In 2014, MFCCI become CCI France Malaysia (CCIFM), our new visual identity, name and logo, reflects the dynamic and vibrant approach of the chamber. This change is part of a global initia-tive to harmonize the visual identity of the 112 French Chambers of Commerce abroad (CCIFI) in 82 countries combined with CCI France International.

With overall volume of activities increasing by 25%, CCIFM permanent team focused on further improving its facilities.

The most significant one is certainly the increase, again, of the Business Centre capacity; while in 2013, MFCCI did move from KLCC area to KL Sentral and set its capacity at 15 closed offices (from 7 offices in the previous premises). The response was so good that by January 2014, all the 15 offices were already booked! As such, and given the situation, it was decided to further increase the capacity to 22 closed offices and 8 work stations, this way placing CCIFM as the second largest French CCI’s Business Centre in Asia, after Shangai. Located on the 6th floor of Plaza Sentral and fully dedicated to CCIFM MEMBERS ONLY, the Business center also boost 3 meeting rooms of respec-tively 18, 8 and 4 pax capacity.

Besides catering to the needs of member companies hosted in the incubator cum Business Centre, these new facilities will also allow CCIFM to organize more events in its own premises (committee meetings, breakfast talk, etc….) for its members as such further providing networking opportunities to its 250 members.

The expansion of the business center is a re-affirmation to the ever growing bilateral relationship between Malaysia and France and the effectiveness of Malaysia as the preferred business destination and a gateway to Asia for French SME’s.

With more and more French SME’s based in Malaysia, operating regionally, we embarked on our first delegation to Philippines via our network of French Chamber of Commerce successfully. We aim at conti-nuing such efforts in 2015 likely to Myanmar and Indonesia, complementing with our more common visits to Malaysian states.

The development of actions with its Malaysian and French partners happens in Malaysia of course on an almost daily basis, but also in France. In this context, we worked close with our partners, Invest KL, MIDA and Le Moci to jointly organize a round table session for French companies introducing Grand Kuala Lumpur, as a strategic crossroad in the heart of South-East Asia. The chamber and its members also actively participated in the LE MOCI special pullout on Malaysia “Malaisie Business Guide” offering French companies an outlook doing business in Malaysia. We thank you for your support and we look forward to be of service to you and take our quality of service to the next level!

Michel Lozac’h - Managing Director

The confirmation of Malaysia’s ranking by the World Bank as the 6th best country when it comes to ease of doing business and other competitive ranking have further positioned Malaysia as a preferred business destination for French companies and as a gateway to Asia.

The number of French companies establishing in Malaysian has increased significantly over the past 3 years and the Malaysian-France trade volume has doubled since 2010: exports from France to Malaysia now represent an average value of 2.5 billion Euros (excluding military equipment) and imports from Malaysia to France are valued at 2 billion euro per year. This dynamic commercial relationship was certainly the back-drop of the recent meeting between French President, Francois Hollande and Malaysia Prime Minister, Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak during the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) in Milan, during which the two Heads of States discussed potential increased collaboration in several sectors such as aerospace/aeronautic, railways, energy (including nuclear), trans-portation, water and waste management.

The recent visits of Mr. Philippe Varin, the Special Representative of the French Minister of Foreign Affairs for ASEAN and Mr. Gilles Dabezies, Deputy Chief Executive for International & European Affairs of CCI Paris/Ile-de-France, reflected the growing interest for Malaysia by French Institutions and contributed in expanding the bilateral agenda with Malaysia.

Meanwhile, the French community in Malaysia keeps expanding with a population of 4,000, leading to the projected expansion of the Lycee Francais from its current capacity of 900 to a minimum 1,200.

Locally, significant changes are being implemented by the Malaysian authorities, such as the implemen-tation the Goods & Services Tax from April 2015, which is a very important change to the way businesses will be managed and administered and will affect everybody in one way or another. This is a necessary step for Malaysia to take on its way towards achieving developed country status by 2020.

Another significant move is the on-line Expatriate Services Division (ESD) launched this year, with the aim to streamline and enhance immigration services delivery for expatriates. Besides its practical benefits in the long run, it also shows the commitment of the Malaysian Authorities towards simplifying administrative procedure at a time when most neighboring countries are just doing the opposite!

In this context, CCI France Malaysia in 2014 has stepped up its support facilities, with an increased Business Centre capacity, to further assist and support the set up in Malaysia of French companies looking at Malaysia for its domestic market opportunities and also as the increasingly ideal platform to enter the ASEAN and Asian markets. It also changed its logo and will change its name to further reflect the long standing partner-ship with Chambers of Commerce in France and their common network. All this of course while maintaining and developing its collaboration with French institutions in Malaysia and Malaysian institutions here and in France to provide the necessary support to French and Malaysian entrepreneurs.

The Board of Directors of the CCIFM remains at the disposal of all our members to continuously improve and enrich the services proposed by the Chamber. We would also like to congratulate the management and staff for the outstanding work done this year and we look forward to further growth in 2015 !
