A Faulty Model for Teams

There once was a team of talented, knowledgeable men that made up a team. Each was recognized as an all star in his position. Together,

they decided that they no longer needed a coach. Each man knew more about the game than any coach. When game day arrived, each man arrived with his winning strategy. In the initial minutes, chaos set in on the team of superstars. Team members were frustrated that others were not following "the plan". The average team took advantage of the chaos to dominate the game. Every player needs a coach. Every team needs a coach. This applies in church life as well as sports. Church members need a "coach" to help them connect with others in growth, service and accountability. A coach sees the various team members, their strengths & weaknesses, and provides a plan that coordinates all those factors. Pastors serve as coaches, but they, too, need a coach for similar reasons (to grow personally, to collaborate in local or global missions, and to have others watch over our souls). Everyone who seeks to excel needs a coach. Every team needs a coach. Don't try life or ministry on your own! God has placed godly persons near you to be friends and guides. There are also others who need your witness and encouragement. Don't waste the opportunities God places around you to win with others. Your association can help connect you and your team to those who can help you dream and do. “Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him.

And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” Ecclesiastes 4:12

CHURCH CONTRIBUTIONS for May 2016

SEARCHING FOR A PASTOR Anderson Grove Aquadale, Rev. Jimmie Hudson-Interim Bethel Community Red Cross, Rev. John Green-Interim Richfield, Rev. Chris Ehrlich-Interim

Interim*

In addition to Church Contributions received, we also received monies from other sources totaling $271.59 which

gives a grand total for the month of May of $13,210.83.

Another school year has ended and graduations have been held, meaning that summer is well on its way. Where did the time go? We’re already halfway through this year. My prayer to you is to have a safe and relaxing summer, so you’ll return in the fall, revived and ready to roll once again for mission work.

Many thanks to the churches who donated supplies to the Esther House. It filled up my SUV. I know they greatly appreciate it at the house. They have so much foot traffic, they go thru items quickly.

There were only 3 people plus the workers at our last meal for Community Inn. Don’t know if that was a good or bad thing. Everyone enjoyed the hamburgers/cheeseburgers and fixings. Our next meal isn’t until September 15. Be sure to mark your calendar. So many churches and organizations are really coming together to help the people in our community, and it gives me a warm feeling. Don’t forget the ongoing needs-coffee, creamer, cereal (Corn Flakes and Cheerios) cereal containers, men’s medium sized underwear, summer pajamas for men and women, small pop top cans of Vienna Sausages, pork and beans, snack crackers, copy paper, disinfectant spray and wipes. We have to remember they also have a lot of foot traffic.

I have a request from Louise Floyd. She has served as associational Secretary/Treasurer for the past seven years and would like to step down. If there is anyone who is interested in this position or even two people interested in serving on the associational level, please let me or Libby know. We can separate the two jobs, and neither one requires a lot of work. Louise would really love to pass it on!

I have changed our meeting to Tuesday, July 19, 7:00 p.m. at the associational office. We will plan for the next year.

In His Love Always,

Barbara – 704.982.9508

A word from your MBA/SBA Missionary

SMALL BEGINNINGS

“Do not despise these small

beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the

work begin” Zechariah 4:10. Many of our

churches share much in common: small

congregations, minimal staff, meager

budgets, and modest resources. But we also

share an awesome and magnificent God! A

recent article by Travis Smalley expresses my

heart’s prayer for the churches of our

associations. “The future of the SBC rests, in

many ways, in the hands of smaller churches.

If we could see small, healthy churches come

alive with missional living and missional

giving, the result would be nothing short of

miraculous. I pray that God would enable the

thousands of smaller SBC churches to see the

individual and collective potential that rests in

God moving though our congregation to

reach the world for His glory.” Eugene

Peterson paraphrases the promise of

Philippians 1:6 – “There has never been the

slightest doubt in my mind that the God who

started this great work in you would keep at it

and bring it to a flourishing finish!”

In the grip of His grace, Rick

BAPTIST CHILDREN’S HOMES NEWS

School is out and summer is here! Vacation time is here for some, but at the N. C. Baptist Children’s homes there is no vacation from children needing homes for whatever reason. From 2013 to 2015 the number of children living at BCH has increased by 24%.

There are always needs to be met. Currently; several cottages need renovating to be able to care for more children and families. Approximately 2 million dollars are needed for the renovations. Also, there is a need for several vans and vehicles for transportation on each campus. If you feel lead to offer financial assistance or volunteer your time to assist with renovations, please contact Brenda Gray at 336-689-4442.

Thank you and continue to remember the children of BCH and staff in your prayers. Judy – 704.982.4891
