HKN continues to be an honor society composed of some of the top upperclassmen, dedicated to

assisting underclassmen through information and available tutoring hours. This semester some of our members have dedicated time to tutor in freshmen

and sophomore courses, and we plan to host, in conjunction with IEEE, fireside chats to help

freshmen register for their spring classes.

SWE kicked off the year a little differently than normal. Instead of the annual ice cream social, we hosted SWE S’mores, using the grill behind CEER as our “bonfire.” Old and new members got to know each other through this informal gathering, sharing experiences and advice with each other. We are busy preparing for two big events coming up this fall. First, the national SWE Conference is being held in Philadelphia October 27th-29th. Villanova SWE already has over a dozen members registered to attend. Second, planning for the annual Networking Dinner is well underway. SWE pushed invites out earlier with the hope that doing so will increase attendance at our biggest event. SWE participated in St. Thomas of Villanova Day of Service partnered with NovaCANE, and has signed up to host the dreamcatcher booth during Special Olympics weekend. This month, Chem-E Car has begun recruiting interested students to join the organization, and the first general body meeting was held earlier this month. Work on

developing ideas for the car that will be powered and stopped by chemical reactions has begun. In the near

future, both halves of the club (the starting reaction and stopping reaction teams) will begin to meet regularly,

with the goal being to make it to competition once again later this year.
