CCD 2017-2018 CALENDAR Parents, attached is the WHOLE 2017-2018 CCD School year calendar with EVERYTHING you need to

know. I urge you to PLEASE read it, observe it, hang it in your kitchen, take pictures of it, etc. Every year I

am asked for information that is already given to you. Save IMPORTANT dates on your phone. It will only

take about 5 minutes. There is no reason for your child to miss anything, you are getting it WAY in ad-

vance! If after reading it and IF you have any additional questions, I will be happy to have a talk with you.

This year is the year of FAMILY and COMMUNITY. Please make it a MUST to attend ALL CHURCH

EVENTS and FUNRAISERS. Saint Bernard is ALWAYS in need of your help. We are not a “rich” Parish

and we get a lot of families that are in need right outside of our own back yard. We, as Catholics are called

to help.

As always, this year ALL the students will receive their boxes with envelopes for Sunday Mass. This is like

their attendance. If you still have envelopes left from last year, toss them out because this year your child

will have a new envelope number assigned to them. The envelopes will be distributed on October 1st. This

year it will be strictly enforced that students will only be allowed to miss 3 classes. We have a short year

with a lot of days off.

Your help is also needed in the hallways during CCD hours. Teachers need assistance in directing the kids

to the bathroom and having them safely back in their classes.

Please note that the following symbols are for those students in a 2nd year Sacramental Preparation Class

only and certain requirements throughout the year are expected and HAVE

been marked in the calendar.

Welcome to the 2017-2018 CCD school

year! We are delighted to have your

family in our CCD Program and faith

formation! Please remember to always

have the students on time by 10:30am

every Sunday that classes are scheduled.

The students will attend Mass with their

class and all parents will need to pick

them up after the Mass (1pm). Please

check our website regularly for sched-

uled events, documents, forms, etc.

Because classes are only an hour and a

half long and we have a certain amount

of days off, students will only be al-

lowed to have 3 absences during the

whole school year. Every student will

get a box of envelopes for the Sunday

collection and this will be considered

their Mass attendance. If you have any

other. We will be having a Pizza party for all to attend. The cost is just $5 per person

which will include music/dancing, two slices of pizza, salad, rolls and a drink! Tickets

must be purchased in advance. We hope to see you there for some fun! RESPECT LIFE MONTH

$10 per person (including the students)

Includes: Unlimited Pasta dishes, rolls,

Christmas Toy Drive

All students are required to bring a toy

for our annual toy drive to assist fami-

lies in need. The deadline will be on

December 10th. Please buy a nice toy

that a child would love! No dollar tree

toys. I know we all have our financial

means on spending, but it’s Christmas

and there are many less fortunate chil-

dren within our community and it will

mean a lot for them to receive a toy

they would love. Have YOUR child

pick the toy out as if it were for them!

If they are a 14 year old girl, please

get a 14 year old item for another

child and make sure they themselves

would enjoy it. If you have an 8 year

boy, same concept! If you are able to

buy more than one item we would

appreciate it so much. Last year we

did not have enough baby toys, so if a

baby toy can be your “extra” that

would help us out dearly!

Night Out!

If you need a Saturday to yourself, than take advantage of our date night out. Drop of your children on November

11th and let us entertain them while you enjoy sometime to yourself! The cost is $25 per child and it will include

dinner, games, movies and much more! Let your neighbors and other family members know.

THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE: Please bring canned goods to stock-up for St. Vincent De Paul’s

Thanksgiving food drive. A list will be given on the items needed! Deadline is 11/19th.

CONFIRMATION STUDENTS!

As you already know, several things are

needed for Confirmation. These assign-

ments need to be submitted by the due

dates, NO EXEPTIONS! If your child

misses the due date they will need to

repeat the following year, so please plan

accordingly and submit on the date OR

EARLIER! Mr. Francisco Martinez will

not be the one revising all these docu-

ments. I personally make sure every-

thing is needed and accurate. I read

EVERY Saint Report and check for

plagiarism. If your child copies from the

internet, trust me that I will know and

will return the Report. I have a software

that checks for these things. Sit down

with your child and go over each docu-

ment! I cannot stress that enough. As for

community service, remember that 25

hours are needed. 5 hours could be done

outside of church and 20 hours MUST

be for our Parish. By March 4th all

hours must be completed!

We are putting together a care package

for the homeless around our neighbor-

hood! We need you help:

Pre-K & Kinder = Gallon Ziplocs

1st - 3rd Grades = Travel size shampoo

and deodorants

4th-6th Grades = Travel size toothpaste

and toothbrushes

All other Grades = Soft Granola Bars

On April 29th is our last day of CCD!

Please join us with ALL your friends

and family to a potluck style party after

the noon Mass! We will have music and

dancing for the kids while we enjoy a

hot lunch provided by all of you.

Sign in sheet for items needed can be

found at my office! We will provide

drinks and dessert!

Don’t forget to thank your teachers for

their time and talent in volunteering in

our faith formation program! Without

them nothing would be possible!

CONFIRMATION ATTIRE:

Boys = Black suit, black dress pants,

white dress shirt, black dress shoes and a

red tie that needs to be purchased at the

gift shop so they all coordinate.

Girls = All white dress (knee

length) and black dress shoes.

tion sash for $5 for the upcoming Confirmation Ceremony. Last

day to purchase these will be 4/22 or at the rehearsal on 4/24th.

Boys = White dress shirt, white dress

pants, white shoes and white tie. A

white suit jacket or white sash is not

required but recommended.

Girls = White dress (knee length),

white shoes and a white veil. The fol-

lowing is not necessary but can also be

worn: White stockings or white gloves.

***You may order Communion suits,

dresses and shoes online through

Amazon. Please do not wait until the

last minute. I recommend you do this

on the first week of April in case you

need to make an exchange. Burlington

factory has them around the month of

March and April for the Easter season.

*** Don’t forget that ALL students

need to buy a commemorative Holy

Communion kit from our gift shop to

have it blessed on that day.
