    The SSB procedure consists of two stage Selection process-stage I and stage-II. Onlythose candidates who clear the stage I are permitted to appear for stage II. The detailsare :-(a) Stage I comprises of Officer Intelligence Rating OIR) tests are Picture Perception*Description Test (PP&DT). The candidates will be shortlisted based on combination ofperformance in QIR Test and PP and DT.(b) Stage II Comprises of Interview, Group Testing Officer Tasks, Psychology Tests andthe Conference. These tests are conducted over 4 days. The details of these tests aregiven on the website www.joinindianarmy.nic.inThe personality of candidate is assessed by three different assessors viz. the inter-viewing Officer (IO), Group Testing Officer (GTO) and the Psychologist. There are noseparate weightage for each test. The mks are allotted by assessors only after takinginto consideration the performance of the candidate holistically in all the test. In addi-tion, marks for Conference are also allotted based on the initial performance of theCandidate in the three techniques and decision of the Board. All these have equalweightage.The various tests of IO, GTO and Psych are designed to bring out the presence/absenceof Officer Like Qualities and their trainability in a candidate. Accordingly candidates areRecommended or Not Recommended at the SSB.

    Note II : Permanent body tattoos are onlyPermitted on inner face of forearm i.e.from inside of elbow to the wrist and onthe reverse side of palm/back (dorsal)side of hand. Permanent body tattoos onany other part of the body are notacceptable and candidates will be barredfrom further selection. Tribes with tattoomarks on the face or body as per theirexisting custom and traditions will bepermitted on a case to case basis.

    Redial Keratotmy (RK) and

    Photo Refractive Keratotomy (PRK) surgery for

    correction of refractive errors are not permitted

    for any air force duties. Candidates having

    undergone cataract surgery with or without IOLimplants will also be declared unfit.

    (i) Candidates selected for training at the IndianNaval Academy will be appointed as Cadets underthe Graduate Cadet Special Entry Scheme (GSES)Course. The selection of the cadets is based onthe candidate qualifying in the Combined DefenceServices Examination (CDSE), followed by SSBinterview and Medical Examination. Meritoriouscandidates who are medically fit are appointed tothe 45 vacancies in the order of merit, Six of these45 vacancies are reserved for Naval NCC 'C'Certificate holding candidates under the NCCSpecial Entry Scheme.(ii) Selection of Cadets from the National CadetCorps. The eligibility, age-limits, educational qual-ifications for candidates applying under the NCCSpecial Entry Scheme are the same as the GSEScandidates except for the following :-

    (a) NCC Cadets graduating in science in Physicsand Mathematics are permitted to apply besidesthose possessing a degree in Engineering.(b) A NCC Cadet must have served for not lessthan two academic years in the Senior Division,Naval Wing of the National Cadet Corps, and mustbe in possession of Certificate 'C' (Naval). Thosewho have appeared or intend to appear for certifi-cate 'C' examination are also eligible to apply buttheir final selection shall depend on producingthe Certificate before the commencement of thecourse.(c) The NCC Cadet must be in possession of acertificate of good conduct and character fromhis University or Principal of his College.(d) A NCC Cadet shall not be eligible to apply aftertwelve months of leaving the Senior Division,Naval Wing of the National Cadet Corps.(e) In order to apply, a cadet must submit hisapplication to his Officer Commanding, N.C.C.Unit, Naval Wing who shall forward it through the

    Circle Commander concerned to the N.C.C.Directorate, Ministry of Defence, New Delhi. TheN.C.C Directorate will forward the applications tothe Chief of the naval Staff. The applications shallbe submitted on the prescribed form. Theseforms will be available at all N.C.C. Units.(f) Candidate who are considered prima facie suit-able shall be required to appear before a ServicesSelection Board for interview and other tests.(g) Candidates to be finally selected should atleast secure the minimum qualifying marks at theServices Selection Board. Subject to this condi-tion and to their being declared medically fit, suc-cessful candidates shall be placed in the order ofmerit based on the total marks secured in the writ-ten examination and the Service Selection Boardinterview. The final selection shall be made in theorder of merit up to the number of vacanciesavailable.

    (vi) Training : Selected candidates may beappointed as cadets on reporting at theIndian Naval Academy. The candidatesshall remain under probation till comple-tion of initial training which is as follows.a) Naval orientation course of INA 44 WeeksEzhimalab) Officers Sea Training atTraining Ship 06 monthsc) Sub-Leiutenant A float Training 06 Monthsd) Sub-Leiutenant (Technical Course) 32 Weekse) Afloat Attachment for award of MinimumFull Naval Watch-keeping 06 MonthsCertificate(v) Commissioning & Other Benefits : Thecadets shall be commissioned in the rankof Sub-Leiutnenant after successful com-

    pletion of approximately 18 months oftraining. The career prospects, leave ben-efits, leave and travel concession.Pensionary/retirements benefits and allsuch perks and privileges provided toofficers in the Navy in similar to thosebeing provided by the two services.
