Monitoring your SAP NetWeaver
Components
http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-8335#
Besides CCMS, SAP NetWeaver automatically generates statistics information, whichgives you both as aggregates a good overview, and additionally as single statistics
detailed insight what has happened.
A convenient and fast way to notify in case of problems the person in charge, can be
implemented via SAP Alert Management
Because monitoring is such an extensive topic, the relevant documents are sectored in the
following sub-topics.
Performance Monitoring with Statistical RecordsStatistical records give you an overview of the performance of your system. Each dialogstep is recorded, an information like user and program name, response time, CPU time
and more is logged. This information is very useful when you want to analyze the
performance (or a performance bottleneck) of your systems.
Alert ManagementThe Alert Management system is a business service provided by the SAP NetWeaver
Application Server. SAP provides its customers with a wide variety of functions for themanagement of information that is critical to the user's work. The information is
delivered actively and as quickly as possible. You cut considerably the costs incurred for
the management of critical situations, because the response time is reduced significantly.
The CCMS is SAPs central infrastructure for monitoring system landscapes. Keep in
mind, however, that it is running in maintenance mode. With SAP Solution Manager 7.1,
SAP will introduce the new Monitoring and Alerting Infrastructure (MAI).
Setting Up your Central MonitoringThis section contains documents about setting up your central monitoring - from thegeneral approach in the Monitoring Setup Guide to the installation of different
Monitoring Agents and the use of the SAP Management Console.

Monitoring Availability
System availability can be defined on differently depending on the technology layer:
Following a bottom up approach, the lowest level of system availability is the existenceof the corresponding processes on Operating System layer. Higher on the technology
stack is a ping or a dummy login into a system. On application level, there may exist a
real business availability check. SAP offers powerful availability checks on all layers.
Transaction RZ20: Working with Monitors and Methods
The CCMS monitoring infrastructure, a solution within SAP NetWeaver, centrally
monitors any IT environments - from individual systems through networked SAPNetWeaver solutions, to complex IT landscapes incorporating several hundred systems.
In this section, you learn about the different functions of the Alert Monitor (transaction
RZ20) - from creating your own rule-based monitors to using the predefined auto-
reaction methods of the Alert Monitor.
Enhancing your Monitoring Possibilities
This section contains documents which explain how you can extend the functions and themetrics of the monitoring infrastructure. The section focuses on expanding the standardfunctions by configuring the monitoring of new metrics (like event log messages or
qRFC/tRFC calls) and on expanding the functions of the monitoring infrastructure with
your own developments.

Performance Monitoring with Statistical
Records
You can display statistics about the system load in the following ways:
The workload monitor displays statistical data from the local ABAP system. Theworkload overview enables you to analyze the performance of a system. A widerange of analysis views and data helps you to find the source of performance
problems quickly and easily.
The global workload monitor displays statistics for entire landscapes, includingstatistics for non-ABAP components. For example, in this monitor you candisplay the load data created when external components are started.
Whereas the global workload monitor shows only aggregated data, you can usethe functional trace to display raw statistical data (single records) from both
ABAP systems and non-ABAP systems in complex system landscapes.
Tools
Workload Monitor(SAP Help Portal)
You can use the workload monitor (transaction ST03) to analyze statistical data for the
ABAP kernel. You can display the total values for all instances, and compare theperformance of particular instances over a period of time. A wide range of analysis viewsand data helps you to find the source of performance problems quickly and easily.
Global Workload Monitor(SAP Help Portal)
The Global Workload Monitor (transaction ST03G) displays statistical records for entirelandscapes and therefore allows you to analyze statistics data for both ABAP and non-
ABAP systems.
Setting up the Global Workload Monitor(SAP Tutor)
The Global Workload Monitor (transaction ST03G) displays statistical records for entire
landscapes and therefore allows the analysis of statistical data both for ABAP and forDSR components. The SAP Tutor contains the setup of the Global Workload Monitor for

the most important cases, namely displaying the statistical data for ABAP, Java, and
double-stack systems.
Functional Trace(SAP Help Portal)
The functional trace displays statistics records and traces from ABAP systems and fromnon-ABAP systems (DSRs).
Alert Management with SAP NetWeaver
Application Server
The Alert Management system is a business service provided by the SAP NetWeaverApplication Server. SAP provides its customers with a wide variety of functions for the
management of information that is critical to the user's work. The information is
delivered actively and as quickly as possible. You cut considerably the costs incurred for
the management of critical situations, because the response time is reduced significantly.
The user can choose which medium is used for the delivery of this information. Importantinformation can be delivered by e-mail, to a cellular phone or other hand-held device, or
to the Universal Work List (UWL) within the Enterprise Portal. The user can also use
subscription to determine the subjects that are relevant for him or her, and the business
conditions about which he or she wishes to be notified.
The cornerstone of Alert Management is the central Alert Framework, the infrastructurefor generating, sending, and displaying alerts. Alert Management contents are provided
by SAP applications and external partner products. You find detailed information on
Alert Management under the following links:
