SeLIS 13 -Double Value AddedThe Senior Level Information MonitoringSystem (SeLIS) for Year 13 pupils is now fullyon-line. This year we improved the way SeLIStables and graphs can be printed and savedto the hard drive.

Previous BLIS feedback from Year 11 to theend of Year 13 will still require the old PARISsoftware. SeLIS does not use the PARISsoftware.

The FIRST SeLIS 13 feedback in February showsretrospective Year 12 progress for eachYear 13 registered pupil (often this is fromNCEA Level 1 to NCEA Level 2). FINAL feedbackshows progress for these pupils over Year 13.The final feedback is released at the end ofFebruary after Year 13 is completed.

There are three levels of feedback for SeLISon the web:

Pupil Reports include a table for each pupilshowing Year 12 value added progress in eachsubject. A progress chart and a Year 13individual target graph are also included inthe first feedback. At the end of Year 13, thefinal feedback includes a similar table andprogress chart.

MidYIS 9 - Yr 10 TestsTests for Year 10 are available as anadditional option for MidYIS 9.

If your school takes part in the MidYIS 9 projectnext year AND was registered for the MidYIS 9project this year, then next year your school iseligible to take part in the Year 10 assessmentsfor the MidYIS project. This extra analysis isoptional for schools and comes at an additionalcost.

On your 2010 registration form, you canindicate your interest in the Year 10 assessment. There isn’t any committment for Year 10 at theinitial registration stage.

Next year, you will be approached forconfirmation of the Year 10 assessment. Finalcommittment will require filling in a specificregistration form that we will send you.

End of Term 3: Yr 10 tests sent to the schoolEarly Term 4: Yr 10 test is administered.

There are 2 x 40 minute tests for Year 10:English / Social StudiesMaths / Science

English, Social Studies, Maths and Science areeach 20 minutes long. English and SocialStudies is paired to make one 40 minute test.Maths and Science are paired to make a second40 minute test.

Value added results to Year 10 are scheduledfor release in December as pupils completeYear 10.

Note: Even for schools that do not opt for thisYear 10 assessment, MidYIS 9 will continue toprovide value added feedback to the end ofYear 11.

Value Added Progress forCambridge examsPROGRESS TO IGCSE:MidYIS 9 and Yellis 11 value added progresscan be calculated for Cambridge IGCSEexaminations using international regressionlines. There isn’t any additional cost for thisservice if schools are already registered forthe standard value added projects. Howevera cost could be incurred if the Cambridgeresults are given in certificate form insteadof the preferred spreadsheet format.

Schools can request a spreadsheet of theirresults from the Cambridge NZ coordinator,Simon Higgins.

If you have any queries or requests, pleasefeel free to contact CEM on: telephone: (03) 364 2588 or fax: (03) 364 2641 or email: [email protected] or see our website:www.cem.canterbury.ac.nz

Subject Reports include a table of results foreach subject, a longtitudinal SPC graph anda scattergram graphically showing theprogress of your students scattered arounda nationally expected line.

The Institution Report shows a comparisonbetween subjects. This monitors how theschool is doing.

Registration is now open for SeLIS.Register your 2010 Year 13 pupils now.

TARGET GRAPHS - what they look like

Each Year 11 pupil is provided with minimumtargets for their Year 11 subjects.

Target graphs:Focus on subjectsCan be used as a motivating toolProvide a minimum targetInclude a higher targetCan be produced for 18-22 subjects

Empowers pupils to self monitor

Horizontal dotted lines help interpret whetherthe pupil should aim for straight achievementpasses (or US passes) or whether a proportionof his/her subject credits should be achievedwith merit or excellence.

There is flexibility for the teacher to increaseupper target values for highly motivatedpupils.

Note: Target graphs are limited to the 18-22subjects suitable for value added analysis.

Yellis -TARGET GRAPHS

This year we provided individual target graphsfor pupils registered in Yellis.

We collected each pupil’s Year 11 subjectswhen they sat the baseline test in February.

Target graphs are produced by putting apupil’s 2009 Year 11 Yellis baseline score intothe 2008 Yellis subject regression lines. Theresult is an indication of expected level ofachievement in NCEA subjects at the end ofYear 11 (see below).

MidYIS 9 -TARGET GRAPHS

If your school registered for MidYIS 9 in 2007and this year, you would have been offeredindividual target graphs for your 2007 pupilscurrently in Year 11.

We gave your school the list of 2007 Yr 9registered pupils. You sent back the Year 11subjects for each pupil.

We used the 2008 MidYIS regression lines toproduce NCEA targets that each Year 11 pupilshould aim for by the end of this year (seebelow).

In future, we can produce MidYIS targetgraphs in March, as soon as your school sendsCEM the Year 11 subjects done by eachMidYIS 9 registered pupil.
