Endo and Exo -cytosis
Endocytosis is a process in which cell takes in materials from the outside by engulfing and fusing them with its plasma membrane.
Exocytosis: when materials leave the cell by the membrane "spitting it out" . It is the opposite of endocytosis.

The Cell in Its Environment
Crossing the Cell MembraneMolecules move into and out of a cell by means of passive or active transport. Complete the boxes, and describe where the concentration of each substance is high or low.

Anaerobic vs. AerobicRespiration
Uses no oxygen
Makes a little energy
Uses oxygen
Makes a lot of energy

To release energy from food molecules and make ATP!
Why do we need ATP?
To run chemical reactions that keep us alive and functioning.
Purpose of cellular respiration?

Not enough oxygen for aerobic respiration
Fermentation-releases energy from food molecules by producing ATP in the absence of oxygen. (Anaerobic = no oxygen)Two types: alcoholic fermentation, lactic acid fermentation
Fermentation: Anerobic respiration
The process by which cells release energy by breaking down food molecules without using oxygen.

Cell Division
When one cell splits in half during cell division, the result is two new cells. Each of those two cells can divide into two more, and so on.

Binary Fission: Prokaryotic Cells
Video
Prokaryotes, such as Bacteria, use Binary Fission for cell division/replication.

The diffusion of water through a cells membrane is called __________ ? osmosis
When a cell needs to remove a large particle, the process it uses is called
__________________?exocytosis
The process of __________________ occurs when a cell needs to bring a large particle into
the cell.
endocytosis

Movement of particles against the normal flow of diffusion is called ______________ . active transport
The movement of dissolved materials across a cell membrane without using cellular energy is
called __________________?passive transport
During cellular respiration _______, a high energy molecule, supplies energy to the cells.
ATP

When your muscles are sore after hard exercise, it is because the cells don’t have
enough oxygen. This process is called __________ . fermentation
Chromosomes with matching information are called __________________.homologous chromosomes
The two copes of chromosomes tht form an X shape are called _____________.chromatids

Mitosis is a form of cell division that _______________ don’t use since they don’t
have a nucleus, instead they use _______________ fission .
prokaryotic cells
__________ ensures that each new cell receives a copy of each chromosome in normal
eukaryotic cells..
