A big congrats to the Mason City cheerleaders whocompeted in the state competition in Des Moines, andcame home with several awards and trophies.

The Competition Squad earned 2nd place in the LargeSquad division. The Timeout Squad took 6th, overall. Twosmall stunt groups competed as well. Stunt Group A con-sisting of Chanel Barlas, Taryn Kantaris, Kenzie Penca,Abbi Schupanitz, and Alexa Wasicek placed 10th, andStunt Group B with McKenna Dahlquist, Danielle Davis,Delanie Hull, Kelsey Murray and Morgan Vorba took 12th,out of 37 teams.

Four Mason City High School cheerleaders were hon-ored for making the Iowa All-State Squad, that will per-form during the Boy’s State Basketball Tournament inMarch. They include Chanel Barlas, Natalie Mujica,Vanessa Swendsen, and Dani Zeigler. Also, three seniorcheerleaders Danielle Davis, Abbi Schupanitz and MorganVorba, were selected to perform with the Honor Squadnext week at the UNI Dome, during the football champi-onship game.

The school was also recognized with the “Friend ofCheerleading” award from the Iowa Cheer Coaches Asso-ciation for its contribution to Iowa cheerleading. DonnaMcKay, representative, accepted the award. The schoolwas also chosen to receive a $250 scholarship to give adeserving senior.
