Cactus Chatter Sphinx Court #65 - Phoenix, Arizona January 2015 Lady Bea Hillman - Grand High Priestess Recorder L.O.S.N.A. INC. ACTIVATED APRIL 10, 1954 High Priestess The High Priestess’ Message 2014 was a trying year for all of us. Here’s hoping 2015 is healthier, happier and brighter. The gift wrapping was a tremendous success! The $1000.00 goal was exceeded. We made a total of $1281.00 between the Barnes and Nobles’ days and the 3 days at Half Price Books. Not only did we make money but we met some very nice people. Even got some names for the membership tea. This was a wonderful court project and was a success because of the entire court by donating gift wrapping items, bringing gifts to be wrapped, making a dona- tion and working, to include a long time member that I've never met, Joann Jones. What a wonderful surprise! Jo- ann, we are looking forward to seeing you in court. Thank you so much. Again, Sphinx Court has made me a proud Mama! But alas, there is still work to be done! Want a trip down memory lane? Dig out the bobby socks, poodle skirts, cuffed jeans, penny loafers and hula hoops (hope there's a contest). On Friday February 13th there's going to be a sock hop! Associate Princess Karen MacDougall and Prophetess Deb Jones are heading this event so contact them for more info. The carnival is returning on Saturday March 14th in the El Zaribah auditorium. This is another big court fund raiser and I'm confident that I can count on all of you. We are now making money on the charms and still have more to sell. January, February, and March are the last 3 months to be eligible for the contest of bringing back old members. It's not too late to join the race. Don't let the $50.00 gift card to Outback Steak House go to waste. Our next court meeting is Monday January 19th. The date has been changed due to the Daughters of the Nile Supreme Queen's Official Visit. Please check the roster to see if your address and phone number are correct. A few aren't. Please note I only have a cell phone now. The number is 602-791-0925. HAPPY NEW YEAR! The High Priestess’ Message 2014 was a trying year for all of us.

What a wonderful surprise! Jo-ann, we are looking forward to seeing you in court. Thank you so much. Again, Sphinx Court has made me a proud Mama!

But alas, there is still work to be done! Want a trip down memory lane? Dig out the bobby socks, poodle skirts, cuffed jeans, penny loafers and hula

hoops (hope there's a contest).

We are now making money on the charms and sti l l have more to sell. January, February, and March are the last 3 months to be eligible for the contest of bringing back old members. It's not too late to join the race. Don't let the $50.00 gift card to Outback Steak House go to waste.

Officers’ Offerings Princess

Happy New Year to each and every member. I have been exploring prices for Grand Council in Orlando, Florida, and they are not getting any cheaper. Southwest Airlines is still in the $400 range, and United, US Air/American are in the $500 range. I hope they start coming down soon, but I am not holding my breath for that

event. I will keep you posted on new information. I am looking forward to seeing you at the Court Meeting this month. Gina's year is winding down and we still

have some fun events coming up. She has given us a fun year and the gift wrapping was really fun and very successful. Dragonfly Luck, Lab Licks, and Lighthouse Love,

Lady Mimi Bohlman Home: 480-946-6292 Cell: 602-738-3628 email: [email protected]

Associate Princess Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a nice holiday and you are ready to get back in the swing of things. For the January 19th meeting I hope you will bring some donations for my Special Project, the two entertainment budgets for the Salt Lake City Hospital. The donations will help fund children to

participate in the Courage Reins Program and the Un-Limb-ited Amputee Activity Camps. With your help we will be able to send some of the children on an adventure out of the hospital. Let’s start 2015 with a bang and help the children!

Second Ceremonial Lady Happy New Year, Ladies! We have had a difficult holiday season, but the best thing about a New Year is the hope of better times. There is an Irish saying I would like to send to all the Ladies of the Court: “I wish you all you could wish for yourself”.

January is very busy at the Shrine! The Installation of a new Potentate, the LOS Membership Tea, and the LOSNA Court Meeting on Monday, January 19th. Please take the time to attend the Court Dinner before the Meeting. This is a great way to catch up with everyone on their holiday happenings.

The Directors Staff Ladies will be serving Pasta Primavera with Chicken, which is always a favorite. The Dinner starts at 5:30pm and the charge is $10.00. These Dinners are the main fundraising activity for Directors Staff, so let’s support the Ladies by attending. Call me at (602) 503-6045 or email me at [email protected] to RSVP. Just a reminder, please let me know if you are on the permanent list and will not be able to make the Din-ner.

Clowns Happy New Year Ladies! Here’s hoping the holidays and the New Year have brought you and your family joy and happiness. The Unit had a wonderful Christmas party. What a great time. The men’s Clown Unit presented us with a check for our face painting at the Shrine Circus. What an honor and a pleasure. We marched in the Florence parade with the Patrol Unit and the Potentate had his coming out as a clown! What great fun we had. After the parade we all went to lunch. Good times! We also were delighted to have been invited to face paint and clown around at Luke Air Force Base for the fighter wing family Christmas party, what a great time, the kids were great and it was great to honor those men and women who serve so honorably. We also face painted at the Shrine annual patients’ party. Hugs were the best reward! Please feel free to attend our Unit meeting the 2nd Thursday of the month at 7pm and join us for dinner at the Red Fez room at 5pm. We have such fun! Come and join us. “A purpose is not something that you’re going to find. It’s something that will find you. And it will find you only when you’re ready and not before.”

Lady Lisa Gilbertson, Vice President

Ceremonial Pageantry Happy New Year to everyone. May 2015 be the

best year yet! To those who have lost loved ones, we extend our thoughts and prayers.

Our next meeting will be on January 14th and the election of officers will be on February 20th.

Lady Jean Glover, PHP, President

Director Staff Thank goodness the Holidays are behind us! But didn’t we have fun? So many nice parties to attend – and the Director Staff Party was just GREAT! We had lots of members in attendance, the food was great, the games were fun and all present seemed to have a wonderful time! Our first meeting in the New Year was on January 5th – and as you know, we have elections coming up in February. We are proud to say that Lady Debbie Ort-man joined our ranks in November. It was a huge blow to Director Staff, and to our Court, in general, when we lost our dear Lady Barbara Hineman, PHP. She fought a valiant fight and stayed involved in doings until right up to the end. Rest in Peace, Barb, we’ll always miss you. Our Ceremonial is scheduled for February 21st. And don’t forget our Sock Hop scheduled for February 11, 2015. Got to get those tickets sold! So keep busy, happy, safe, well and happy and keep working for the kids!

Lady Linda DuBois, PHP, Assistant Chief

Greeters Unit Greetings for the New Year. The next meeting of the greeters is February 7th at

the Black Angus at Metro center east drive at 11:30. This meeting will be election of officers. If anyone is interested in any of the offices now is the time, we will welcome any member that is willing to help to support the Unit as an officer. New Officers bring new Ideas and help grow the Unit and the Organization.

We look forward to seeing you there. Please call or text with your RSVP to Kathy Kelley at 480-797-9601.

See you at court. Bear Hugs,

Lady Kathy Kelley, President

Sphinx Patrol Greetings from Sphinx Patrol – and Happy 2015 to one and all! It was a very busy holiday season and I, for one, will be glad to be back into the swing of things. Our OV with Lady Gina Baird, HP, is coming up on January 6, 2015, and I can pretty much tell you now that it will be a great OV for a great HP. I am proud to tell you that we now have four new members of our great Patrol group: Ladies Kay Hoover, Betsey Ozee, Linda Smith, and Nancy White have joined us and we’re hoping that those of you who have NOT visited us yet, will do so and perhaps join, too. We are a pretty low key group and we have a really good time learning how to march. AND, several of us even marched (walked) in the Florence Parade in late November. It was so much fun and we’re hoping to do it more and more in other parades. Our Christmas Party was wonderful – thanks to Lady Andie Lacombe for opening her beautiful home to us and cooking most of the dinner for us. You really missed something if you didn’t get to see how beautifully decorated her home was. It was an amazing evening – we had such a good time and a great turnout! And last but not least, lots of our Patrol members got out there and helped with Christmas Gift Wrapping. I’m proud of our girls! We earned lots of money for the Court. We are going to get really busy now with our upcoming events – particularly our Sock Hop in February. In the meantime, stay well, healthy, and happy and keep on working for the kids!

Lady Linda DuBois, PHP, Captain

PHP Club Welcome ladies to 2015 and here is hoping it is a

Lady Trish Whalen, PHP, President

Sun Unit We have a change! Our February 6th meeting will be our election of

Have a safe and fun New Year.. Lady Joan Hardy, President
