SYNOPSIS: In 2017, Canada celebrates its 150th birthday. This is a pivotal milestone for our country that allows us to connect with our past, celebrate who we are and build a legacy for tomorrow. All Canadians will be inspired and we would like to introduce an opportunity that will engage your organization as well. You can choose ONE or BOTH of the following projects:

1. TTC ART Festival: Thanks to a $100,000 in-kind donation of murals from PATTISON Outdoor Advertising, for 8 weeks Summer 2017, the TTC will host 60 original pieces of art reflecting the 150 REASONS we love Canada. Youth from some of Toronto’s more challenged communities will bring these reasons to life through art. Your logo would be on the TTC panels.

2. Commissioned artwork for your offices: Under the guidance of a professional artist, youth would create a customized piece of art for your offices that will reflect the 150 REASONS we love Canada. These reasons could evolve from Canadians across Canada or from your employees giving them a sense of project ownership as they reflect on the REASONS they love Canada.

VIBE ARTS We provide opportunities for youth in under-resourced communities to engage meaningfully in free high quality arts education. VIBE believes that no child should be deprived of the creative spark that comes with early exposure to the arts simply because of financial circumstance.

Last year alone: over 7, 000 youth participated in over 1152 workshops in 97 different venues with 70 different collaborative partners. Programming typically runs for 8 weeks in each venue. 4

WHERE WE WORK:Our focus has been the 13 Priority Neighbourhoods identified as neighbourhoods with the lowest equity

scores across a range of benchmarks. We work in schools, community centers, public housing, hospitals,

hospices, libraries, parks, detention centers, shopping malls and shelters – anywhere young people are

found.

The neighbourhoods include: Jamestown, Jane/Finch, Weston-Mt. Dennis, Lawrence Heights, Regent

Park, Victoria Village, Warden Woods, Kingston/Galloway, Malvern . Toronto Central, Flemington Park

etc. We are open to working in any under-resourced neighbourhood that are partners recommend.

1. The TTC Art Festival In 2017, Canada celebrates its 150th birthday. This is a pivotal milestone for our country that allows us to connect with our past, celebrate who we are and honour our exceptional achievements.

SOCIAL MARKETING OUTREACH: A social marketing outreach program will generate the 150 REASONS Canadians love Canada; youth from diverse communities will reflect on these 150 REASONS and bring them to life through art.

YOUTH AS ARTISTS: Working with local professional artists and emerging youth artists, 30 groups of youth from under-resourced communities will create 60 original ( 6 feet x 4 feet )murals that will visually represent the 150 REASONS. If you wish to recommend a community partner i.e. Boys and Girls club or a school or a community, we would be pleased to include.

BRINGING THE 150 REASONS TO LIFE: VIBE Arts roster of professional artists and arts assistants will help facilitate the discussion, reflection, planning and teamwork needed to bring the 150 REASONS to life; they will lead the programs offered in schools, aboriginal agencies, hospitals, homeless shelters, in schools for children with disabilities, and in partnership with community centres and local libraries. All materials will be provided as all our programming is free for youth.

150 REASONS: Since REASONS could be anything from the “Smell of grass in the spring” to “Freedom”, the panels will present the young artists with many sources of inspiration.

NUMBER OF YOUTH INVOLVED: There will be 30 venues involved in the creation of 2 murals each; each venue/program is an 8 week project led by an emerging artist and 2 youth artist assistants engaging approximately 500 marginalized youth.

PATTISON IN-KIND CONTRIBUTION: Thanks to a $100,000 in-kind donation from PATTISON, VIBE has received an 8 week donation of 60 advertising panels ( 6 feet x 4 feet) located in Toronto’s subway platforms for 8 weeks (Summer 2017 ). The original art will reach 1.2 million riders daily.

IMPACT: This project will create a heart-warming connection with all Canadians. It will reflect Canadian cultural values of inclusiveness and diversity, while provoking dialogue about our country in the families, classrooms and communities of the young artists involved in the project and the TTC passengers as well.

OUR ASK: Any donation amounts are appreciated. However all partners contributing $15,000 to the 150 REASONS project will have their logo prominently included on the 60 PATTISON panels.

2. CUSTOMIZED ARTWORK THEME: For the artwork for your office, we could use the 150 Reasons from our social outreach oralternatively we will ask your employees to reflect and share their top 150 REASONS that they loveCanada. We can also tweak the theme to be more in line with your mission or business objectives.

ARTISTS: We will take these REASONS and working with marginalized communities, we will engageyouth to turn these REASONS into a piece of art for your offices. Alternatively working with our rosterof Youth Artists, we could engage your employees as artists by setting up a pop-up studio in yourcafeteria or at a company retreat.

Either way, this project will ensure that your employees are included in Canada’s 150th birthdaycelebration as it will stimulate discussion and ensure a surge of enthusiasm to sweep your organization.10

2. CUSTOMIZED ARTWORK (continued)ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES:

• Plaque: To accompany the piece of art, we would provide a plaque ( 8 “ x 11”) thatwould outline the story in its creation ( mock-up below).

• P.R. Opportunities – working with you, we could create a media release to share withtrade magazines/websites and/or professional associations.

• Client Engagement – your clients are an important part of who you are. Working withyou, we would engage them in the process and send them a framed digitalized versionof the finished art piece for their offices as well.

• Employees – A digital version (poster) could be given to all employees.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS

Size and Location: We would work with you to determine the right location and size for the mural or artwork.

The 150 REASONS: Working together, we will decide the right framework to recruit the REASONS. Perhaps a staff retreat, perhaps an e-blast to your employees, or maybe a contest of some sort. Alternatively perhaps the REASONS stem from us. However we decide to recruit the 150 REASONS, we wish to ensure project stakeholders talk and share ideas.

Design: The 150 REASONS theme will begin with research into the collection of ideas and discussion with management on possible criteria essential to the artwork. The artist will visually translate the theme into a coloured sketch or “maquette” to be approved by you prior to beginning the process with youth.

Bringing it to life: Working from the approved maquette, the

mural’s imagery is transferred onto a panel custom created for the location.

COST of the customized piece of art: Cost will depend on size and scope of project. It will be determined in consultation with our Executive Director Julie Frost. $5000 or up. Tax receipt provided.

The Process

2016• May – August 2016: Outreach to generate the 150 REASONS we love Canada.

• September – December 2016: Mural making workshops begin in community venues.

2017

• January 1- April 30 2017: Workshops continue.

• Summer 2017 : Original art receives 8 weeks of exposure in the TTC and/or companies receive original piece of art .

Legacy

• CORPORATE CANADA: The LEGACY artwork stays in your location A small plaque will be created to tell the story. Digital copies/posters: If you wish, digital copies can be created in poster format for employees.

• PATTISON MURALS: We will research a legacy home for the panels. Options include Pearson Airport, TTC , City of Toronto etc. We wish to find a permanent home and are open to any suggestions that you might have.

Acknowledgement and Recognition:In acknowledgement of your contribution, your organization will be recognized as an important partner in the “150 REASONS” project as follows:

TTC Subway Murals: Vinyl decals will be mounted on to the bottom of each of the murals displaying partner logos. These decals will be large enough to be seen from subway platforms.

Print, Social Media platforms and Digital: Recognition in all project marketing materials, VIBE ARTS newsletters, annual report, website and any other promotional tools.

TTC subway platform: Over and above the current offer, Pattison One Stop provides video footage on TTC platform TV monitors. All VIBE partners will be recognized. Viewed by 1.2 million unique riders weekly. (See image above)

Documentary/evaluation video: A professional videographer will document the program. The video will be distributed to key stakeholders at the completion of the project.

Access to imagery/photos: For your annual report and employee newsletters, we will provide access to imagery and photos. Youth and Parental permissions acquired for you. 14

OUR FRAMEWORKOur framework incorporates 4 key themes that are essential to helping youth succeed:

1. FAMILY AND COMMUNITY: Young people need people in their lives who care and encourage them. All of our programs focus on team building relationships and community sharing.

2. DIVERSITY AND SOCIAL INCLUSION: All our programs ensure an inclusive environment regardless of ethnic origin, religion, sexual orientation, language, disability or economic status.

3. CIVIC ENGAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP: Better outcomes for communities are achieved when youth are heard and involved. All our programs are focused on giving youth a voice.

4. APPRENTICESHIP AND EMPLOYMENT: Professional artists, emerging artists from the communities where we work are hired to facilitate all programs. They act as role models to participants. We also employ marginalized youth as arts assistants receiving mentorship and training in arts education leading possibility to employment elsewhere. 16

OUR SROI IMPACTThe social value created by VIBE ARTS’s accessible educational arts programs is wide-ranging and diverse across the multitude of programs offered. A recent independent study by SiMPACT Strategy Group, a social impact consultancy, concludes that VIBE ARTS has a 4:1 Social Return on Investment – for every dollar invested in VIBE ARTS, there is $4 created in social value.

Value is created for numerous stakeholders:

� Participant youth (54%): access to valuable art supplies, exposure as artists, community support.

� Community (40%): reduced vandalism, positive public perception, community embellishment.

� Art assistants and teachers (6%): skill development, income and training.

In addition, after experiencing a VIBE ARTS program, over 98% of our program partners ask us back which is also a key indicator of our success in the community.

They reflect the diversity of the communities and are selected based on their past experience in the field of arts education, their professional body of work and their ability to communicate with marginalized populations, especially with children and youth.

YOUTH ARTS ASSISTANTS (42) : VIBE Arts recruits talented emerging artists ; they work in their own neighbourhoods and act as role models for the youth. These young artists also receive artistic and pedagogical skills while assisting in the facilitation of our programs.

The Welcome 41 murals were digitalized and blown up to welcome the Pan Am athletes when they arrived in Toronto. In addition, the images

were put on 8000 plaques and they became the customized Welcome gifts for the 8,000 athletes .

COXWELL SUBWAY STATION: Last year, the East York Civic Centre and VIBE ARTS hosted a public consultation meeting where community

Members of all ages shared their memories, hopes and dreams about their neighbourhood past, present and future. Local youth worked

with emerging artists to capture the ideas expressed, translating them into mural form. Printed wallpaper from the past peels away to

expose visions of the future: industry goes green, public transit is completely accessible, pollution is a thing of the past and local waterways

are once again abundant with fish.
