Returning to Colombia on 3 & 4 October and now in its 10th year, Capacity Central America & Andean 2018 provides an opportunity to meet and connect with over 250 C-Level executives, influencers and industry leaders from the Central American & Andean regions to discuss latest market developments, renew yearly business deals and forge new partnerships.

WHY COLOMBIA?Colombia is a market that continues to grow year-on-year and Bogotá is one of the most prominent hubs for telecoms in the region.

Since 2010 internet usage has grown exponentially in Colombia, from 2.2 million to 9.9 million in 2017. Simultaneously, in the last few years there has been a major increase in the number of submarine cables, from 5 to 9 covering both the Pacific and Atlantic coasts. Additionally, the number of households with internet access has grown nationwide from 17 percent to 50 percent.

“Capacity Central America & Andean 2018, is an event where carriers can discuss the radical transformation in the telecommunications industry, the increasingly rapid changes and the emergence of new players in the industry. This event is a key platform to define business strategy and identify new opportunities and new ways of doing business”

Undergoing continuous innovation is fundamental to stay relevant in the age of digital transformation. Most recently, key regional players have focused on expanding their regional footprint by increasing investment on new infrastructure, opting to boost their M&A activity and diversifying their products. Simultaneously, price erosion is a key concern and many carriers are rethinking strategies to maximise the use of their capacity and as a result alternative business models have emerged. In this regard, the wholesale telecoms sector has enjoyed an unprecedented dynamism across the region. This session, will assess new business models, demand of regional services, emerging technology hubs and opportunities to invest. 12:05PM INTERACTIVE PANEL DISCUSSION: HOW IS THE ANDEAN REGION STAYING CONNECTED? The Andean region covers over 4,726,000 km2 and most recently has experienced a boost in infrastructure investment. With new cables planned across the region and demand doubling every year, the Andean region is undergoing a much-needed period of significant digital transformation. For instance, according to Akamai’s “State of the Internet Report” the current average connection speed ranges from 1.8 Mbps and 6.2 Mbps, with the highest for the continent being 18.7 Mbps. Consequently, more emphasis needs to be placed on enabling investment in backbone network infrastructure and an increase in the number of submarine cables covering the Pacific coast to raise high speed connectivity to world-class levels. As a result, these changes will play a fundamental role in boosting average connection speeds and closing the digital gap. This panel will discuss the current trends in internet usage, an overview of the digital landscape and industry updates. Camilo Mier, VP of Sales - Andean Region, C&W NETWORKS Luis Carlos Guerrero, Sales VP – Andean Cluster, CENTURYLINK Ricardo Jara Recabarren, Capacity & Carrier Services Director, ENTEL
