Cell Membrane• Function:
– To keep all of the cells organelles inside.
– To allow things in and out of the cell.
• Found In: Plant and Animal Cells
![Page 3: Cell Organelles LS 2a – I will understand cell structure and organelles.](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062716/56649dea5503460f94ae537c/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
Cytoplasm• Function: To surround and
suspend all of the organelles within a cell.
• Found In: Plant and Animal Cells
![Page 4: Cell Organelles LS 2a – I will understand cell structure and organelles.](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062716/56649dea5503460f94ae537c/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
Ribosomes• Function: It’s the protein
factory• Very small organelle
• Found In: Plant and Animal Cells
![Page 5: Cell Organelles LS 2a – I will understand cell structure and organelles.](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062716/56649dea5503460f94ae537c/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Nucleus• Function: “The control center of
the cell.” It tells the cell what to do.• Stores DNA which contains the
information the cell needs to make proteins
• Found In: Plants and Animal Cells
![Page 6: Cell Organelles LS 2a – I will understand cell structure and organelles.](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062716/56649dea5503460f94ae537c/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
Mitochondria• Function: To break down food
particles in order to release energy (ATP).
• Known as the “MIGHTY MITOCHONDRIA”
• Found In: Plant and Animal Cells
![Page 7: Cell Organelles LS 2a – I will understand cell structure and organelles.](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062716/56649dea5503460f94ae537c/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
Endoplasmic Reticulum
• Function: Is the delivery system of the cell.– Internal delivery
• Similar to a “tunnel for cars”
• Found In: Plants and Animal Cells
![Page 8: Cell Organelles LS 2a – I will understand cell structure and organelles.](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062716/56649dea5503460f94ae537c/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
GolgiComplex
• Function: Processes and Transports Materials out of the cell. – External Delivery
• Lipids and Proteins from the ER are delivered to the Golgi.
• Found In: Plants and Animal Cells
![Page 9: Cell Organelles LS 2a – I will understand cell structure and organelles.](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062716/56649dea5503460f94ae537c/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
Vacuole• Function: To store water and other
materials. • This “water balloon” helps to give
the cell its support.
• Found In: Plants – LARGE vacuoles
Animals – Small vacuoles
![Page 10: Cell Organelles LS 2a – I will understand cell structure and organelles.](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062716/56649dea5503460f94ae537c/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Cell Wall• Function: To
provide strength and support to the cell membrane.
• Found In: Plant Cells Only
![Page 11: Cell Organelles LS 2a – I will understand cell structure and organelles.](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062716/56649dea5503460f94ae537c/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Chloroplast• Function: -- Take energy from
sunlight and turn it into sugar • (sugar is then passed to the
mitochondria to get energy – ATP)
• Found In: Plant Cells Only

The Cell Theory1.All organisms are
composed of one or more cells.
2.The cell is the basic unit of life.
3.All cells come from existing cells.

•No Nucleus•Genetic Information (dna) is
“bunched up” in the cytoplasm
(2)Control Center?

Organelles
• Organelles are not surrounded by any membranes
• They do have RIBOSOMES though!
(3)
![Page 16: Cell Organelles LS 2a – I will understand cell structure and organelles.](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062716/56649dea5503460f94ae537c/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
Genetic Information
• DNA is circular• A long molecule, shaped like a
rubber band
(4)
![Page 17: Cell Organelles LS 2a – I will understand cell structure and organelles.](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062716/56649dea5503460f94ae537c/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
Type of Cells?
• Bacteria!
(5)

Control Center
• Nucleus is in the center of the cell• Controls all cell activities• Easy to see!
(7)
![Page 20: Cell Organelles LS 2a – I will understand cell structure and organelles.](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062716/56649dea5503460f94ae537c/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
Organelles
• Surrounded by membranes• You can distinguish them from
each other• Separate structures
(8)
