It is estimated that over one million cats and dogs

are hit by cars each year in this country. Most

animals end up with broken bones and/or other

internal injuries. Ole and Sweetie are two victims of

such accidents. Ole, a sweet young yellow lab was

hit by a bus, and Sweetie was a young mother cat

with a litter of kittens who was hit by a car. Both

survived the accident but not without major injuries.

CCHS was called upon to help these stray animals.

Upon Vet exam it

was determined

that Ole’s front leg

had major nerve

damage and com-

plete amputation

was needed.

Sweetie suffered

from a bad break

and her leg was put

in a cast. After

both animals

received vet care at

AMC, they

returned to CCHS.

Sweetie was placed in

foster care since she was

still nursing her

babies. Ole’s recovery

was incredible. He was

like a new dog meeting

and greeting everyone at

CCHS. Having the

lame leg removed,

provided him with so

much more mobility and

after a week of recov-

ery, you would never

even know he had a leg

amputated.

CCHS is called to help animals like Ole and Sweetie

each and every month. The reasons range from

being hit by a car, abandoned and starving or abuse

but the need for CCHS to answer that call never

changes. We are able to provide such wonderful care

for these animals because of your support. 100% of

all vet care needed to help these animals is raised by

Survivors

The Littlest Survivors On October 23rd, in a box on the side of the road in Baraga, were seven malnourished, shivering little puppies.

Bones showing through their skin, hair missing from their bodies, and no food in their belly. These seven little

survivors soon found a safe haven, a warm place to curl up, plenty of food and

water and lots of love at CCHS. These are the

animals you are helping, and we so appreciate

your support. You provide us the gift to save

lives. If you would like to know how to

sponsor these pups or any of our great animals

please visit our website, send us an email or

give us a call.

Thank you for helping us help them!

Ole is Oh so Loved! I am writing to give you an update on Ole, whom we have now named Charlie. We found

Charlie while looking at adoptable dogs on petfinder.com. We were concerned at first because

he only had three legs. However, after contacting CCHS, they assured us that he would act like

any other dog and would be able to do anything a four legged dog could do. After taking some

time to think about it, we decided to schedule a visit. I think we can say that it was love at first

sight. As soon as we saw Charlie, we knew that there was no way he was not going to be coming

home with us. Our minds were made up, Charlie was going to be a Morissette. Since Charlie

has lived with us, he has become the center of our lives. It didn’t take Charlie long to come out

of his shell and he loves us all. Charlie also loves to go for long walks, multiple car rides, snug-

gling, and playing with his toys. We tell Charlie everyday that we love him and will take care of

him forever. Everyone who

meets him falls in love with him

because he is such a little

charmer. We are so thankful

that we were able to adopt him

and make him part of our

family.

The Morissette Family

Many of us have adopted wonderful “mix

breed” mutts and often wonder what type

of dog they are? We try to pick out the

unique characteristics of different breeds

and see if they fit our pet. Now, with

DNA testing at an affordable cost, you

can find out more about your incredible

mixed breeds. Finding out the genetic

make up of your dog can help you better

understand your dog’s behavior, health

issues and breed traits.

Can you guess what these great

adopted dogs are a mix of?

How well do you know your

furry family Friend?

Letters from the Heart

Hello, all you kind folks at CCHS, it's me, Biebs.

Well, you may remember me as Bieber, the cute little

black lab and escape artist mix who moved out about

eight weeks ago. My pet parents thought I should write

to let you know I'm getting all settled in my forever

home. They also said I should say thanks for taking care

of me until they could get there. And I should probably

tell you some of the things I've been doing since I moved away.

It was a long, lonely ride home and I was missing you guys already, but my new sister, also a black lab, was very

reassuring. She told me they were taking us back where we'd all live together and I'd meet two more sisters. Then

we'd all get fed, have play time and there would be way too much cuddles, including the dreaded "kisses on the pug."

And I haven't always been the perfect boy, like that first night, I pushed the screen out, and the next day I escaped

from my new crate and the day after that, pushed the screen from its frame. So, they fixed everything including the

crate, but I don't use it anymore. I have a different place, they call it a kennel. It's OK, especially with a peanut butter

kong and the bath sheet that make it a tent. But, you know, I really don't get to spend much time there because I have

chores.

My pet parents are nice but as my sister warned me, they're about

half blind, nearly deaf and couldn't smell a rabbit if it was sitting

right in front of them. So, probably no surprise one of things I do

is help her lead the pet poppa back home when he goes for a

walk to the river. There's also those three sisters who need to be

played with and, oh, the tennis balls, this place is crazy with

tennis balls.

I'm going to have to go now, more learning to do. I'm being

taught that just because it looks like a stick, smells and tastes like

stick, doesn't mean it is a stick because it might be firewood. But

before I go, I need to ask a favor, will someone there please give

Miyoko a big lick on the cheek for me? She's a great lady and I'm

lucky to have met her. Thanks again to everyone who made it possible for my pet parents and I to find each other!

Beiber

Hi! My name used to be Toffee. Now it is Isabelle

Rose. Fancy name, huh? My mom saw me online and

fell in love with me before she even met me. She

decided to come to the Bash, fill out my adoption

papers, and take me home! The first few nights I slept

with my mom all night long. Then I got a little more

comfortable and explored at night. I still sleep with my

mom a lot of the time, though. I play with my brothers

and sister pretty much all day. I keep everyone

busy. That's Jasper in the picture with me. He takes

care of me.

I'm so glad that I came to CCHS. They saved me and

my litter mates as well as my fur-mom. Thanks for

taking care of me until my human mom came to get

me. I love my family! Isabelle Rose

PS. My mom calls me Bizzy Girl. She says it's kind of

a pun, but I don't get it.

The Copper Country Humane Society held its sixth annual

Bash on Saturday, July 17th. The funds raised during the event

will be of great help as we provide food, shelter, and medical

care to the homeless pets in our area. We would like to thank the

nearly 400 people who attended the event and contributed their

dollars to the cause. Your generous support helps ensure our

continued success as a “no time limits” shelter emphasizing

sterilization as the key to no more homeless pets.
