In our membership vows, we promise “to serve Jesus Christ through the ministries of the

United Methodist Church” first with our prayers. Please brothers and sisters…serve Him

well in June!

Praying for the Days to Come

The next few weeks are a critical time for Kentucky United Methodism…

and for us at Centenary. On Monday, June 8, the delegates will assemble

in Bowling Green for the start of the Kentucky Annual Conference. In

addition to the work we normally do, we will select five clergy and five laity

to represent us at the 2016 General Conference of The United Methodist

Church . We will then select a like number to join those ten at the South-

eastern Jurisdictional Conference at Lake Junaluska later that year. We

definitely need to be praying for all the events of annual conference –

including the election of delegates.

Upon conclusion of our annual conference meeting, Rev. Paul Fryman –

known to many long-time Centenary family members as he was once a

member of this church – will assume his responsibility of serving as the

district superintendent for what will be known (until late August) as the

“Tan” District (after the color coded map used to draw the new district

lines). I know he covets your prayers.

On Tuesday, June 9, our youth mission team will be leaving for the Domin-

ican Republic. They will be there until June 16. They will be engaged in

several different projects during that time period. Prayer will be so im-

portant to their ministry.

During the month of June, our Trustees will be engaged in some serious

work at the parsonage. Prayers for wisdom and patience on the part of all

involved would be much appreciated.

On June 22, we will host our Vacation Bible School and Youth Middle

School Week. This is a major outreach into our community for our children

and a time of helping new members of the youth group get assimilated into

an awesome group. We want to be praying for bridges to be built and

connections to be made.

Are you sensing a theme here? We need to be praying for God to have

His way at Centenary; to use us for His glory; to guide our leaders and all

serving in ministry.

You may not be representing Centenary at annual conference. You may

never be a district superintendent. You may not even know someone

going on our mission trip. You may not know where the parsonage is.

You may not be directly involved in Vacation Bible School, but your pray-

ers make a difference in the effectiveness of all of these events and more.

Please be faithful in praying for them.

CYF Trip to Cedar Point August 1—3 The Children’s Ministry team has been super busy

with getting the children’s area cleaned, organized

and ready so we can get started on updating that

area to make it more inviting for the kiddos. We

have received two out of the four quotes and are

waiting for the rest to come in.

We have been in the planning process for VBS

which the theme will be” Son Spark Labs” This will

begin on June 22-25 from 6-8pm this is going to

be a hands on learning experience for the kids and

we are very excited about teaching Gods love. Eve-

rything is coming along!! The whole team is very

excited about this years VBS.

We are also in the midst of planning for the sum-

mer and one of our plans is having three nights

that will be open to the public to invite families to

watch movies on the front lawn. We are still in the

planning process with dates and times.

The Mother’s Day treat—“Muffins for Moms” —went

really great Sunday in the fellowship hall. We have

already planned a Father’s day treat —Donuts for

Dads—for the dads which will be on Father’s Day

Sunday in the Fellowship hall during coffee time.

Church Council Meeting Minutes

April 20, 2015

* - Kim Aitken * - Matt Bell * - Tracy Bertram

* - Mark Burks * - Vance Burnett - Kay Burney

* - Larry Crouch * - Glen Dreher * - Donald Durden

- Jeff Gaither - Emily Henderson * - Trisha Hobbs

- Meg Hughes - Holly Husband * - Willard Knipp

* - Sarah Krauss

- Connect/Evangelism chair (vacant)

- Send/Missions chair (vacant)

* - Denotes those in attendance

Larry Crouch called the meeting to order at 6:41 in Holly Husband’s absence.

Kim Aitken shared a brief devotion from her daily reading. The passage was Mark 16:6. The thought she left with us

to reflect on was, “How has Christ’s resurrection impacted your life?”

Larry Crouch then asked for a time of sharing blessings around the room. Prayer concerns included the family and stu-dents at Collins that are grieving the death of Keaton McMurray, safety for students attending prom for both high schools this coming weekend, and the need to have a system in place to get children out of the DRC. Shared praises

included a granddaughter’s birthday, the movement in the DRC to let children out the past two weeks, a good update for Sarah Bell with only two weeks remaining until the baby’s due date, and a student-led memorial service at Collins after school today for Keaton McMurray. Larry then closed the time with prayer.

Larry then asked that the minutes of the March 16, 2015 meeting and the February 24, 2015 vote record both be ap-proved. Tracy Bertram made a motion that both minutes/records be accepted as submitted. Glen Dreher seconded the motion and both were approved.

Larry next asked that we address the Consent Agenda Reports. Reports from Serve/Congregational Care Team, Mem-

bership Care, and the Children’s Council were all available in the room as they were not in the original sent report. Mark Burks made a motion that the Consent Agenda Reports be accepted with the additional reports. Glen Dreher se-conded the motion and the Consent Agenda Reports were accepted.

Larry next moved to Discussion Items.

Larry Crouch asked for an update from the Finance Committee. Tracy Bertram reported that the committee

had met last Monday and had no action items to bring to the council. They are waiting for the Trustees for

the amount of the repairs at the parsonage. Groups are developing a plan for disbursal of funds; i.e. Red-

woods, Bible Class, Children’s Ministries, and Youth Ministries. Tracy also reported that Donald Durden has

a meeting scheduled tomorrow with Michael Watts concerning the audit of the church books.

Donald Durden spoke next about the Treasurer’s Report. He stated that March was a very good giving

month. The youth savings account had $ 60,284 as a balance prior to payments being made for the up-

coming mission trip; so the balance is now down to $ 25,237.

Church Council Minutes Cont. Page 2

The Easter offering had been $ 695 but additional money was received yesterday so the total is now $ 2,270. He is going to write checks to distribute this between the three ministries...Redbird Mission, Impact Shelby, and the Blessing Home.

Larry Crouch next asked Vance Burnett to speak from the Trustees Committee. Vance stated that the committee has several ongoing efforts. They have allocated B-Dry to do the waterproofing at the parson-age but due to current busy workload, it may be several weeks before B-Dry is available to get any work done. The Trustees had signed a contract with Republic to provide the church dumpster service. Waste Management will pick up their dumpster by May 7th and Republic will bring their dumpster on May 9th. Vance stated that he did not yet have an update on Early Environmental on possible mold in two buildings. Vance stated that he has not heard anything further on tuck-pointing.

Larry Crouch next asked Willard for his Pastor’s Report. Willard Knipp first asked about payment for the storage Pod at the parsonage as it was secured with a personal credit card. The consensus of the council was that the bill be submitted to Donald Durden for reimbursement as part of the water problem repairs the Trustees are working to resolve.

Willard Knipp then gave his Pastor’s Report. He passed around a brochure on the AED (automated exter-nal defibrillator) selected for purchase. The approximate cost of the AED is $ 1,500. A storage cabinet for

wall mounting will also be purchased for an additional $ 100. The church received 49 sign-ups yesterday

for the new One-Call Now system. The District Superintendent is looking for a young adult, between 18 – 35 years old, who is willing to be an equalization delegate at Annual Conference; please let Willard know if you or someone else is interested.

Willard then asked for discussion and a decision in regard to worship times for June. He asked if we want to hold one combined service again this summer and suggested holding Sunday School at 9:30 and the worship service at 10:45. Kim Aitken stated that Membership Care may look at the feasibility of hosting a

breakfast one of the Sunday mornings in June. Tracy Bertram made a motion to hold one combined wor-ship service each Sunday morning throughout the month of June, with Sunday School to be held at 9:30 and the worship service to start at 10:45. Kim Aitken seconded the motion and the motion passed.

Willard then continued his Pastor’s Report. As information for the council, Centenary is sending four dele-gates to Annual Conference. Willard is a Clergy Delegate and Larry Crouch is our Lay Delegate. Clyde Tharp is the Associate Lay Leader for the Annual Conference. Helena Kruer is an equalization delegate. Also as information, the Frankfort District Conference will be held on May 24th at 3:00 at Frankfort First

U.M.C. The business conducted that day will be done in order to close down the district prior to the redis-tricting; the Trustees may need to know about dispersal of funds. The new district will have an opening

conference in July.

Larry Crouch next asked for the report from lay leadership. Mark Burks had nothing to report as Lay Lead-er.

Larry Crouch had nothing to report as Lay Delegate. Larry stated that he needs to talk to Angela Cook

about including a reminder to bring single-wrapped toothbrushes for the hygiene kits for Annual Confer-ence. We already have 72 toothbrushes and will be collecting these toothbrushes now through June 7, 2015.

Larry Crouch next asked if there was any other business. Kim Aitken asked about the contact person for the church website. Willard Knipp stated that this would be Angela Cook in the church office. Kim will get with Angela about adding a link to the program for coordinating meals. Kim also wanted to highlight that they were welcoming three new members to the scholarship committee. This year’s application deadline is

April 27th, the meeting is April 28th, and Senior Recognition Sunday is May 17th. Lynda Tharp will be pre-sent that morning to award the scholarship(s) to this year’s seniors.

There was no other new business.

The next meeting is May 18th. Trisha Hobbs stated that she will not be present at the meeting so Holly Husband will probably be looking for a volunteer to take minutes of the meeting.

Willard Knipp then closed the meeting in prayer and Larry Crouch adjourned the meeting at 7:28 p.m.

Respectfully Submitted,

Trisha Hobbs

Due to Annual Conference and Youth Mission Trip we will not have Administration

Meetings or Church Council Meeting during the month of June.

Remember in Prayer

Thank you for participating in the Kentucky Conference’s

“Have a Heart for Seniors Love Offering.” Your offering of $430.00 supports

residents who outlive the money they worked so hard to save over a lifetime.

You are providing these dear residents with the peace of mind that they can

remain “home” at the village close to family and friends. It would be a privi-

lege to have you visit our Village. For a tour contact Susan Blankenship

through your faithful and generous care of others.
