1. About CEED

TheobjectiveoftheCommonEntranceExamforDesign(CEED) istoassessthecandidate’saptitude for design involving visual perception ability, drawing skills, logical reasoning,creativity,communication,andproblemsolvingskills.CEEDisconductedbyIITBombay.Itisaqualifying examination for admission to Master of Design (MDes) programmes at IIScBangalore,IITBombay,IITDelhi,IITGuwahati,IITHyderabad,IIITDMJabalpur,andIITKanpur,andtoPh.DprogrammesinDesignatIIScBangalore,IITBombay,IITGuwahati,IITHyderabad,and IIT Kanpur. Qualifying in CEED alone does not guarantee admission to any of theseprogrammes.Admittinginstitutesmayconductfurthertestsand/orinterviewsforthefinalselection/admission.

ACEEDscoredoesNOTGuaranteeadmission.

Admitting Institutes will also verify the eligibility, the category certificates and otherdocumentsalongwiththeCEEDscore.TheCEED2019scoreisvalidforaperiodofoneyearfromthedateofdeclarationoftheresult.


1.1 CEED 2019

CEED2019willbeconductedonSaturday,January19,2019from10:00-13:00hours.Theexaminationwillconsistoftwoparts,PartAandPartB.Candidatesmustattemptquestionsfromboththeparts.PartAwillbeconductedfrom10:00to11:00hoursfollowedbyPartBfrom11:00 to 13:00 hours. Every effortwill bemade to complete the examination in thissession.

PartAcontainsobjectivetypequestions(multiplechoicequestions,multipleselectquestionsandnumericalanswerquestions).AnswerstoPartAhavetobegivenonthecomputer.Thesewillbedesignaptitudetypequestionsthatevaluatevisualandspatialability,environmentaland social awareness, analytical and logical reasoning, language, observation and designsensitivity of the candidates. PartB consists of questions that are aimedat testingdesign,drawingandwritingskills.ThequestionsinPartBwillbedisplayedonthecomputerscreenandtheanswersaretobewrittenintheanswerbookprovidedbytheinvigilator(NOTintotheComputer).PartBanswerbookswillbecollectedattheendoftheexamination.

MarksobtainedinPartAwillbeusedtoshortlistcandidates.Thecut-offforPartAmarksforshortlistingcandidates in theOpencategorywillbeX+½Σ,whereX is theaveragemarksobtainedbyallcandidatesinPartA,andΣisthestandarddeviation.Thecut-offsforshortlistingcandidatesofOBC-NCLcategorywillbe90%oftheOpencategory.Thecut-offsforshortlistingcandidatesofSC,ST,andPWDcategorieswillbe50%oftheOpencategory.

However, this is subject to the condition that the candidate must score the minimumprescribedmarks(aslistedbelow)ormoreinPartAtobeshortlisted.

PartBanswerbookswillbeevaluatedmanuallyforthecandidateswhoareshortlistedfromPartA. InPartB, therewill be8questionsof total100marks.Of these,questions1-5aredisciplinespecific,thatwillhave40markseachandthecandidateshaveachoicetoattemptanyoneofthesequestions.Afterthemanualevaluationofthesequestions,therawscoresforeachdisciplinewillbetestedfornormality.Iftherawscoresarefoundtobenotnormal,thenthe scores for each questionwill be transformed using the Box-cox transformation. Thesetransformedscoreswillthenbenormalizedbytheformulagivenbelow:

where,mistherawmarksobtainedbythepersoninquestioni,μiistheaverageoftherawmarksobtainedbyallcandidateswhoattemptedquestioni,σiisthestandarddeviationofthe


rawmarksobtainedbyall candidateswhoattemptedquestion i,andA=20andΣ=5arechosentobetheaverageandthestandarddeviation,respectively,ofthedistributionofscores‘S’.Ifthecalculated‘S’scoreforanycandidatesfallsbelow0,allsuchscoreswillbecappedat0,andifthecalculated‘S’scoreforanycandidatefallsabove40,allsuchscoreswillbecappedat40.

Marksobtainedinotherquestions inPartBwillbeaddedto ‘S’abovetoobtainthePartBscoreforthecandidate.ThefinalCEEDscorewillbecalculatedbygiving25%weightagetomarksobtained inPartA and75%weightage to scoresobtained inPartB after theabovecalculation.

Afterthedeclarationoftheresult,CEED2019scorecardswillbeavailablefordownloadingtoallthequalifiedcandidates.HardcopyoftheCEEDscorecardswillNOTbesenttothequalifiedcandidates. Answer booklet (Part B) will NOT be provided to the candidates. The marksobtainedinPartBwillNOTbedisclosedforthenon-qualifyingcandidates.

1.3 Examination Cities

CEED2019examinationwillbeconductedinthefollowingcities:

Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Delhi,Ernakulam, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Kozhikode, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur,Panaji,Patna,Pune,Raipur,Thiruvananthapuram,ThrissurandVishakhapatnam.

Candidatesshouldcompulsorilychoose3citiesintheorderofpreferenceatthetimeofonlineregistration.Oncetheregistrationformissubmitted,requestforachangeofcitywillNOTbeentertainedunderanycircumstances.

Ifasufficientnumberofcandidatesisnotavailableinacity,thenitmaybedroppedfromthefinallistandcandidateswillbeallottedtoacityoftheirsecondorthirdchoice.However,theJEE(Advanced)-UCEED-CEEDofficereservestherighttoaddanewcityorremoveanexistingoneandallotacitythatmaynotbeamonganyofthechoicesofacandidate.

Acitymayhavemorethanoneexaminationcentre.Insuchcases,arequestforchangeofacentrewithinthesamecitywillNOTbepermittedunderanycircumstances.

TheJEE(Advanced)-UCEED-CEEDoffice,IITBombaydoesnotprovideinformationaboutthecriteriaforpostgraduateadmissionandawardofscholarship/assistanceatdifferentinstitutes.Thisinformationmaybeobtainedfromthewebsitesoftherespectiveinstitutesgivenabove.Foranyspecificqueriesonadmissionandprogrammes,thecandidateshouldcontactthehead/convener/coordinatorofdesignprogrammeattheconcernedinstitute.

1.5 Eligibility

Candidatesmusthavecompletedadegree/diploma/postgraduatedegreeprogrammeofminimum3years(after10+2level),ormustbeappearingforthefinalexaminationofsuchaprogrambyJuly2019,ormusthavepassedtheGDArtsdiplomaprogramme(10+5level)byJuly2018.BeforeapplyingforCEED,candidatesareadvisedtocheckwhethertheymeettherequiredeligibilitycriteriaforadmissiontovariousinstitutes.

ThereisnoagelimittoappearforCEED.Besides,acandidatecanappearforCEEDanynumberoftimes.

1.6 Registration

CEED registration form must be submitted ONLINE ONLY through the official website,www.ceed.iitb.ac.in

Registrationfee:

• ₹1,300forallwomencandidates• ₹1,300for(SC/ST/PwD)candidates• ₹2,600forallothercandidates

Notethatthisfeeisnon-refundableandnon-transferable.Theregistrationfeehastobepaidthroughthepaymentoptionprovidedonthewebsitewhilesubmittingtheregistrationform.Detailed instructions related to the payment of registration fee are given on the onlineregistration portal. Credit card, debit card and net-banking options are available. TheregistrationfeeshownaboveDOESNOTINCLUDEserviceandotherchargesandtheprocessingfeesthatthebanksmaylevy.

ThenormalregistrationfeeshownaboveisapplicabletilltheregularclosingdateofNovember9, 2018, 23:45 hours. A late fee of ₹ 500 is applicable to ALL candidates for registrationssubmittedaftertheregularclosingdatetillNovember16,2018,23:45hours.


1.7 Instructions for Filling the Online Registration Form

Inordertocompletetheregistrationprocedure,youneedtouploadthefollowingitems:

1. Filecontainingyourrecentcolourphotograph(.jpgfile).2. Scannedcopyofyoursignature(.jpgfile).3. Scanned copy of your degree / diploma certificate (.pdf file) if the course is

completed.Ifyoudonothavethefinaldegreecertificate,pleaseuploadthecopyofthe finalyearmark listor theprovisionalcertificate. If thecourse isnotcompleted,a certificate from the Principal of the college / Head of the department(Appendix1)(.pdffile).

4. CandidateswhoareapplyingintheSC/ST/OBC-NCLcategoryhavetoproducevalidcategorycertificates(.pdffile)issuedbyappropriateauthorities.FormatoftheOBC-NCLcertificateisgivenintheAppendix2.OBC-NCLcertificatesissuedONLYfromApril1,2018onwardsareaccepted.FormatoftheSC/STcertificatesisgivenintheAppendix3.

5. Candidateswhoareapplyinginpersonwithphysicaldisability(PwD)categoryshouldproduceavalidmedicalcertificate(.pdffile)issuedbytheappropriateauthority(seeAppendixes4to7).DyslexiccandidatesarerequiredtoadditionallyobtainacertificatefromthePrincipal/HeadoftheCollege/InstitutionasperAppendix8(.pdffile).

6. PwDcandidaterequiringcompensatorytimeduringtheexamneedtouploadarequestletterasperAppendix9(.pdffile).

7. Candidateswhosenameisnotsameasthenameonthedegree/diplomacertificateshouldproduceagazettenotification,amarriagecertificateorscannedpagesofthepassportshowingthechangeofname(.pdffile).

Pleaserememberthatthedocuments1-7abovearetobeuploadedaselectronicfilesduringtheonlineregistration.Papercopiesofthesedocumentsoranyotherdocumentswillnotbeentertainedandhence shouldNOTbe sent to the JEE (Advanced)-UCEED-CEEDoffice. TheAdmitCardandtheScoreCardofCEEDwillincludethephotographandsignaturesubmittedbythecandidate.Submissionofpoorqualityphotographand/orsignaturemayleadtotherejectionofCEEDregistration.

CEEDMeritList(Rank)willbepreparedasperthecategoryprovidedbythecandidateintheCEEDregistrationform.Hence,itistheresponsibilityofthecandidatetofurnishthecorrectcategorycertificateintheonlineregistrationform.

It will entirely be the responsibility of the candidate to provide the correct informationregardingthequalifyingexamandcategory,anduploadthecorrectdocumentsintherequiredformats in the registration form. Registration forms incomplete in any respect will besummarily rejectedand the registrationwill be considered invalid. Theadmitting instituteshavetherighttocancel,atanystage,theadmissionofacandidateinaccordancewiththerulesand regulations in force, if it is found that any information provided by the candidate isincorrectortheregistrationisincomplete.

1.9 Syllabus CEED2019willbeintwoparts.PartAwillhavequestionsrelatedtothesetopics:

• Visualization and spatial ability: Pictorial and diagrammatic questions to test theunderstandingoftransformationand/ormanipulationof2Dshapesand3Dobjectsandtheirspatialrelationships.

• Environmentalandsocialawareness:Generalawarenessofenvironmentalfactorssuchasclimate,population,water,vegetation,pollution,weather,naturalresourcesetc.,and their implications on the design of products, images, infrastructure andenvironment.Awarenessofdesignterminologies,socialandculturalconnectionwithdesign,historyofthedesignedartefact,andsociallyresponsibleandenvironmentallysustainabledesignresponses.Historyofart,sculptureandliterature.

• Analyticalandlogicalreasoning:Abilitytoanalysegiveninformationlogicallyandselectthe most appropriate solutions. Ability to weigh opinions, arguments or solutionsagainstappropriatecriteria.Abilitytouselogicandstructuredthinkingtodeducefromashortpassage,whichofanumberofstatementsisthemostaccurateresponsetoaposedquestion.

• Language and creativity: Ability to understand passages in commonly used Englishlanguage. Ability to think creatively in terms of alternatives, ability to distinguishinnovativeoptionsandthinkoutofthebox.

• Designthinkingandproblemsolving:Abilitytounderstandthecontext,theusersandtheconstraintsandselectthemostappropriatesolutionforagivendesignproblem.

• Observationanddesignsensitivity:Abilitytodetectconcealedpropertiesindaytodaylife and think critically about them. Ability to discern subtle differences in visualpropertiesandaestheticoutcomes.

PartBofCEED2019willhavequestionsrelatedtothesetopics:

• Drawing: Ability to draw products, people or scenes in proportion with good linequality,composition,proportion,perspective,andshading.

• Creativity:Abilitytothinkoutoftheboxandcomeupwithuniqueaswellasdiversesolutions.

• Communicationskills:Abilitytocommunicateconceptsandideasclearlywiththehelpoftextandvisuals.

• Analyticalandproblemsolvingskills:Abilitytounderstandtheuserandthecontext,knowledgeofpropertiesofmaterialsandprocessandtheirappropriateuseindesign,originalityofsolutions,abilitytocreatecharacters,plotsandstories,etc.

CEED2019isanaptitudetestandhencenospecifictextbookorguideisrecommendedforitspreparation.Thecandidatesmayhoweverpracticetheirdrawing,renderingandvisualizationskills.QuestionpapersofsomeofthepreviousyearsareavailableontheCEEDwebsite.


1.10 At the Examination Centre on January 19, 2019 Reporting time: Candidates should report at the examination centre at 8:00 hours onSaturday,January19,2019alongwithacolourprintoutoftheadmitcard.Thisisrequiredtorecordthebiometric information(thumbimpressionandphotograph)beforeappearingfortheexamination.ExaminationTime:10.00–13.00hrs.

Identityproof:Thecandidateshouldbringavalidphotoidentityproof(original)alongwiththeadmit card to theexaminationcentre.Candidateswill notbeadmitted to theexaminationcentrewithoutaproperidentityproof(collegeissuedidentitycard,passport,drivinglicense,PANcard,VoterIDorAadhaarcard).

Stationery:Candidatesmustbring theirownpencils, sketchpens,postercoloursandotherdrawingmaterials for the examination. Candidates shouldnot bringdrawing sheets to theexaminationhall.

Electronicgadgetssuchasmobilephones,calculators,smartordigitalwatchesetc.areNOTallowedintheexaminationhall.Useofanyelectronicgadgetwilldisqualifythecandidate.

Theseatingarrangementwillbedisplayedonthenoticeboardoftheexaminationcentre.

1.11 Result Declaration ResultDeclarationDate:March4,2019

CEEDresultwillbedisplayedontheCEEDwebsite(www.ceed.iitb.ac.in).

TheCEED2019scorecardisvalidforaperiodofoneyearfromthedateofdeclarationoftheresult.TheCEED2019scorecardcannotbetreatedasaproofofdateofbirth,categoryordisabilitystatus.
