Project OverviewProject Overview
Objectives
Web-based data management and dissemination of study results to external stakeholders is a crucial component of the CEIN. It is geared toward serving a multitude of functions:
1.Knowledge base creation2.Modeling and analysis tools development3.Data repository (CEIN and non-CEIN)4.Document archiving (CEIN and non-CEIN) 5.Data and document sharing6.Assessing/analyzing data/document use by CEIN users7.Public access to the CEIN data can be provided at various level of access
The CEIN Data Management Server (DMS) provides:File versioningData securityWorkflows for uploading, reviewing and approving data documentsMetadata association with data and publication documents Focused document searchesCustomizable modules to automatically feed relevant data columns into modeling packages such as MatlabLinking of files to others through use of file metadata
• Develop a collaborative web-based data management infrastructure for structured and unstructured data sets and documents
• Metadata describes file content• Search engine (based on Metadata and
documents content)• Documents and data files can be linked via
predefined fields• Workflow templates can be tailored to allow
automation of data retrieval into specified applications or formats
Three Scenarios That Can be Accommodated by CEIN DMS

The CEIN Data Management Server (DMS) is built on the SharePoint platform. All files (document and data) are categorized into three content types: protocol, publication and characterization
•Content types are a collection of metadata field definitions that describe file content. For example, a protocol document metadata might mention the protocol version and who was involved in drafting it. •Content types are hierarchical, whereby metadata fields can be inherited from base content types •Metadata fields can serve as links to other documents. For example, a publication’s metadata can point to the files cited within the content. •The DMS search engine parses metadata field values, which allows faster retrieval of documents through the use of metadata to supplement the typical document search.
• The CEIN Data Management Server (DMS) enables data and document sharing and advanced search capability in addition to a host of other collaboration features (e.g., calendaring, blogging and Wiki)
• The CEIN DMS provides secure file versioning and workflows, which help ensure data/document completion and quality control
• The CEIN DMS is web-accessible with secured and automated tracking and approval of uploaded data/document files
• Data and document downloading can be automated to interface with modeling and decision making tools
