You may have noticed that the last couple issues have been kind of skimpy, but that’s not for lack of submissions. Peel, Inc, our publisher distributes this newsletter for us at no charge, and they keep the ad revenue. Unfortunately, the current economic conditions have led to reduced ad placements, which results in smaller newsletters and the omission of some articles that were turned in. I receive a crime update every day showing a map of Cedar Park with all crime locations indicated on it and Cedar Park Town Center has almost become a sanctuary as almost every day there is crime all around us. As a result, I was sensing a troubling attitude of complacency from you and my neighbors. en, in late September, lightning struck. At 3:00 AM on September 30, a resident on Main Street woke up hearing someone slam a crow bar in to his back door lock. As he approached the door there was a second attempt but when he turned on the back light the intruder ran off. Very brazen and bold by the intruder. Please turn on your garage lights and put locks on your gates. Let’s be vigilant and keep our neighborhood safe. We have a safe neighborhood but don’t hesitate to call the police if you see a crime being committed or if something looks suspicious to you. We have lost some Block Captains due to changing job requirements and relocations and we need some new members. Nobody but us is going to keep our neighborhood safe, so please join us. HELLO FROM THE POOL COMMITTEE Yesterday we were walking by the pool and I noticed the lock on the gate that leads into the bathroom area was all messed up. Apparently someone had tried to jimmy it open. ey neglected to notice that there was a chain holding the gate shut as well… but nobody said vandals were rocket scientists. Anyway, I did file a police report.is brought to mind that when or if any of you are out walking and pass by the pool/ playground area, we still need to be vigilant about  doing a simple walk-around to be sure everything is okay. With fewer residents using the area, it’s more susceptible to vandalism, so we really need to keep a close eye on it. If you see anything that isn’t right, please report it the police at 911 if it’s an emergency or 512-260-4600 for non-emergencies, And please let me know too at 512-658-9605 (or 9604). ank you, Diana Walsh - Pool Comm. VOLUNTEERS NEEDEDTO SPREAD CRUSHED GRANITE

ON OUR NEW HIKE & BIKE TRAIL

Would you like to see an outdoor hike and bike trail in our community? If so, would you be willing to help on a Saturday or Sunday (or other day?) and help make this a reality in Cedar Park Town Center? My name is Brian Collins and I’m trying to get the trail segments around our two water retention ponds connected by crushed granite trails similar to Austin’s Ladybird (Town) Lake. Once complete, we will be able to walk, bike, or run around the ponds without having to back-track or walk through tall weeds or over dangerous rocky terrain.

The City has completed a number of projects in Cedar Park when residents express an interest in participating either financially or by providing labor. We were shot down on prior appeals to the Parks Board and City Council when they were asked to complete the trails as standalone City projects. I am, therefore, trying a different approach. Our citizenry will demonstrate how much interest we have in having this park amenity improved as a benefit for the entire City. We need to be willing to offer our time and labor to make it happen.

In a meeting with Curt Randa (Cedar Park Recreation Department Director)  and his superintendent  last month,  Mr. Randa seemed fairly comfortable saying that if we can participate by providing light labor in spreading the granite around, he could more readily convince the City to release funding for the improvements. He will purchase crushed granite and provide some city labor to run the Bobcat to complete initial scraping of the trail (there will also be some engineering involved up front to make sure that the trail meets certain codes). We, the residents of Town Center, will provide the labor to move the granite from the piles to the trail bed and spread it.

Mr. Randa anticipated that a January or February schedule before he would have any necessary engineering completed and be able to commit his work force to carving the trail out. There are also some water analysis issues (storm water drainage, et al) that will need to be addressed. If you are interested in helping make our hike and bike trail a reality, please e-mail me your contact information or call me with questions, and/or additional suggestions.
