Learning the technicalities of singing such as correct breathing, diction, tone

production, etc. is one major aspect of singing that we always focus on but nevertheless developing an individual’s performing skills must go hand in hand with the former.

It’s an advantage if you’re gifted with natural performing skills but the possibility of having that is only 1 out of 10 individuals.

For the span of almost Four years in teaching youngsters out of 25 students only 2 students are naturally gifted so the rest developed their performing skills as time went by.

Generally taking voice lessons should also include performing skills enhancement because without doing such mastering the technicalities of singing will be of waste when one singer still stands on stage like a dead person.

Like what my mentor said when you are on stage the audience owns you like it or not.

In short when you are a singer then you are a performer.

This should always be the mindset of somebody who is developing his/ her singing skills.

Sad to say many beginners have the wrong mindset like “they just want to develop their singing skills for private use meaning they wouldn’t want people to see them sing.” It’s really in contrast of what a singer should be so it’s the teacher’s responsibility to correct such mind set and push them out to sing out for an audience.

Developing the technical aspects and performing skills side by side maybe hard at the start but eventually it becomes easy. When I started singing it was really difficult to stand on stage without overwhelming fear.

I had several voice teachers back then so technically I was able to develop my singing skills but when I was in front of people it was a different thing. It was only in college that I was able to realize that I lack a lot of performing skills.

Thank God at that time I was also given the chance and privilege to participate and play a major role for a musical play.

Our rehearsals include a lot of acting workshops so my performing skills were greatly enhanced.

It was only after that musical that my singing performances improved. I learned correct focus, conquered stage fright, appropriate gestures, and shifting my emotions to deliver lyrics like a story.

I wouldn’t have the confidence today if it was not because of those workshops and exposures but you don’t need to wait until college to engage into such, now that I’m also tutoring kids I’m strongly encouraging them that while they are still in school they should also get into clubs that enhance their skills like the glee club or the drama club.

Yes it could be tiring at some point because you also need to balance it with academics but learning time management at a younger age is a great advantage in the longer run.

I highly encourage the parents to give more time to their youngsters in developing their musical or artistic skills. It takes a long time to reap just like investments for properties but it could be your greatest reap because of the joy when you see your child perform like a pro on stage... years from now.

I have personally seen the scenarios during our previous recitals ... kids who have stayed with me for more than a year have also grown in their skills.

I just couldn’t help but smile seeing their parents’ happy faces while their kids are performing on stage.

The joy is incomparable even as a teacher how much more if you are the parent?

I salute to the parents who support their kids not just in their academics but who also try their best to develop the special skills of their kids.

Keep it on!

INSPIRING YOUNG MINDS

Just a few days ago, I had the chance to meet the incoming young student leaders of Liceo

U. It was my third year to have been invited to be with them and share my insights on becoming a leader and how to motivate other people.

Honestly, I never really thought of myself as the kind that can inspire others although it has always been my mission to create positive impact in any way I can.

The experience of being in front of bright young minds always fascinates me.

It seemed like I am the one absorbing new learning instead of imparting some to them!

Their enthusiasm, energy and abilities to think outside the box make me more inspired to do better in what I do and hopefully provide them a platform to enrich and grow in return.

I too was a student leader once but through these changing times, the way leaders have to think, act and react have evolved as well thus making their jobs more challenging and complex.

Although some of the basic principles remain the same, what we have experienced and learned from

the past may not be as effective today. That is why I admire these young

movers and shakers in taking on the roles of herding their generation towards what is good and what is right.

During the entire activity with them, I saw a flicker of hope that there will be greatness ahead.

Empowering them made me

become more appreciative of how we all can truly create ripples of change.

So what makes a leader? We all have our opinions.

One thing’s for sure these young people who are here to lead the new

breed of students are what define our future.

If we all nurture them well and guide them in all aspects, they can become great future leaders of the land.

If today we have a long list of questionable politicians, who knows in the not so distant future, one of these bright young minds will bring back our trust and faith in the government and in ourselves as a people.

What can you do to inspire the young?

Lots! And what do these young people do to inspire us all?

There are many! In this world where one act triggers a chain of so many reactions, it is best to live a life that sends out positive energy to receive the same as well.

So never question the young for we were young once, try to understand the times they are going through and inspire them to become the best that they can be and who knows, you too have grown in mind and in spirit as well.

Have a wonderful week ahead and thanks for reading!

"À bientôt!"

“In this world where one act triggers a chain of so many reactions, it is best to live a life that sends out positive energy to receive the same as well.”

We, Filipinos are experts when it comes to giving advice. They seem to know exactly the right things to say when

someone comes up to them asking for advice. We are all like that aren’t we? I’m guilty.

I’m like a walking advice machine. It’s kind of amusing; when I really think

about it because what I realize is that I never follow my own advice.

I try to search far and wide for answers to my own questions, even turning to friends for help and yet I never noticed that the answers I require, I already know.

The only thing stopping me is fear.Fear is a formidable entity to reckon with.

While makes some only tremble, it makes the

most of us completely shut down, taking away our willpower.

I’ve always been afraid to take that jump, to trust my own decisions. I’ve never been the type to let go of all the fears holding me back and I’m the type of person who over thinks things.

This is when I talk to a friend about what’s keeping me awake at night.

But lately, I’ve realized that all we have to do is look in the mirror and ask ourselves for advice.

After all, who knows you better than you? Nobody is more acutely aware of your situation.

Nobody is more familiar with every

particular scenario and potential outcome than you.

So why do we turn to another person so often for advice?

Because it’s easy. If someone tells us what to do, we don’t even have to think.

Or, sometimes we ask other people for advice to reaffirm our own advice. But other people rarely have a stake in the outcome of taking their advice, which makes it less valid than your own point of view.

Sure, it’s OK to ask others for advice—sometimes it’s great to have a clean pair of eyes—but remember, at the end of the day, it is you who has to live with your own decisions. Take a leap of faith and trust yourself.

GENERAL Santos City - Philippine Veterans Bank (PVB) continues to be optimistic on the economic growth of General Santos City that it has recently relocated its local branch signifying its commitment to remain a steadfast financial partner of the city government, local businesses and the local populace.

PVB’s GenSan branch has moved to a new and better location - to the Tri-Star Building along Santiago Boulevard just a few meters from its old site, and with the newly relocated branch, it has made itself more convenient and more comfortable to its clients in the area, especially the hundreds of World War II veterans who draw their old-age pensions from the bank.

The bank is also a depository of the City Government and benefits from the unique LGU-focused services that only PVB offers.

In addition, the bank believes that it can continue to generate more business from

GenSan’s agro-industrial and tuna fishing sectors especially now that PVB offers innovative products and services that will help local businesses manage their finances.

With its newly-relocated branch, the bank hopes to spread the word that a revitalized PVB is emerging following the new leadership that have taken helm last year led by its former Philippine Finance Secretary Roberto de Ocampo, OBE who has assumed chairmanship of the bank; along with seasoned banker Joey Bermudez as its President and CEO.

Along with the rest of the management and staff of the bank, Chairman De Ocampo and Pres. Bermudez hope to make PVB an active player not only in the local banking scene but in the global banking industry as well.

To celebrate the rebirth of Its GenSan branch, PVB will be inaugurating the branch today via a simple ribbon-cutting ceremony to be led by the bank president,

Mr. Bermudez, PVB Director Percianita Racho and EVP and Branch Banking Group Head Jesus Vicente Garcia along with special guests General Santos City Mayor Ronnel Rivera and Sarangani Provincial Governor Steve Solon.

Other PVB officials expected to grace the occasion include VP and Branch Central Services Head Alfredo Santiago, VP and Corporate Communications Head Miguel Angelo Villa-Real, AVP and Branch Expansion Head Jose Francisco Ramos, and AVP and Mindanao Area Head Tranquilino Morante.

Veterans Bank is a private commercial bank owned by World War II veterans and their descendants. It has 60 branches nationwide and also caters to private and corporate retail markets. As part of its mandate, Veterans Bank allocates 20% of its annual net income for the benefit of World War II veterans and their heirs through medical and livelihood programs.

CDO to compete in Ultimate Championship GamesThe Cagayan de Oro City ultimate team One CDO

is set to participate in Philippine Ultimate National Championships 2014, May 30-31, 2014 at E-Park of

Tagum City. The championship will gather 50 teams all over

the country, said game coach and Board President of Philippine Ultimate Association (PUA) Jasper “Peng” Manlapaz during a visitation and sports camp held in Gran Europa, CDO.

Ultimate is a sport played through a 175 grams flying disc.

It is composed of seven members each team and is played on a rectangular field about half the width of a football field, with an end zone at each end.

Each team targets to score a goal by having a player catch a pass in the end zone that they are attacking.

The handler of the disc must not run and should pass it to his running teammate.

Any time a pass is incomplete, a turnover occurs and the other team may take the disc to score in the opposite end zone.

Commonly, game is played to 17 goals and last around 100 minutes.

Manlapaz also shares that Ultimate is not only a typical game, it teaches players the ‘spirit of the game’ which include honesty, integrity and respect for opponents.

Ultimate is a self-refereed and non-contact game. The ‘spirit of the game’ guides how players referee the

game and to maintain proper conduct on the field.Other than the national championship, Manlapaz

and PUA are looking forward to Manila Spirit X, an international tournament that is considered as their biggest event happening in November of this year at the Ayala Alabang Country Club, Manila.

It will bring together more than 70 Ultimate clubs all over the world that include clubs from Bangkok, Beijing, Cambodia, Hanoi, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Shanghai, Singapore, Taiwan and Tokyo.

The Philippine Ultimate Association built in 2003 is continuing their mandate in promoting this game through these tournaments.

Aside from these are educational campaigns and trainings headed by PUA’s Vice President for Education Jamel Pangandaman.

The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines has granted Italpinas Euroasian Design

and Eco-Development Corp. (ITPI), developer of the internationally-awarded mixed-use condo building Primavera Residences in Cagayan de Oro, exclusive rights to use the “Eco-Logic™” trademark to identify its products and services, further establishing ITPI’s role as a pioneer in sustainable property development in the country.

ITPI is a young Italian-Filipino property developer known for its advocacy for, and practice of sustainable architecture and development. The company draws from nature itself when designing intelligent and energy efficient properties.

"Eco-Logic™" represents the company's unique approach to property development, which is to use cost-effective, innovative, performance-based technology and methods.

"Eco-Logic™" also represents the process of designing a building that functions in accordance to its natural environment − a more intelligent approach that minimizes the use of expensive materials and reduces environmental impact.

Cost effective measures include passive energy-saving design features such as shadow and sunlight control and wind cooling; as well as active energy production from renewable sources.

State-of-the-art simulation software

is used to analyze the behavior of sunlight, wind flow and ground movement in and around buildings.

Construction materials and manpower are locally sourced to reduce the need to transport materials and consumption of fossil fuel and to help contribute to the growth of local economy.

"There is a common misconception that building green properties is expensive and will require the use of high-tech, imported materials. This doesn't have to be so. You just need to come up with a design that makes use of affordable but effective materials that will enable a building to be sustainable in the long run. The trick is to combine functionality with aesthetics," said ITPI executive chairman and CEO Arch. Romolo V. Nati.

“In fact, investing in green properties can be very profitable. Primavera Residences for instance has a proven real estate appreciation of more than 10% per annum. Given

its location at Pueblo de Oro Business Park beside SM CdO, units at Primavera Residences are very easy to rent out. Buyers may already pay their installment with revenue generated from the rent,” he added.

The 10-storey, twin-tower Primavera Residences is ITPI’s first project in the Cagayan de Oro. The

building is designed to maximize natural ventilation. Its exterior walls are fitted with window-shading cantilevers, preventing much direct sunlight from reaching the insides of the units. It has a green inner courtyard that acts as a natural chimney, forcing warm air to move upward.

“Through just the passive design of the building, our unit owners are enjoying up to 20% savings in energy. In June,

photovoltaic solar panels will be installed on the rooftop and these will generate enough energy to light and power the common areas,” said Nati.

Because of its many green features, Primavera Residences has received several recognitions from international award-giving bodies. It recently won in the 2014-2015 Asia Pacific regional competition of the prestigious International Property Awards in the Best Mixed-use Development category for the Philippines.

Units at Primavera Residences are ready for occupancy. To inquire, visit www.primaveraresidences.com or call (63) 917 7921080. To learn more about ITPI, go to http://italpinas.com.

JanSport®, the original outdoor gear Brand that equips people globally with quality backpacks, travel gear and collegiate apparel, has launched its FALL 2014 collection featuring iconic silhouettes in fresh colors and prints, as well as, brand new styles for the season.

After 47 years JanSport still proves to be the top Brand in the backpack industry. Along with the brand’s continued success is its constant battle with the prevalence of inauthentic JanSport bags that are commonly being sold online and through other unauthorized sellers. This problem is not only a concern here in the Philippines but in other countries as well.

As such, the brand has launched its global campaign, Accept No Imitations.

True to this initiative the JanSport Right Pack, with its leather bottom, is the brands iconic silhouette. It has always been highly coveted by the younger crowd while its timeless appeal continues to make it ideal for those who’ve grown up with the brand.

Characterized by its suede leather bottom, one large main compartment, straight-cut padded shoulder straps, front utility pocket with organizer, and other practical features like the internal sleeve which fits a 15” laptop, web haul handle, and zippered front stash pocket, the Right Pack really is the right pack of choice for everyday use.

However, all these features can only be enjoyed when you choose an authentic JanSport pack. Just with the stitching alone, you can already see the big difference between an original JanSport pack and a counterfeit one. Why run the risk of having a faulty bag that will last you for a couple of months when you can get an original JanSport pack for a reasonable price? And this one will last you for years, no matter how much you end up using it.

So if you’re already planning to buy a new pack, check out the latest selection of JanSport packs available in authorized re-sellers and remember that JanSport Philippines sells only through accredited e-commerce sites. Always keep that in mind before you get enticed to buy a JanSport pack for a

ridiculously low price on the internet. Be original, support authentic

Gran Europa Village Center’s “City within the City” vision will soon bring commercial and institutional establishments inside the village center.

The construction of a two-storey supermarket is already under way inside Gran Europa, as of this writing.

“This project is happening now by Vista Land Commercial Division, a division under the umbrella of Vista Land and Landscapes Inc. The concept is to bring commercial and institutional within the reach of our community,” said Engr. Chrysler B. Acebu, Project Head of Vista Land Commercial Division in Visayas and Mindanao.

Gran Europa consists about 200 hectares of land that houses 12 subdivisions.

There are 3,500 houses giving more or less 11,000-12,000 individuals living in the area, rising the need for expansion in terms of services.

“That’s the mandate and as well as more of a fulfillment to our promise, of Vista Land, to our communities,” he added.

Other than the supermarket, coming also are the construction of a pharmacy, a barbershop, salon, fitness gym, bakeshop, coffee shop, business offices and medical and dental clinics.

Further, Gran Europa would also house Center for Culinary Arts (CCA) which is considered as first in Cagayan de Oro.

Five buildings including the recently introduced Georgia Academy, an educational institution, would be turned over on June.

The opening of the supermarket would be on the following month.

Engr. Acebu also disclosed that two more buildings will be constructed before the year ends.

This is a commercial arcade having 4,000 gross floor area. This arcade will offer commercial and specialized services such as lifestyle concerns and bars that are open to outsiders.

Vista Land Commercial Division decided to open this services to outsiders for they want other people to discover and know more what is in Gran Europa. He assured that even though open to outsiders, safety would never be an issue.

Further, Engr. Acebu that these projects are organized in line with the thrust of their company in promoting healthy lifestyle and enhancing family relationship.
