your support with this.

Tips for at home:

Here is a handy Fridge Reminder for parents to use to help go waste-free at school.

Another way to reduce waste from school lunches is to boomerang (send back) any waste or uneaten products back home each day.

Congratulations to all students for doing your part to go waste-free with your lunches during Waste Reduction Week! Let’s keep it

up, Stingrays!

Central’s Great Book Exchange

As an innovative part of Waste Reduction Week, the MetoWe club at Central held our second ever Great Book Exchange! Over 600

books were exchanged and/or bought by students. This was a great way for students to reuse books and spend time reading at the

same time! Money raised from this MetoWe EcoInitiative will go towards Makerspace and our Musical this year.

Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup

To conclude Waste Reduction week, Students in 8A & 8M participated in the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup on October 19th.

Over 350 pieces of garbage were collected from Forty Mile Creek at Coronation Park. Students collected 105 kg of garbage and 9

kg of recycling in about an hour - that’s just under 2kg of waste per minute!

Some of the most interesting items include:

We are looking forward to analyzing the data and looking for trends among the items collected to drive our Water Action Inquiry

project to help protect our area watershed.

This EcoAction will also help us work towards maintaining our Platinum status for Ontario EcoSchools for a third year.

Écofierté!

ME TO WE UPDATE

Me to We Spirit Days

Wednesday, November 21st is our next Me to We Spirit Day - Jersey day! Please help show your Central School Spirit by wearing a sports jersey that day. Join us in a jersey of your favourite professional sports team, a team you have played for or any sports themed clothing. Glasses day in October was a huge success! We hope to have just as much fun with Jersey Day on the 21st!

Wednesday, November 28th is our first Eco-Spirit Day of the year! We are turning down the heat slightly in order to conserve energy. This eco-act helps with our quest to become a platinum certified Eco School once again this year! In order to participate in this event, we ask that you wear a blue or green sweater to show your eco-school spirit. Your blue or green sweater will help to keep you warm when the heat is down and will also show how our Central Stingrays care about the environment!

ACTUAL PHOTO FROM GROWER

Poinsettia and Mini Christmas Tree Winter Fundraiser

Central is very excited to be partnering with Hendrik’s Greenhouses, to be able

to offer this great fundraiser! This year we are changing things up a little, we

are still selling 8 inch pots of poinsettia’s in red, pink and white, AND we are

selling Mini Spruce Christmas Trees (approx. 1.5ft tall) These beautiful flowers

and trees will be available for sale from Monday, November 5th until Monday,

November 26th. Due to ordering, we cannot accept late orders. All flowers

and trees will be delivered to the school gym, where they will be available for

pick up on Tuesday, December 4th between 2:00p.m. and 6:30p.m. in the

gym. Orders will be organized by student names.

Anyone who bought poinsettias last year will tell you, these are amazing, large, beautiful flowers! We had sample trees

in the office last year, they are a perfect desk/table top decoration that you can plant in the spring! You will not be dis-

appointed!

All students will be given an order form on Monday, November 5th to enable them to sell to family and/or neighbours.

We are also excited to be able to offer this fundraiser on cash online, open to the public. So now anyone can go onto

cash online, using our school website, to be able to purchase poinsettias or trees. This will allow people to purchase

using their credit card, if they would prefer.

WE NEED LIBRARY VOLUNTEERS!

Mme Grayson is looking for a few parent volunteers who would be willing to help re-shelf books that have been returned the office throughout the week. If you are interested please contact the office 905-945-5459
