• The principality of Asturias is one of the seventeen autonomous communities in Spain. It has a wide variety of landscapes, which combine green and rugged mountains, white sand beaches, rocky beaches, and a vast extension of green and natural landscape.

ECONOMY • The economy of Asturias

has a declining primary sector which employs 20% of the active population with beef production, agriculture (corn, potatoes and apples) and fishing.

• The mining of coal remains significant, but it is not as

important as it once was.

• The secondary sector employs 33% of the active population, and includes steel, food, shipyards, weapons, chemicals, transportation equipment , and so on.
