Obituary

Minnie Byers Hush, 88, of Gaffney, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2019, at home.

A daughter of the late Violet Byers, she was born July 4, 1931, in Gaffney, South Carolina.

She is survived by her daughters Dorothy (Eugene) Manning, Dianne Norris, and Mary (The Rev. Dewey) Whittenburg, all of Gaffney; sisters Clara Smedley of Gaffney and Elwillie Belton of Columbia, South Carolina; her aunt Idella Byers of Charlotte, North Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchil-dren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her sisters Mae Edna Newsome, Nellie Steen and Mary Violet Dawkins; brothers Leroy Byers, Wright Byers and Shedrick Byers; her grandparents Wright and Rachel Baxter Byers; her husband, Sam Hush; stepsons Tony Hush, Ray Hush, and J.C. Hush.

She was a longtime employee of Limestone Manufacturing before working as a caregiver for the late Mrs. C.B. Poole, members of the Hamricks family, and members of the family of the late Graham Brasington.

She was a proud member of the Red Hat Society and was recognized as the “mother” of Shady Grove Baptist Church, affiliations she held dear to her heart.

She was an enthusiatic fan of professional wrestling, watching it on television and in personal appearances when able to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Compassus Hospice, Palliative Care and Home Health, 212 E Floyd Baker Blvd, Gaffney, SC 29340. Phone: (864) 487-5875
