GENERAL

1. THE CONTRACTOR IS REQUIRED TO HIRE A PRIVATE THIRD PARTY TO MARK ALLPRIVATE UNDERGROUND UTILITIES. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CONTACT MISSUTILITY AT LEAST 3 WORKING DAYS IN ADVANCE OF THE PLANNED WORK TOALLOW TIME FOR MARKING. ALL MARKS MUST BE RESPECTED AND PROTECTED.CONTRACTOR SHALL EXHIBIT CARE WHILE EXCAVATING. UTILITY MARKINGSSHALL BE PAID FOR BY THE CONTRACTOR.

2. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SITE SECURITY AND JOB SAFETY.CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH OSHA STANDARDSAND LOCAL REQUIREMENTS.

3. AREAS DISTURBED DURING CONSTRUCTION AND NOT RESTORED WITHIMPERVIOUS SURFACES (BUILDINGS, PAVEMENTS, WALKS, ETC.) SHALL FOLLOWDETAIL PROVIDED BY VIRGINIA EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL HANDBOOKFOR SITE SPECIFIC SEEDING MIXTURES IN ACCORDANCE WITH STANDARD &SPECIFICATION 3.32.

4. UPON AWARD OF CONTRACT, CONTRACTOR SHALL MAKE NECESSARYCONSTRUCTION NOTIFICATIONS AND APPLY FOR AND OBTAIN NECESSARYPERMITS, PAY FEES, AND POST BONDS ASSOCIATED WITH THE WORKINDICATED ON THE DRAWINGS, IN THE SPECIFICATIONS, AND IN THE CONTRACTDOCUMENTS. DO NOT CLOSE OR OBSTRUCT ROADWAYS, SIDEWALKS, AND FIREHYDRANTS, WITHOUT APPROPRIATE PERMITS.

5. AREAS OUTSIDE THE LIMITS OF PROPOSED WORK DISTURBED BY THECONTRACTOR'S OPERATIONS SHALL BE RESTORED BY THE CONTRACTOR TOTHEIR ORIGINAL CONDITION AT THE CONTRACTOR'S EXPENSE.

6. IN THE EVENT THAT SUSPECTED CONTAMINATED SOIL, GROUNDWATER, ANDOTHER MEDIA ARE ENCOUNTERED DURING EXCAVATION AND CONSTRUCTIONACTIVITIES BASED ON VISUAL, OLFACTORY, OR OTHER EVIDENCE, THECONTRACTOR SHALL STOP WORK IN THE VICINITY OF THE SUSPECT MATERIALTO AVOID FURTHER SPREADING OF THE MATERIAL, AND SHALL NOTIFY THEOWNER IMMEDIATELY SO THAT THE APPROPRIATE TESTING AND SUBSEQUENTACTION CAN BE TAKEN.

7. CONTRACTOR SHALL PREVENT DUST, SEDIMENT, AND DEBRIS FROM EXITINGTHE SITE AND SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR CLEANUP, REPAIRS ANDCORRECTIVE ACTION IF SUCH OCCURS.

8. DAMAGE RESULTING FROM CONSTRUCTION LOADS SHALL BE REPAIRED BY THECONTRACTOR AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO OWNER.

9. CONTRACTOR SHALL CONTROL STORMWATER RUNOFF DURING CONSTRUCTIONTO PREVENT ADVERSE IMPACTS TO OFF SITE AREAS, AND SHALL BERESPONSIBLE TO REPAIR RESULTING DAMAGES, IF ANY, AT NO COST TOOWNER.

UTILITIES

1. THE LOCATIONS, SIZES, AND TYPES OF EXISTING UTILITIES ARE SHOWN AS ANAPPROXIMATE REPRESENTATION ONLY. THE OWNER OR IT'SREPRESENTATIVE(S) HAVE NOT INDEPENDENTLY VERIFIED THIS INFORMATIONAS SHOWN ON THE PLANS. 5. CONTRACTOR SHALL MAKE ARRANGEMENTS FOR AND SHALL BE RESPONSIBLEFOR PAYING FEES FOR POLE RELOCATION AND FOR THE ALTERATION ANDADJUSTMENT OF GAS, ELECTRIC, TELEPHONE, FIRE ALARM, AND ANY OTHERPRIVATE UTILITIES, WHETHER WORK IS PERFORMED BY CONTRACTOR OR BYTHE UTILITIES COMPANY.

6. UTILITY PIPE MATERIALS SHALL BE AS FOLLOWS, UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTEDON THE PLAN:

A. WATER PIPES SHALL BE DR 18 C900 PVC PIPE FOR PIPES GREATER THAN 2"DIAMETER. WATER PIPES LESS THAN OR EQUAL TO 2" DIAMETER SHALL BETYPE "K" COPPER.

B. SANITARY SEWER PIPES SHALL BE SDR 26 PVC PIPE OR CLASS 52 DUCTILEIRON. ALL SANITARY SEWER DUCTILE IRON SHALL BE LINED WITH PROTECTO401 OR APPROVED EQUAL.

C. STORM DRAINAGE PIPES SHALL BE CLASS III REINFORCED CONCRETE PIPE(RCP) OR SDR 25 PVC PIPE

7. ALL DRAINAGE AND SANITARY STRUCTURE INTERIOR DIAMETERS (4' MIN.) SHALLBE DETERMINED BY THE MANUFACTURER BASED ON THE PIPECONFIGURATIONS SHOWN ON THESE PLANS AND LOCAL MUNICIPALSTANDARDS. FOR MANHOLES THAT ARE 20 FEET IN DEPTH AND GREATER, THEMINIMUM DIAMETER SHALL BE 5 FEET.

LAYOUT AND MATERIALS

1. DIMENSIONS ARE FROM THE FACE OF CURB, FACE OF BUILDING, FACE OF WALL,AND CENTER LINE OF PAVEMENT MARKINGS, UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.

2. CURB RADII ARE FIVE FEET TO FACE OF CURB UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.

3. CURBING SHALL BE CAST IN PLACE WITHIN THE SITE UNLESS OTHERWISEINDICATED ON THE PLANS.

4. ANY PROPERTY LINE MONUMENTATION DISTURBED DURING CONSTRUCTIONSHALL BE SET OR RESET BY A PROFESSIONAL LICENSED SURVEYOR.

5. PRIOR TO START OF CONSTRUCTION, CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY EXISTINGPAVEMENT ELEVATIONS AT INTERFACE WITH PROPOSED PAVEMENTS, ANDEXISTING GROUND ELEVATIONS ADJACENT TO DRAINAGE OUTLETS TO ASSUREPROPER TRANSITIONS BETWEEN EXISTING AND PROPOSED FACILITIES.

DEMOLITION

1. CONTRACTOR SHALL DISPOSE OF DEMOLITION DEBRIS IN ACCORDANCE WITHAPPLICABLE FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL REGULATIONS, ORDINANCES ANDSTATUTES.

2. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL APPLY FOR AND OBTAIN THE NECESSARY PERMITSFROM THE NORFOLK HEALTH DEPARTMENT IF A COMMERCIAL BULKRECEPTACLE IS USED FOR COLLECTION OF CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS. ALLTEMPORARY BULK WASTE CONTAINERS PLACED IN THE RIGHT-OF-WAYREQUIRE A PERMIT FROM THE DIVISION OF RIGHT-OF-WAY, 664-7306.

3. THIS DEMOLITION PLAN IS INTENDED TO AID THE CONTRACTOR DURING THEBIDDING AND CONSTRUCTION PROCESS AND IS NOT INTENDED TO DEPICT EACHAND EVERY ELEMENT OF DEMOLITION. THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FORIDENTIFYING THE DETAILED SCOPE OF DEMOLITION.

EROSION CONTROL

1. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE FULLY RESPONSIBLE TO CONTROL CONSTRUCTIONSUCH THAT SEDIMENTATION SHALL NOT AFFECT REGULATORY PROTECTEDAREAS, WHETHER SUCH SEDIMENTATION IS CAUSED BY WATER, WIND ORDIRECT DEPOSIT.

2. CONTRACTOR SHALL PERFORM CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCING SUCH THATEARTH MATERIALS ARE EXPOSED FOR A MINIMUM AMOUNT OF TIME BEFORETHEY ARE COVERED, SEEDED OR OTHERWISE STABILIZED TO PREVENTEROSION.

3. UPON COMPLETION OF CONSTRUCTION AND ESTABLISHMENT OF PERMANENTGROUND COVER, CONTRACTOR SHALL REMOVE AND DISPOSE OF EROSIONCONTROL MEASURES AND CLEAN SEDIMENT AND DEBRIS FROM ENTIREDRAINAGE AND SEWER SYSTEMS.

INCIDENTAL CONCRETE

1. ALL CONCRETE SHALL BE CLASS "A-4" AIR ENTRAINED (4,000 PSI) INACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 217 OF THE 2016 VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OFTRANSPORTATION ROADS AND BRIDGE SPECIFICATIONS UNLESS OTHERWISESPECIFIED.

2. CURB AND GUTTER SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED IN SECTIONS OF UNIFORMLENGTHS, APPROXIMATELY TEN (10') FEET (NO SECTIONS SHALL BE LESS THANSIX FEET). EXPANSION JOINTS SHALL BE FORMED AT INTERVALS OF ONEHUNDRED FEET (100') USING 1/2" PREMOLDED BITUMINOUS FIBER JOINT FILLER.EXPANSION JOINTS ARE REQUIRED AS FOLLOWS:

3. WHEN THE CONTRACT0R WORK REQUIRES THE SAWCUTTING AND/OR PARTIALDEMOLITION AND/OR REMOVAL OF ANY SECTION OF AN EXISTING APRON ORSIDEWALK, THE CONTRACTOR WILL BE REQUIRED TO REMOVE SAID EXISTINGAPRON OR SIDEWALK AND REPLACE IT WITH A NEW MONOLITHIC APRON ORSIDEWALK. SIDEWALK SHALL BE REMOVED TO THE NEAREST JOINT. ALLCONCRETE IS TO BE SAWCUT. NO PATCHING WILL BE ALLOWED. COMMERCIALAPRONS SHALL BE REPLACED WITH APPROVED COMMERCIAL APRON.RESIDENTIAL APRONS SHALL BE REPLACED WITH AN APPROVED RESIDENTIALAPRON.

DRAINAGE

1. TEMPORARY DRAINAGE DURING CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE PROVIDED BY THECONTRACTOR TO RELIEVE AREAS THAT MAY CAUSE DAMAGE TO ROADWAYS ASDIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER OR THE CITY OF NORFOLK, VIRGINIA.

2. ALL PROPOSED STORM DRAINAGE STRUCTURES SHALL UTILIZE VDOT STD. IS-1INLET SHAPING WITH PAVED INVERTS, UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED ON THEPLANS FOR EACH STRUCTURE.

3. ALL CONCRETE STORM SEWER PIPES IN THE CITY RIGHT-OF-WAY ANDEASEMENTS SHALL BE TONGUE AND GROOVE. STORM SEWER PIPES SHALL BEREINFORCED PIPE AND SHALL CONFORM TO THE SPECIFICATION FORCONCRETE SEWER PIPE AASHTO DESIGNATION M170. ALL PIPE JOINTS SHALLBE SEALED IN ACCORDANCE WITH VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATIONROAD AND BRIDGE SPECIFICATIONS.

4. ALL CONCRETE STORM PIPE JOINTS SHALL BE COMPLETELY WRAPPED WITHTWO-FOOT WIDE APPROVED FILTER FABRIC CENTERED ABOUT THE JOINT ANDSECURED IN PLACE PRIOR TO BACKFILLING.

PROJECT PHASES

PHASE 1 - TRENCH DRAIN IMPROVEMENTS.

PHASE 2 - DRAIN BEHIND CURB, IS A DEDUCTIVE ALTERNATE. ONCE PHASE 1 ISCOMPLETE, THE OWNER WILL RE-EVALUATE THE SITE AFTER THE FIRSTSIGNIFICANT RAINFALL. IF ADDITIONAL REMEDIATION IS REQUIRED, PHASE2 WILL BE AUTHORIZED. (SEE DEDUCTIVE BID ALTERNATE 2)
