SMC vs. Thermoplastics

Unlike thermoplastics, SMC does not weaken under the effect of a heat source or melt when exposed to flame, thereby preventing the spread of fire. SMC also has good resistance to standard solvents as well as alkaline agents.

CE-TEK have specifically introduced the “CAB” enclosure portfolio to offer a highly flexible and adaptable range of wall or pole mounted housings for a wide variety of Electrical, Electronic or Data/Tele-Com applications, and have chosen to manufacture these from a composite material known as SMC (Sheet Moulding Compound) which is a type of Glass Reinforced Polyester (GRP).

SMC is extremely robust, UV stable, and corrosion resistant whilst also having good resistance to heat and excellent mechanical shock resilience.
