CD Digipack analysis – Rhianna In terms of character on this album, it is clear that the gender representation is female, with her wearing red lips and her red hair flowing down each side of her face, also has connotations of love and lust. She is also wearing false eyelashes, adding to her heavily made up look and adding to the idea and stereotype of females in the media being flirtatious and seductive. The tattoo on Rhianna’s neck is contrasting with the traditional stereotype of females, suggesting she is perhaps different from other girls in this way, giving her individuality and her own signature style. In terms of her costume her traditional style is shown on the image within the digipack with her wearing a white dress, which has connotations of a wedding dress, again alluding to the idea of love being a main and running theme with this album. Her facial expression on the front cover of the album suggests that she may be submissive and provocative as she has a slight pout and her eyes closed. The shot is a close up shot of her face but also has her bare shoulder in it, making the image slightly more revealing. What is also interesting about this album digipack is, her name isn’t in huge letters, it actually is difficult to make out, maybe suggesting how her signature style is being hidden a little in the content of this album, however the album title itself is made apparent in white text at the bottom of the screen, heading towards the terminal area. In terms of the setting of this album cover in the actual cover there is no clear setting, it is simply a close up of her face. However on the inside cover Rhianna is lay on a bed of roses, which ultimately gives the idea of love once again, her face is mostly hidden in terms of her body language, it almost looks like she’s in pain which is echoing some of the songs on the album, therefore alluding to the genre of R n B. In this image Rhianna is also occupying the primary optical area and roses are surrounding her
