Welcome Visitors
We are glad you are worshiping with us as we celebrate this graduation of the diakonia program, the twelfth for the Metropolitan Chicago Synod. The program began in the Metropolitan New York Synod, which is celebrating over 30 years of service. The program also exists in the Florida-Bahamas Synod, Greater Milwaukee Synod, Indiana-Kentucky Synod, New Jersey Synod, Northern Illinois Synod, and Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod.
We invite you to receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion. During today's service, the service participants will receive communion first at the altar. PRAYER OF THE DAY
II tJ r J J J II f.fl The Lord be with you. ~And al - so with you.
P: Lord God, you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go, but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
C: Amen.

10 do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.
The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.
PSALM 62:5-8 We will sing responsively by half verse. The cantor will sing the first half of the verse. will respond with the second half of the verse.
The congregation
5For God alone my soul waits in silence, for my hope is from him.
6He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
70n God rests my deliverance and my honor; my mighty rock, my refuge is in God.
8Trust in him at all times, 0 people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us.
SECOND READING: Colossians 3:12-17
L: C:
12 As God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. 13Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful. 16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God. 17And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

PRESENTATION OF CANDIDATES
Rebecca Dahlstrom presents the candidates to the minister:
P:
These persons desire to make public affirmation of their Baptism as a sign of their renewed participation in the life and word of the Church of Christ. [ Their names ar~ read}
Dear friends, we rejoice that you have returned to the household of God to claim again the eternal inheritance which is your birthright in Holy Baptism.

PROFESSION OF FAITH (addressing those making affirmation)
P:
P: R:
P: R:
P: R:
P: R:
Brothers and sister in Christ: In Holy Baptism our Lord Jesus Christ received you and made you members of his church. In the community of God's people, you have learned from his Word God's loving purpose for you and all creation. You have been called to be witnesses to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Now, therefore, I ask you to profess your faith in Christ Jesus, reject sin, and confess the faith of the Church, the faith in which we baptize.
Do you renounce all the forces of evil, the devil, and all his empty promises? I do.
Do you believe in God the Father? I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God? I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again, he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit? I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

LORD'S PRAYER
C: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

WORDS OF INSTITUTION
P: Blessed are you, Lord of heaven and earth. In mercy for our fallen world you gave your only Son, that all those who believe in him should not perish, but have eternal life. We give thanks to you for the salvation you have prepared for us through Jesus Christ. Send now your Holy Spirit into our hearts, that we may receive our Lord with a living faith as he comes to us in his holy supper.
C: Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
P: In the night in which he was betrayed our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.
16
(Sit) DECLARATION OF INTENT
P: (Addressing those making affirmation) You have made public profession of your faith. Do you intend to continue in the covenant God made with you in Holy Baptism:
to live among God's faithful people, to hear his Word and share in his supper, to proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed, to serve all people, following the example of our Lord Jesus, and to strive for justice and peace in all the earth?
R: I do, and I ask God to help and guide me.
PRAYER
P: Let us pray.
A brief silence is kept so that your silent prayers may be made for the graduates.
Gracious Lord, through water and the spirit you have made these men and women your own. You forgave them all their sins and brought them to newness of life. Continue to strengthen them with the Holy Spirit, and daily increase in them your gifts of grace,
C: Amen.

Continue to strengthen them with the Holy Spirit, and daily increase in them your gifts of grace,
C: Amen.
the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord, the spirit of joy in your presence, through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord.

PROFESSION OF FAITH (addressing those making affirmation)

P: R:
Amen.

Amen.
