To add to Binghamsworries is a bet he has placed for$200,000 (plus his wifes antiqueshop) with C.S. and affects a persons abilitycommunicate and interacth others. Autism is defineda certain set of behaviors anda spectrum disorder thatcts individuals differently andvarying degrees. There is nown single cause of autism, buteased awareness and fundinghelp families today.
March 2012, the Centers forease Control and Preventioned their ADDM autismvalence report. The report
cluded that the prevalenceautism had risen to 1 in every

ow the signs: early identificationchange lives. Autism is
atable. Children do not
outgrow autism, but studiesshow that early diagnosis andintervention lead to significantlyimproved outcomes.
Here are some signs to look for in
the children in your life:
Lack of or delay in spokenlanguage
Repetitive use of language and/or motor mannerisms (e.g.,hand-flapping, twirling objects)
Little or no eye contact
Lack of interest in peerrelationships
Lack of spontaneous or make-believe play
Persistent fixation on parts ofobjects
The characteristic behaviors ofautism spectrum disorder may ormay not be apparent in infancy (18to 24 months), but usually becomeobvious during early childhood (24months to 6 years).
As part of a well-baby/child visit, your childs doctor should performa developmental screening, asking specific questions about
your babys progress. The NationalInstitute of Child Health andHuman Development (NICHD) listsfive behaviors that warrant furtherevaluation:
Does not babble or coo by 12months
Does not gesture (point, wave, grasp) by 12 months
Does not say single words by 16months
Does not say two-word phraseson his or her own by 24 months
Has any loss of any language orsocial skill at any age
Any of these five red flags doesnot mean your child has autism. But because the symptoms ofthe disorder vary so much, achild showing these behaviorsshould have further evaluationsby a multidisciplinary team. Thisteam may include a neurologist, psychologist, developmental
pediatrician, speech / languagetherapist, learning consultantor many other professionalsknowledgeable about autism.
Aspergers Disorder was addedto the American PsychiatricAssociations Diagnostic andStatistical Manual of MentalDisorders (DSM-IV) in 1994 as aseparate disorder from autism. However, there are still manyprofessionals who considerAspergers Disorder a less severeform of autism. In 2013, the DSM-5 replaced autism, AspergersDisorder, and other pervasivedevelopmental disorders withthe umbrella diagnosis of autism
spectrum disorder.
What distinguishes AspergersDisorder from autism are the less
severe symptoms and theof language delays. ChildAspergers Disorder maymildly affected and frequegood language and cognitTo the untrained observewith Aspergers Disorderseem like a normal child differently.

youre like many travelers, get a little nervous whenr airplane goes through
me turbulence. If youre likeot of investors, you may getmewhat jumpy when the
ncial markets are volatile.flight turbulence probably
t as scary as it seems, andsame may be true for market
atility if you know how topond. Lets look at some
itive responses to marketvements:
nt overreact to turbulence.
Turbulence happens on mostflights, but passengers are wellaware that they cant bail out at30,000 feet, so they generallydont panic. As an investor, you also need to avoid panickybehavior by not taking a time outfrom investing. Over a period ofdecades, if you were to miss justa handful of the markets best-performing days, your returnscould be dramatically reduced,
and the best days often followsome of the worst. So if yourenot invested in the market, youcould miss out on the beginning
of a new rally, which is typicallywhen the biggest gains occur.
Balance your cargo. Theground crew properly positionsan airplanes cargo to maintainthe planes center of gravityand reduce the effects of
turbulence. When you invest, you also need to achievebalance by owning a varietyof vehicles, including stocks, bonds, government securities, and certificates of deposit.
Youll want your investment mixto reflect your risk tolerance, goals, and time horizon. Whilethis type of diversification cantguarantee profits or protectagainst loss, it can reduce the
effects of turbulence (thatis, market volatility) on yourportfolio. Over time, yourcargo, your investments, mayshift, becoming too heavy instocks or bonds relative to yourobjectives. Consequently, youllneed to periodically rebalanceyour portfolio to ensure itsmeeting your needs.
Match your transportationmethod with your goals. If you
are flying from New York to LosAngeles, you may experiencedelays or some changes in theflight plan but your goalis still to reach Los Angelesas quickly and efficiently aspossible. Consequently, youwouldnt scrap the idea of flyingand head to the West Coast onfoot.
When you invest, you will alsoencounter events, such as

Maintain perspectivyour flight path. youve flown, youve pobserved (perhaps witenvy) some of yourpassengers sleeping

only reason that I watch thear Awards is to see how somehe older stars have aged. Theinning of the Oscar TV coverage
udes all the big stars walkingwn the red carpet to have their
ures taken by the press, andme are interviewed. One of my
time favorite Hollywood starsill Murray. He is still funny andmake me laugh with just a look,he did look on the older sideyear (which he is). I remember
me years ago when Bill came toarea for a visit. I also started
king about the movie peopleo have lived in our county ore stayed here for a few years
ore moving on.
m all the research that I havee over the years, I can easily saycounty has had kings, queens,
ga stars, world class athletes, many other famous people
me to our county and either livee or visit for a period of time. Theple that I am referring to werests of one of the most famousdents of San Luis Obispo County, iam R. Hearst. Mr. Hearst wasof the worlds richest men and
ous people came to visit him atranch, more popularly known asrst Castle. Not only did famousple like Clark Gable, Charlieplin, or Winston Churchill stayhe Castle, but many also stayedan Luis Obispo before they wereen to the Castle by taxi. Errol
Flynn, Greta Garbo, Harpo Marx, and Charles Lindbergh were a fewof the more famous people whohave stayed in our area for a while.
Stars of the past are the first thingsthat enter an old researchers mindlike mine. I have also met a fewfamous people over the years. Ithink one of the most famouscurrent stars from our county isZac Efron, a Disney star who livedin Arroyo Grande. Another famousperson who lives in the AG area isJon Anderson of the rock group Yes.Im not sure if I would recognizehim if I walked past him on GrandAvenue, but I would enjoy saying
howdy to him. I used to listen toYes all the time years ago. I alsohear that the Hulk, Lou Ferrigno, lives in the area. Arroyo Grande islike Hollywood North with all thestars walking around town.
Weve also had world class athletesstay in our county. One of my all-time favorite big league pitchersSandy Kofax of the Los AngelesDodgers lived in the North Countyfor years. I got to meet him at agolf tournament, and it was an
opportunity that I will never forget.I have also met Joe DiMaggio, butmeeting Sandy was a real dreamcome true. I think one of thebiggest sports figures who madeSan Luis Obispo his home for a fewyears was John Madden, of footballfame. Harrys Bar in Pismo used to
use John Maddens name in theirradio commercials.
Professional golfer Loren Robertswas actually born in San Luis Obispoand continues to be a part of ourcommunity. Horace Grant was aprofessional basketball player andhas made our county his home. I
know several people who havemet him and say hes a very niceguy. Ozzie Smith is a Hall of Famebaseball player who went to CalPoly and would come back to thearea to help out his alma mater. One of the coolest professionalathletes that lived in our area wasChuck Liddell, who was an UltimateFighting Champion. I would see himwalking down Higuera Street andwould always be surprised by hisheight.
One of the worlds most well-known athletes who ever lived inour area was my mothers favorite,Jack LaLanne. As Morro Bays mostfamous resident, Jack would ofteneat at Dorns Restaurant. Thatswhere I met him for the first time, and noticed that everyone in the
restaurant loved Jack andthem. His wife was wand just as colorful as JaLaLanne was a true mohistorical figure, and the firsuperhero. When I was teMorro Elementary in the students parent that woJack had him sign an 8 x
