Centennial High School IB Diploma Program www.cnusd.k12.ca.us/centennial-hs/ TOK 11th Grade: 2nd semester 12th Grade: 1st semester • Each candidate must submit for assessment one essay of at least 1,200 words in length, but not exceeding 1,600 words. • Each candidate must make one or more individual and/or small group oral presentation to the class during the course, and complete the presentation planning and marking forms (Form TK/PPD and Form TK/PMF). • e teacher must also complete the relevant section of Form TK/PMF. e presentation must be an integral part of the theory of knowledge course. CAS Students are required to: • 150 hours in total, with a reasonable balance between creativity, action and service • Self review at the beginning of their CAS experience and set personal goals for what they hope to achieve through their CAS programme • Plan, do and reflect (plan activities, carry them out and reflect on what they learned) • Undertake at least one interim review and a final review with their CAS adviser • Take part in a range of activities, including at least one project, some of which they have initiated themselves, keep records of their activities and achievements, including a list of the principal activities undertaken EXTENDED ESSAY Compulsory for all DP students • Externally assessed and, in combination with the grade for theory of knowledge, contributes up to three points to the total score for the IB diploma • A piece of independent research/investigation on a topic chosen by the student in cooperation with a supervisor in the school • Chosen from the list of approved DP subjects, published in the Vade Mecum • Presented as a formal piece of scholarship containing no more than 4,000 words • About 40 hours of work concludes with a short interview, or viva voce, with the supervisor GROUP 1 -- LANGUAGE A1 Language Arts is required for all 4 years. Exams contain: Paper 1 – a timed multiple choice portion that must be performed without the use of a calculator. Paper 2 – a timed free response portion requiring the responses to 4 – 6 questions Paper 3 – a free response portion pertaining to specialized fields of study in each discipline. GROUP 5 -- MATHEMATICS 9th Grade: Geometry / Algebra 2 10th Grade: Algebra 2 / Pre calculus 11th Grade: Pre calculus / Calculus AB / Math Studies SL 12th Grade: IB Math SL or HL / Math Studies SL Mathematics HL e course consists of the study of six core topics and one option topic. Total 240 hrs. Core syllabus content 190 hrs. All topics in the core are compulsory.
