Key Thought

To celebrate Pentecost is to recognize our need for the Holy Spirit to work in our lives and cry out in prayer for more of His presence.

Page 3: Celebrating pentecost

Christians struggle to deal with behaviors, habits, & attitudes that don’t please God.

Christians are often more controlled by the influence of media and peers and selfish desires than by God’s Word and his Spirit.

Christians work hard but see little result.

God Turns Us By His Spirit

For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.

Rom 8:13-14 NIV

Transformed By The Holy Spirit

He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior

Titus 3:5-6 NIV

God Teaches Us by His Spirit But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit,

whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you

John 14:25-26 NIV

God Focuses Us Through His Spirit

Those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so. Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.

Rom 8:5-8 NIV

Controlled by the Holy Spirit

You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.

Rom 8:9 NIV

Conduit for the Holy Spirit

Whoever believes in me . . . . streams of living water will flow from within him.“ By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.

John 7:38-39 NIV
